What really helps Abby, I think, is all the "prep" of her banter with the judges. It puts the judges into the mindset of your work, which in Abby's case is kind of this ridiculous situation humor. Couple that with what is obviously a dynamite strip and you're set.
I think if Abby had been shut down, no chatter, though, Mike may have looked at that comic and gone "I don't get it, why does this guy have cats stitched to him?"
Either way, great episode, and I'm sorry to see Tavis go, but I'm glad to have been following him since the show went live (and congrats on his new baby girl!)
I appreciated that they didn't do (or at least show) any of the "10 minutes is how much time you have left until it's 40 minutes left" sort of thing this time around, they were just chatting back and forth.

I imagine it's only really funny the first time a given contestant hears it, and they knew that.

Naw, Mike's smart enough to "get it". I mean, I would have got it and I'm an idiot so Mike would have got it with ease.

Mike has shown at least twice already that he's not smart enough to "get it" when it comes to strange comics that don't fit the norm. I love Abby's work, and I'm glad it resonates with him, but it could just as easily flipped the other way.

Twice? That would be Monica's and the other would be...?
And Monica's was a bit hard to parse, it had some layout problems, but once Mike did parse it he came up with the rollerblading=comics interpretation.
So A) I still think e is smart enough to get strange comics and moreover that wouldn't invalidate the second of Bucho's points: Abby draws really funny comic strips.
It definitely seems as if Abby's comics are resonating really well with what Mike/Jerry are looking for right now, more so than anyone else's to this point, I think. And it looks as if they value that over strictly sticking to the themes, because her comic was only loosely about cars, and previously people have been penalised for that.

I thought Mackenzie's strip was amazing, and was surprised the judges thought it fell flat. That was the other time.
And again, I know Abby draws amazing comics. they are all great. I think her strip stands on it's own, hands down. I'm just saying I think it gets extra effect from spending time with her, which allows you to go "This is totally Abby."
Something that occurred to me about the judging: unless I'm forgetting something, Mike and Jerry have yet to disagree on an elimination. They've had difficult choices, but in the end they always come down on the same side. It makes sense, given the way they work together, but it also removes some of the potential for conflict. I wonder if, in future seasons, they might expand the judging panel to include people with completely different senses of humour.

"As part of our destroy-the-losing-strips shtick, we were gonna have our forum admin Tube here ban you from the show, but we like it too much to do that to you, so here it is."
I hadn't noticed that Tavis's car was a mouse until someone mentioned it here, and from the Hub thread, I finally worked out what Tavis said when he says "a giant cat playing with a [????] car".

We were going to.have our forum admin come in and ban your strip but apparently he took a wrong turn and is in Mexico

I also remember someone in here mentioning if Abby draws "cats", she wins.
And then that happened. Which is creepy and weird, because there must be like 500 ideas in that waste basket.

Both Annie and I laughed really hard at Abby's comic. It was just.. perfect. I knew as soon as she pulled the word 'cats' it was over.
Tavis was really great, though. I know a lot of people said he was boring or whatever, but I thought he was a great addition to the competition. He was the House Dad!

So much.

If Katie doesn't win then she might also go up with Maki since it's been a while since she has had to face the Thunderdome.
I don't know, I'm pretty sure she could have knocked cat theatre out of the park too.

Great banter on all sides this time around:
the look that Mike/Jerry gave each other..
also,

Sorry to see Tavis go but he himself said he was okay with going whenever
I'm sure he got plenty out of the competition and he has a great family to go back to
His presence in the house was great to have for as long as we got it
That said, Abby is a monster, holy christ
I thought that this line was really great:
Guest judges.
Like RuPaul's Drag Race!
(Something like that, but in english, sorry, gotta run.)

It's "Truly Nolen": this.
Godmode probably thought I had lost it for a second.

Why pick just one?
