Well, we have sales numbers. And I said it was a longshot. Just was when we thought we were getting a lot more cuts, to the point where Smash Bros having just one FE representative would make sense. Which kinda fell apart as a guess when Toon Link showed. (And good thing, too. Marth looks pretty cool.)
As for knowing how Japan thinks about the games? We're in the damn information age. Finding out about stuff like that's a couple clicks away.
Marth had just two games in a row, one Japan only.
They sold poorly enough that Awakening was almost the last Fire Emblem.
Meanwhile, Awakening has sold more than any other game in the series. Target was 250K, and Awakening's sold more than four times that. One game turnaround from reminiscing about glory days to being smack in the middle of them.
As for popularity, was working off the official polls. Chrom and the other lord on the Awakening boxart are really, really popular.

Mother 3 is a great game, but Ness (like Marth) is sort of the face of the franchise, and an original Smasher. If we need two Mother reps, they should add someone that isn't so similar to Ness. Paula or Jeff preferably.
He would be like the Batman of the game with all of his moves gadget based, only instead of moves based around grapnels and baterangs, his moves would be based around bottlerockets and bazookas.

I think the problem is nobody is in a position to predict how anything will be treated in smash haha!
Loving the new marth! He looks more manly and most of the characters look a lot better being more colorful than brawl. Like that they based his default look of of that one alt color in brawl. It's also amazing how much better his contrasting brown boots look lol.
Man, those 3DS screens are really nice. Wonder if it's going to be like pokemon, where 3D doesn't work in certain situations due to the hardware melting.
A worthy trade for how nice that game looks though, and i'd take the same one here.
