seriously though, the spider webs were one of the things that pissed me off the most in this game.
Yeah, I found Spearhead to be the toughest mission in the game on Inferno, because you had to hit the spider mound immediately or it was over. Hitting the spider mound immediately when you're getting locked in place by spinneret spam is easier said than done, but I finally managed it.

The other day I saw this great NicoNicoDouga (Japanese Youtube) video involving EDF2017. It was a parody of the opening of the 80s anime SPT Layzner (parodied as EDF Velgalta), and included brief bits of video and audio from each mission in the game as "Episode previews" of the full "season".
Kind of cheesy and stupid, but amusing.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
If things don't work out between you two, would you mind sending her number to a friend of mine? He could use a long-term Storm 2 commitment.

Was at best buy and saw this game for 10 bucks...Was pretty high and had a friend with me, we both decided it was going to be an awesome day. Picked it up and went home to find my TV had somehow been knocked over. It looked fine but when I turned it on the LCD display was cracked.
*Sigh* Haven't had a chance to play it yet

And what is the moral of this story?
Also Jesus I still can't update the thread title, all my other threads are editable, but there seems to be a bug/glitch in this one. Can an admin or something edit the title for me to "Earth Defense Force 2017: Happy Birthday Thread, 2+ Years!"?

Lent this to a friend who owns a 360 (as I still don't, sadly) and shes having a blast with it. Hopefully she'll be over this weekend for some... "co-op action"
I picked up Global Defence Force for a couple of quid and holy shit people weren't lying when they said it was superior to the 2017 in every way.
Playing as the Pale Wing is fun as hell, although it does mean doing ever mission twice to get all the medals.
I was not aware that it's actually a sequel, set in 2019 when the Ravagers Gigantors re-emerge from the earths core.
The localization differences are pretty strange, my favorite so far being the' Sky Turtle' missile launcher. I'm guessing the Game was called Global defence force due to legal reasons as it's still called the EDF in game.
The only thing I miss is the voice overs. The graphics aren't too much of a step back either, and the destructable scenery actually looks better. Glass shatters and buildings fall over sideways. The locations are more varied too, sniping giant ants off of Big Ben is pretty cool and the night stages are suprisingly nice looking.
TL,DR: If you like EDF, have a PS2 and live in europe there is no reason not to buy GDF.
Sorry for double posting, but I love this game a whole lot so I'm basically never going to shut up about it.
this game has a lot of levels, and a ton of enemy types. Last mission I played Pitted me against 4 types of saucer at once, the standard purple ones, red elite versions, weapon-reflecting mirror saucers and rugby-ball shaped ones with poweful weapons. There's been a few missions that are practically identical to missions in EDF 2017, the most obvious being the 4 back-to-back underground missions culminating with an attack on the nest.
After playing GDF I was a pretty confused about which game was released first, what with the PS2 game referencing events in the 360 game dispite being released years earlier (in japan at least) and after a little research it turns out that there's more than 2 Earth Defense Force games.
There's four.
The first was released in europe as 'Monster Attack' on the PS2.
The second is Global Defense force, a direct sequel with a bunch of extra shit and is awesome.
The third is (bizarely enough) Global defense force: Tactics, a top-down strategy game set in the EDF univrese.
The fourth is good ol' EDF 2017 for the 360 which is a remake of Monster Attack.
Now I'm going to have to hunt down Monster Attack to see just how different it is from the remake.

Do not, under any imaginable circumstances, buy or even LOOK at this game. It's horrible and unplayable in every conceivable way. I had to play 2017 immediately afterward to remind myself whats awesome about the series
I just bought the title this week as part of the 3 for 2 sale at Gamestop.
There's something about the giant ants that creeps me the fuck out, specially when they're climbing buildings. I need to carry a building destroyed all the time because of it.

I bought this a well in the 3 for 2 sale as well (for $12.99) and this game is so much fun. Certainly not the most polished game, but it has something that a lot of games now lack: fun.

A new game by the EDF chaps is coming out for the Wii. More of an anime/medieval setting, though. Also, probably not going to get out of Japan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNPqUlEJLuI

No good can come of this.
You can strike me off that list as significant. Unless I have a reputation I'm not aware of.
Yeah I'd like him to quantify his post, lest I be put in the same boat with the rest of you.. freaks. 8-)
What if I made out with the disc?
*moans loudly* oh yeah shoot your silky webs all over me...

Arachnophobia for the win!
Unfortunately for us all.
I thought they weren't as creepy
In any case, the last few levels fixed that. I'd make anyone with arachnophobia play this game.

Sadly, yes. But it has been released in PAL and NSTC regions so you should still be ok
