The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
In a matter of days, we're going to give you your first glimpse into the vision and ambition that's driving the creation of our brave new world. To make room for the resulting chatter, we've launched some official social media channels. There’s a new Destiny page to like on Facebook, a new Destiny feed to follow on Twitter, and a new Destiny page on Google+. And, of course, we've opened a new Destiny forum here on Bungie.net where you can discuss upcoming news.
Bungie.net and our existing Bungie social channels will remain official sources for news about Destiny, Bungie, and anything else that might tickle our fancy. If you've already registered on our forums, liked our Facebook page, and been treating yourself to our sweet Tweets, you’re ready for anything.
"Our sky is filled with unseen signals. Radio-frequency emissions pulse and flit and dance all around us. Yet even a singing patch of sky can be observed, and transformed into a range of frequencies.
Can you hear it? No, not yet. It has not yet arrived. But together we can receive its call.
Imagine combining the observations of thousands across the globe on an object meandering through the heavens. The resulting array would be quite large. Quite powerful. This is your task.
Alone it will not be enough. Coordination and timing is needed. Observations must be made simultaneously.
Your window will be small. Five minutes at most. But windows may be reopened. And the distance between observer pairs will be key.
There will always be limitations in clarity, so the results must be archived for study. Highly technical observers may be required. Detailed frequency analysis is recommended.
Everything that belongs to us will be ours, but only if we create the capacity to receive it."
If it's like Halo, I will be incredibly disappointed. Halo was good for the first two games. Then it wasn't. I don't want another Halo.
Please don't be like Halo.
I'll be extremely surprised if it isn't.
Seeing some of that leaked stuff and the bits you can read of the text, really bummed me out.
I'm sure it'll be a good, and plenty fun game. It just seems like the premise is far larger than what FPS gameplay will allow it to be. The initial leaked stuff made it seem so expansive, if not an MMO, some sort of larger instance based thing.
my two cents: halo is gonna be on everyone's minds going into destiny. bungie has to do something that will please the fans they gained with halo while also striking out and trying something new. it was always going to be a FPS and if you thought differently you are a goose. but they will definitely go to great lengths to make this game it's own thing. they will establish a new lore, develop entirely different enemies, and it'll likely only have a passing resemblance to a halo game. personally i am down for whatever they come up with because they are a company with a pretty great track record. i wouldn't focus too much on the MMO aspect for a few reasons; mainly, they will have a single player campaign. i expect the MMO to be mostly meta-game stuff. large scale battles online will then take an effect on the "world" going on. it wont be one massive map with a billion dudes running around. it'll be smaller scale conflicts that play into something larger. or not and i'm just talking out my ass. who knows.
I would actually like to see a first-person shooter campaign that utilized features similar to what I have read about Dark Souls regarding online interaction. As long as there is no stat-based leveling of any kind, it would be challenging and intense to play the campaign and not know if or when a human player will show up among the enemy forces. Obviously the option to disable that feature would be a must since not everyone would want that.
Didn't RE6 have a system like that, where you could join someone's game as one of the monsters?

If it's this gen of consoles, it has to be 'soon'...and also probably throws the grand scale stuff out the window. That said, that poster lists "always connected", and that sort of gives me a Dark Souls/RE6 vibe. I'm intrigued, but keeping my hype'o'meter at a low setting for now. I'm sure it'll be good, but I've kind of got that hmmm face about how it's redefining stuff...but who knows.
Didn't Destiny's release schedule get leaked out as a side-effect of the Activison lawsuit with the former Infinity Ward guys? They're doing a new game every other year and an expansion in the in-between years.
yeah my guess is the LE for these will include a token for the expansion. also, if this sells well, between trilogies they can release a seperate game of their choice.
if you haven't read the details from the activision leak, you should. it has some good info.

Not excited about it being some sort of MMO .
But I have faith in Bungie, so we'll see!
I'm thinking something like PS3's MAG, but less sucky

I mean of course you got FF11/13 but that's pretty much the only one and even then it has had its problems.
I think we are on to something folks.
oh, the irony
I hope it is not Borderlands 2 farming.

But now it's back to being a not-Halo FPS.
I'd love to be wrong. Surprise me Bungie.
