It's definitely something an engineer would do and on higher difficulty apparently it's the only way to find weapons
So they let you buy the materials on any difficulty and completely defeat the purpose of the system they set up

Plasma cutter is is only vertical now,

Yeah the flipping was the best part of the plasma cutter.
But still, it was dumb how many people used it for the entire game, even though there were so many way more awesome weapons, and I welcome nerfs.
Also a Nerf plasma cutter would be pretty cool.

Just like the basic pistol in RE4 it's the best gun.

Red 9 with stock is the best Pistol/gun in RE4.
tbough unlike Dead space RE4 has weapon balance so you generally have a variety of guns you want to use instead of 2-3 superior ones
If it was by design then why were there other weapons?
I mean the option to play like that is there by design, which is fine, but the fact that so many people played like that on their first run and not on a challenge run or whatever was dumb.

One shots hell knights on normal difficulty at extreme close range.
Then clack chunk chunk clack.
So satisfying.
My problem with Dead Space 1 I seem to be having is it's too creepy. I am bad at creepy. Like Jump Scares I can handle but creepy is just too much.
achievement for only using the cutter + the limited resources which forced you to pick between ammo/health/etc and weapon upgrades, which made a compelling case for maxing out the cutter
Because I am unemployed and it is also cold outside.

but they made it so effective that it's essentially a swiss army knife and other guns are for more specific purposes
