the initial weapons, from what I've used, really aren't that bad. You do have to be very mindful of bullet spread since the engagement ranges can be fairly long depending on where you're fighting. The weapons themselves almost seem to have been bumped up in lethality a bit, but accurate/burst fire is the key unless the enemy is in your face (no AEK, M16A3, etc. in this demo). Overall, I believe the balance between the weapons has been pretty well done so far. We'll see how things go at release.
I tried some yesterday mostly playing engineer (you have the beginning smg with laser sight) and usually I just hipfired towards anyone. I even killed a prone guy while strafing and full-auto hipfiring like 20-30 meters away. You can ADS at the same time as firing even, so as far as I've understood regard it as CoD with the shooting. Shoot quickly and use a lot of bullets. It's very, very far from Bad company 2 shooting.
This might of course be a bit different with guns that have more recoil, but I have a nagging feeling that smgs and ARs will quickly become the standard, as they are in CoD and for good reason. Lots of accurate bullets is powerful, especially now that ARs can snipe you from quite far away.
Carbines will be very good at the majority of encounters but will lack the personality and specialization of the kit-specific weapons.
They'll be a bit better at close range than assault rifles but be ineffective at longer distances.
They'll be better than PDWs at medium ranges but will lack their close-range utility (in the form of either raw damage output, magazine size, or reload speed).
They'll obviously not have the advantages that an LMG gives in the form of massive magazines and overwhelming firepower, but they will be easier to use and much more mobile.
They'll also be infinitely better than bolt-actions and to an extent DMRs in every way because lolrecon.
Shotguns aren't really comparable. Nothing room-clears like a semi-auto shotgun, so putting the two up against another is a situational thing.
I haven't played a Battlefield game since BF2, which incidentally I played exclusively with the PA folk. So upon downloading the beta and being surprised how well it works on my machine, I realized to my horror how bad I am at it. I can't get kills. I get the exact opposite of what Vic_Hazzard experiences, and unless I stop, crouch and aim, I get pulverized. And the other party is usually much quicker to spot me, so my firefights are quite one sided. I am good at getting points in other ways, but that doesn't help with weapon unlocks.
And playing with PUGs is horrible.
So I have to man up, and practice. And maybe play with some PA folk again. 8->

Haha, yeah it's probably that I pretty much won't touch a battlefield game unless I have two friends with me. The game becomes infinitely easier when you have basic communication and group movement (stuff so basic like "We're fighting around B now"). And it's not like aiming doesn't work! Aiming probably works better, it's just that the game runs like shit on my old computer so spraying is pretty much my only tactic in "CQC"*, I was just surprised it worked so well. Recoil is not like the bad company days where it mattered a lot. You can totally hose people in this game, at least with the smg with laser sight. I will say that the SMG can't do shit at long range though, but ARs seems to be able to snipe at a regular basis.
*CoDesque CQC, like, you can hose people at 20m. Hold that M1 down, start aiming down sight while firing and hose that dude almost regardless of circumstance unless it's long range. It's what me and my mate found with our first experiences with BF4 anyway.
Edit: Learn from the video above, after the 3 minute mark he fires 7 to 12 round bursts. You could barely see the recoil. Use dem bullets!

I finally got the hang of the Airburst. I'm now wrecking Recon face in Domination. It's quite enjoyable, mainly because the game is much more stable on that gametype.

Domination is much better than I originally assumed, but we've only seen it on one map.

Holy FUCK the T88
Ran up a side ladder on Point C Building, dropped bipod and sowed terror among the ten or so guys camping the elevator.
Got something very similar for my 760. I assume the drivers aren't quite ready for prime time yet.
i fixed that one by running the dirextx redistribute thing in the bf4 installer directory.
now i just get the same PB shit as sark
I had the near exact same problem every time I tried to update any setting in the options menu.
It fixed when the Nvidia GeForce Experience program downloaded the latest game optimization drivers...BF4 Beta then was recognized as being installed on my rig. I clicked the optimize button, and voila, the error crash went away.
Could anyone explain what field upgrades are and why they seem to be lost ever so often?
Also, I hope they fix the binding possibilities for the final release. right now I can't press "j" in combination with anything else without coming to a halt. Which is a bit problematic as "j" is my back button :rotate:
Other bind bugs include that "e" is always exit vehicle even though I bound it to space and "b" will bring up a bug report and not my minimap.

Rather than having to coordinate squad perks, you basically get a series of perks that proc as you fill a bar by doing squad-friendly actions. I believe it resets if your squad suffers a full squad wipe.
I had this problem, and there seem to be a lot of causes (google Battlefield 4 directx error). In addition to the fixes mentioned a bit earlier in the thread, here's what worked for me. Note that, in my case, I'd start to join a server, get to the loading screen, and it would sit there for a very long time, and if I minimized, then the error would pop up. Anyway, I found that, if I hit alt+enter to put BF4 into windowed mode, the error would pop up, and the game would close like normal. But then I could join a server again, and BF4 would still be in windowed mode, and it would work fine. Once I loaded into the server, alt+enter again to make it full screen, and I was good to go. Note that I could minimize as much as I wanted from this point, but before you quit the game, be sure to put it back in windowed mode or you'll have to do the whole process over again.
Is it just me or are the NVIDIA beta drivers awful? Upgraded to them after hearing DICE recommend it over and over and now my performance is noticeably worse.

I believe only progress towards the next perk resets on squad wipe. So if you're two levels in and halfway towards three, you won't lose your first two perks if the squad wipes.

You are not wrong. Roll back to 320.49, it's stable and the framerate is good. Just better all round.

Heh, that's what I was using initially and I just tried rolling back to 273.23 and there was still a ton of stuttering. Thanks for the heads up.

Seconded. Those beta drivers introduced the old driver response timeout bug again for me. Nivdia's WHQL drivers are top notch, but the last few beta releases I have tried started fucking things up. I might give them another try when I do a fresh install on the new SSD.
I need a new graphics card to play the game smoothly. It sucks having a choppy framerate while my enemies shoot at me while I struggle to aim with 20 fps.
So I'm running two monitors, and my mouse cursor won't stay locked to my primary monitor. This causes me to frequently click off screen and cause BF4 to minimize. This just started this morning. Yesterday, it was working fine. Anyone else having this problem?

Maybe try running bf4 in full screen mode so it locks your mouse to that monitor?
You can do it really quickly with the alt_Enter command.
I keep getting the time out things where the blue banner at the bottom of the battlelog goes red \/\/\
also didn't the old battlelog remember how you ordered the server list (i.e. by shortest ping)

So here's where I get stuck now.
I join a game
I get the loading screen. It does its thing then the loading changes to "Saving" and the screen fades to black. Then it crashes with "Game Disconnected. Something went wrong" on the red toolbar that appears at the bottom of Battlelog.

I had that happen when I really started messing with the BF4 directory while trying to get PB fixed. Maybe try checking the installation from Origin?

Yeah, I'm running full screen. Still has that issue. Hopefully it's just a beta quirk to be ironed out.
Hmm, was trying to get into this today, and the beta just crashes every time I load into a game. No specifics, just a Windows message stating "Battlefield 4 has stopped responding..." Anyone else run into this with suggestions? I'd love to give this a try, but the time I'm willing to spend troubleshooting beta releases is pretty limited.
Oh hey guys. You think you're all safe and sound huddled up behind the elevator above the Arcade. Let me just reach out and touch all of you without even seeing you.

There was me thinking I'd get to scratch some games off my backlog. Nope.
