Heh, I think I have the same one :Rotate:

However, each 'step' is taking less than half the time for this one, so it hopefully will only take double the last one hehe.

Also, this app makes a great test to see if you OC'ing is stable, since it will peg your CPU at 100% for however long you run it.

To those of you out there concerned about their PS3s overheating, I've been running mine almost non-stop for about four days now.

I pulled a 26 hour shift starting Sunday morning at 7 am, came home, went to sleep, came back on duty at 5 AM Tuesday and will be working until 9 AM tomorrow. All I've done is work and sleep for the past few days, so it's been running non-stop. I logged a few hours in on Resistance, and a few more on Oblivion Monday afternoon/evening, and other than that it's been a-folding. I think I installed the program and started running it Saturday evening, so the PS3 has been on non-stop since then.

    2 x1900s? Zoinks :)

Well, we're over 35000 for score, so I'm going to do a draw tonight. I've sent out our first and third prizes, I'm still waiting on Charpunk to drop me a line and let me know what he wants :)

I would also like to celebrate the fact that we've broken into the Top 10% of Teams!

    Congratulations Folks! :)

My PS3 has been running solidly since the update as well. I even had friends over both days of the weekend and we gamed on it all day both days and it's still running well! Plus, I'm pretty sure that the PS3, like the 360, has a heat monitor inside that will shut the machine down in the event that it gets too hot.

    Woah.

Supposedly the GPU is the fastest client, but the types of folds it can do are very limited. Will be interesting to hear what the spits out. (for reference, if you read the blurbs from the site, the PS3 is considered somewhere in the middle between the GPU client and the CPU client for PCs in terms of speed vs flexibility)

Yup, I'm having tremendous trouble stabilizing the GPU client. I'm going to swap out the crossfire card for another x1900xtx and see if they both stabilize. I don't think it has completed any work units yet due to stability but it looks like it gets 1 step every 8-10 minutes on each gpu cruncher. I can only assume that a step is 1% until I see it turn something in.
Man I'm going to miss all the spare hardware when I leave this job. I'm going to have to play with my own toys. :(

A step has been 1% for me so far. Every 8-10 minutes is pretty impressive, it's taking my poor little iBook about an hour per step.

My WU went up while my score did not. I think this is due to all the errors I recieved while tuning the GPU client. It looks like the GPU client on an x1900xtx can complete a WU in 10 hours at stock clock speeds.

My iBook is taking anywhere from 4-6 hours per step, depending on other usage. The processor is 1.33 GHz, 768MB of RAM, and 500,000 steps per 1% (and I'm running the console version); is this slower than it should be? Any tweaks I can use (it's running at 100%).

Apple never made an iBook that's 4-6 times faster than mine, right? Maybe I just got a harder/longer (OLOL) work unit?

I haven't done any tweaks, but I'm running the console version as well -- you actually have more RAM than I do. It's possible that the protein you got is harder/longer (olololol cocks dicks etc.) than the ones I've gotten so far. Are you running a lot of applications? That could slow it down as well; I pretty much just do web browsing on here.

I generally run a web browser, iTunes, Adium, and maybe Thunderbird, but 95% of the day they're all just idling, so they use almost no processing power. I think it's just a more difficult WU, nothing I can do. I look forward to joining you guys with completed WUs in a week or two.

Does anyone know how I can monitor the SMP client on my Mac Pro? I used the installer version. According to the system preferences it's running, and the CPU load is 95, 61, 58 and 58% (quad core ftw). I'd just like to know how much work is actually done.

    Yes Fyre.

Crossfire was never enabled on the systems I have been fiddling with today.
Here's what I have running stable right now:
Quad core qx6700 running vista with 4 CPU clients.
Dual core x6800 running 1 CPU client and 2 GPU clients on dual x1900xtx.
Dual core Pentium D 950 running one CPU and 1 GPU client(x1900xtx). This is my email box.
Dual core Pentium D 950 running one CPU and 1 GPU client(x1900xtx).
Dual core AMD x2 4600 running 2 CPU clients. game box, (no nvidia client :( )

I tried 3 x1900xtx in one D975xbx2 intel board, but the 3rd pcie slot was not initializing that card or something. That would have been just silly loud.

When you overclock you make Raymond Chen cry. Stop.

This weekend I'm going to re-work my fan setup, and put an order in for a zalman flower cpu heatsink, as well as just upgrade the sheer size of some of my fans to get more air movement. I'd screw with the vid card timing, but that did not go so well. The old radeon 9550 agp does not like to have its innards messed with, at all.

Edit: Also, caving in and buying one of the better power supplies, as I think that too may be leading to certain issues.

Wow, you guys sure have been active. I really thought that I would be able to keep up but you guys are kicking my trash!

I just want to take a minute to answer a few questions.

    Does FAH overheat/fry my computer?

FAH puts a 100% load on your processor(s). This means that if your overclock is not absolutely stable, it's gonna crash. I actually started using FAH as a stress test for my overclocking and then left it running when I realized that I could help out (in my own geeky way). So make sure you have adequate cooling for your system. Stock Heatsink/fan's can't always keep up as they weren't meant to handle that kind of load. I actually had to take it off my Pentium D at home, it just made too much noise. I really need to get a better heatsink/fan (the stock intel one sucks bad).

In terms of frying anything... if your computer/PS3 is well designed, it shouldn't have any problems. I would recommend a weekly restart though. When I had a few older machines setup as a FAH farm I set them all to restart once a week. This seemed to help a lot.

Linux - I tried this on a few of the Linux servers that I administrate. Honestly it runs a lot slower, in my experience it was like 30-40% slower than running it under windows. My guess is that they really optimize for Windows/OSX/PS3 as there are more of them out there. I've heard of people using xboxen for folding, but they just don't compare anymore. For the amount of electricity they use you could save money by purchasing a cheap Pentium D and running two instances.

For those interested in setting up a more dedicated farm, you can run FAH of off a jumpdrive or across a network. Personally I think the network share approach is the best. I've played with it a little and you can get tons of CPU's running off of one hard drive. The downside is that your home will feel like a server room (with the power bill to prove it).

Considering the output that PS3's are capable of, it almost makes me want to buy one just as a folding machine. Of course my wife would kill me if I did that :P

P.S. Threepio, when you get that wiki up just let me know and I will get the information from this thread inputed. I'm starting to see repeat questions from people who don't want to read 14 pages of posts.

Edit: Ok I found the new wiki. Could whoever is in charge create a Folding area ont he sidebar? I'm locked from editing the sidebar.

I am mostly amused at how you can see when Japan is gaming via that client. In the mornings when I go to work Japan (also south korea, and some urban parts of china) is lit up like a christmas tree, but when I go to bed asia is pretty much entirely dark.
