Yeah and they have deals fairly often, in April it was 15 months for 50 bucks.
The best part about Plus is if you want to shell out another 50 bucks and create a EU account they often get completely different games as the US. You can download the free games offered to EU on your console using your EU PSN account and still play those games with ANY account on the system.
Wasn't PS+ $5 or did I miss some clarification or announcement?
Edit $50 for a year? That's not too bad at all!
Under $5 I think. I believe someone mentioned it's actually $4. Not 100% on that though.
It gets confusing as PSN subscriptions are sometimes discounted. Like during christmas last year it went from 89.99 nzd to 70nzd for 12 month sub. As I had just purchased a vita and saw Gravity Rush on PSN+ I decided in for a penny in for a pound.

I skipped a bunch of pages, but I'm assuming there's some crow that's being eaten for people who said it would be hundreds more than the XBox One.
Anyway, things look pretty great for Sony. Yes, it will suck to have to pay for online, the free service was nice. But, simply not having the thing always online and always staring at you is a vast improvement over whatever the hell Microsoft was thinking there. The used game thing on the Microsoft side is also dumb, but wouldn't have been a deal killer. Having an always on camera and mic are though.
Looks like I'll stick with Sony. Too bad. I was open to an XBox for this gen, but with what they're offering — even with their exclusives — it's not worth the price or the privacy invasion.
PS4 looks like what I'm interested in for a game console. The 360 seems to be full of features I don't need, such as kinect and plugging into your cable and replacing your cable box.
Even though the recording/twitch.tv is superior, I just find the simplicity and 100$ saving more of a boon than anything else.
Also right out of the gate, PS4 has started with the priority if not, JRPGs exclusivity starting with the launch games.

I eventually bought both systems last gen, getting the x360 first (for Mass Effect as this was prior to its PC announcement) and a PS3 later on. I use the PS3 far more than the x360. This gen, I have a pre-order for the PS4 in with Amazon. The XBOne, I'll wait to see if they back down from any of these initial gaffs before I consider getting one.

Yeah, I didn't buy a PS3 (on two separate occasions) just for TLG, but it was a bullet point on the list of reasons I bought one. I can only hope that by the next E3 or two Sony announces a release for the game on PS4.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
As someone who never owned a PS3 and hence never played any of the Killzones...
Looking at the launch lineup and I'm considering it, but based on the previous ones, will it just be a generic manshoot with pretty graphics, or is there anything unique that makes it stand out?

Pretty much. I mean, I'm not sure what one expects from a FPS to be honest. I will say the MP is spectacular - if you're into that sort of thing.

Killzone is just Call of Duty. Don't beat around the bush on this. It's a linear corridor shooter with set pieces and a lot of guns.
It's unique selling point is the graphics, which are, as you can see, staggering at times. It's a showcase for the system spec. It will immediately make you feel satisfied with your new console purchase, because the visuals are just so far ahead of what you have right now.

The MP in Killzone 2 was spectacular. It fell off bad after that.
Hopefully Shadowfall returns to those glory days, in terms of MP.
If you're asking for something innovative or a gimmick over other shooters then no, Killzone doesn't have that. But Killzone 2 at least doesn't play like any other fps I've come across. It's very meaty and has a weight to it that other such games don't. The multiplayer also had this fun little thing where you would play all game modes in a cycle on a map. It wasn't just TDM for an hour then play Capture the Flag if you feel like it. It was deathmatch -> Capture the Flag -> Assassination all in the same round. I thought it was a lot of fun and a good way to keep things feeling fresh even during a single session of play.
No idea about Killzone 3 though. Didn't play that.
Oh, one more thing. Killzone 2 at least has the single worst cast of characters I've come across in a video game. I've never hated an NPC more than I hated that Rico guy.
I know I'm way behind here, but....PS4 won't be able to play PS3 games, right?
Because as much as I love Sony, love what they're saying, and hate hate hate with a fiery passion everything Microsoft has done for the last 10 years or so....I still have PS3 games to play and if the PS4 can't play them, I won't buy one. At least not for a while. I'd preorder one right goddamn now just to spite MS if it had BC, but as it stands now I just have to publicly voice my general support of them and wait.
Way to go, Sony! You guys rule! You totally nailed like 8 out of the 10 things I was worried about.
edit: I found the flawed first Killzone to be my favorite, solely for local multiplayer. My friends and I spent an obscene amount of time playing that together in the days before Ubiquitous Internet and online play.

BC will be handled via Gaika streaming. No word on how you will unlock your existing PS3 library, or if it requires new purchases. If you're looking for "Put disc in drive, play PS3" game you won't find that...and you likely won't ever see that again on any console ever. Even the WiiU requires Nintendo to jump through untold technical hoops to make it work, and it's the same basic hardware....let alone something like the PS3 which is a completely alien architecture that can't be easily emulated in an x86 environment.
I honestly had no idea there were still people who complain about paid online. I thought that particular viewpoint went extinct around 2004. That's honestly not an argument I've heard in the real world (as opposed to an online forum) in about ten years. Is it an age gap thing? College-age gamers with limited funds? I'm probably a bit older than most game forum readers (mid 30's), and honestly, $50 a year is almost literally nothing to me (and my salary is not large). Especially since I've always paid for XBL Gold through discounted 12-month cards, I only paid about $35 per year to get my subscription covered up through like 2015. I assume I'll be able to do something similar with PS+. In fact, PS+ looks like an even better deal to me, so sure, I'll happily throw them a few bucks a year even though I only play the occasional co-op or racing game online (too old, don't have the time for competitive multi). Anyway, I was just surprised to read that was actually still a thing and found myself curious about the people behind the viewpoint. I was shocked to see anything other than giddiness over Sony's announcements last night. I think for most older gamers, at least, the mention of PS+ being required for online play barely earned a shrug of the shoulders. I started putting money away earlier this year knowing that next gen was coming, and plunked down a fully-paid-off preorder for the PS4 during my lunch break today. For reference, I was primarily an Xbox gamer the last two gens, didn't get a PS2 until 2005 nor a PS3 until 2009. If someone like me was actually happy to throw my money at Sony this go-round, I can only hope that others are too and that the Xbox One's use policies are seen as the reason for it's inability to repeat the 360's success. Assuming it does get trounced, of course.
Edit: re-reading this I hope it doesn't come across like I'm trying to offend. I just wanted to express my surprise at some of the reactions I'm seeing on the internet today. Clearly I live in a different world than some of my gaming brethren.

Oh shit, you know what game I totally forgot about after all the bombshells? The Order. That trailer was SICK.
Watching that trailer was the first moment I realized I'd probably be pre-ordering a PS4. I was all like "Steampunk vs Werewolves? I gotta get me some of that!"
Do you guys think It's worth picking up a used PS3 to last until the PS4 releases?
Are there enough games releasing this year? I've had a PS3 before but I got rid of it so I could get the Wii U, so it's not like I missed a whole bunch this generation.

I think it will be hard to shift the code over to a completely different architecture. But surely their first party flagship was working on Ps4 content years ago. They'd be the first to know anything.
Im really only in for a handful of titles between now and the PS4 launch. The Last of Us, Batman:Arkham Origins, GTA V and maybe the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and FF X remasters and Im done with this gen.
With the price known now, Im in save mode from here on out. I may only get TLOU and GTAV and just save for the new system games.

Not to shit on the parade, but how is that response going to be when EA announces project sixty dollar, and sony goes "yeah we said we wouldn't do it..."
I'll do like I did with Project Ten Dollar and not buy EA games.
It's just a brief example though, when every company that does it on the xbox does it on the PS4, are you still in a winter wonderland of drm freeness? I just think some clarification is in order.
Yeah I know right how do we know Sony does not sacrifice young boys and girls in order to provide life force for their consoles. How many hookers have been buried in building foundations to cement their power.
We need some clarification/imma just asking questions.
This isn't wild fucking speculation.
They are on record saying used games were up to publishers, after their initial reveal. But lets give them a standing ovation at a press conference for saying the same thing as MS, only while being vague.
We really need a follow up with publishers on if there going to do "project $X" on ps4, and if theyill need always on in their games(fair enough, it will depend on the game for online req).
implying Schrodinger DRM schemes is both disingenuous and odious.
Well, it's both, but only if you never open the case and look at the EULA.
