IGN has a new article in the Gears section of their site titled
Wii Case Mod Report which has some cool new accessories that you can use too make your Wii look stylish and unique. These new items consist of replacement cases and skins for the Wii console. Also, in addition to forging a new look for your Wii, you will soon even be able to get replacement cases and skins for the controllers as well (this includes the nunchuk, Wiimote, and classic controller). I use the word "soon" there though because the replacement cases are not available for purchase yet, but should be in the near future. The skins however, are something that you can actually get now and for the most part they are pretty nice. Even better though is this case mod that someone made which must be shown first and foremost.

If you hurry, you can still buy it off eBay
here, assuming that you have at least a couple thousand dollars you can spare.

Anyway . . .
Replacement casesBlack and Clear SHOCKii Wii Cases from Xtreme Enterprises:
For gamers that strive for individuality but don't have all the skills required to approach the quality of the Zelda Wii there are a number of companies developing replacement Wii shells in a variety of colors, ideal as the groundwork of a hardcore mod or simply on their own. We've taken a look at Xtreme Enterprises SHOCKii Wii case (
story) and Nunchuck and Wiimote shells (
story) as they have progressed from concept to production.
Today Xtreme Enterprises released new pictures of their SHOCKii replacement case. The company expects to launch in April with Black and Clear color options, which will be followed by other colors down the line.
Preorders are available now for $69.90.
Chrome I-Case Wii Shell by XCM:
Earlier this week we got a look at
XCM's upcoming I-Case Wii shell (
story). The fully chromed Wii looks rather sexy, just so long we're sure it's not a T-1000 in disguise. The I-Case is expected to hit the streets soon, and XCM is promising an install process so easy that kids and grandmothers could get it done.

Console and controller skins (Not all shown)
Console Skins:
We're aware that there are plenty of people that just aren't into the idea of cutting open their beloved Wiis and exposing the magics that lie inside to the harsh elements of the real world, even if it's just for a quick process of upgrading domiciles. Happily, all is not lost on the customization front for these cautious folk.
DecalGirl has 157 different Wii skin stickers that can be applied and removed from any Wii with absolutely no screw driver-ing required.
Though we wouldn't count them as real modds, at $14.99 they're a nicely noninvasive means of giving your Wii something in which to dress herself up.
Controller Skins:
Note: The controller skins are
priced separately at $4.99 for the nunchuk/Wiimote combo and again, $4.99 for the classic controller.

So that is all of the new Wii accessories from the IGN article. There is some other stuff that I will be adding later on as well though.
Alright, now lets see who can end up with the Legend of Zelda Wii. I can't acquire the item because I'm too broke so I expect someone else here to purchase this most epic item. Good luck, I'm counting on you guys.

The Solar Wii Video
The parts:
Nintendo Wii with a copy of Wii Sports - $249.99
Copy of Excite Truck - $49.99
Gateway HD FPD2485W monitor - $679.99
PowerUp 20W 12V solar power panel - $181.25
Energizer 27DC-850 Deep Cycle battery - $79.99
Vector 225W power inverter - $39.99
Speed Glo power meter - $29.99
Large battery box - $14.99
Outlet plug adapter - $14.99
Wood for mobile carrier - $40
Wheels, fasteners and other materials - $50
Total: approximately $1,431.17
How it works: basically, we slapped an HD monitor on a cart with wheels and threw a Wii and a battery inside. The cherry on top of the sundae, of course, is the solar panel, which draws around 20 watts of electricity. The electricity is stored in the battery and then sent through the power inverter to both the Wii and the HD monitor and speakers. Unfortunately, because we required a small form factor, the solar panel only supplies about one tenth of the total power draw. Oddly enough, the Wii itself draws only 40 to 45 watts, while the monitor and speakers draw 130 watts at maximum use. Still, the panel contributes a (mostly) continuous flow of power to the battery, which is an integral part of prolonging the play time. Plus, all that's needed to recharge the battery is leaving the cart out in direct sunlight.
Cause Nintendo doesn't license out it's brand name to third parties. How thick are those classic controller skins, and are they stickers or an actual face plate. I would get some of those, but I'd like the option to remove them if I wanted, save them, and then re-apply later. They look like stickers or paint.

Yeah. If they were actual new shells I'd get the NES one.

I think they work like something pretty close to stickers but you can actually re-apply them, kind of like how you can remove and re-apply a screen protector used on the DS. If you go to the website for the skins shown in the IGN quote and then click on one of them it gives a product description that clears things up a bit better and is also something of a relief (I thought they were straight up stickers at first myself):
"This 'Retro' full-color skin set is digitally printed in glossy, high-res, true-color glory onto the best materials available. It applies easily - the channeled adhesive means no goofy air bubbles, and as always, it comes right off without leaving any gunk behind on your controls."
Edit: This might help a bit more. Below is an actual photo of one of the skins on a controller.
However, that chrome finish one is sex. I'd consider getting it if it's as easy to install as they say it is.
If you look through the Ebay stuff, he was actually aiming for a wrought iron feel, which I think he got rather well.
Not that I'd pay a grand for it, mind you, but it's interesting none-the-less.
The decals were kind of a pain to align correctly. But they are very correct when they say that you can reapply them so it didn't matter how many times I screwed up, it stuck just fine when I did get alignment correct

It could be worse.
Do the decals add any extra grip to the wiimote?
I just wanted to vouch for them that they aren't some cheap flimsy sticker you put on your stuff

HAHAHA, it gets me every time.
Uh.
What?

if he fills the OP, he plans on posting more monstrositWiis on the 2nd Post, he'll edit them in later.
To be honest, I don't think I could ever go back to the plain white Wii & Wiimotes.
So, do the skins add any extra grip to the wiimotes? I just really really want to know this information.
A very little bit, where they do in fact cover. I mean it is a different surface, sort of rubbery with a finish on top. But if grip is a real problem for you, I don't think they'd be the solution you want. Partially because it's a barely noticeable difference in grip (for me at least) and also because they don't cover the whole controller. Just the top face of the Wiimotes, and some tiny little decals really for the Nunchuck.
I don't know if it technically counts, but I bought one of those cheap third-party silicon Wiimote/Nunchuk skins and I dig it. Not the ones you see with the Zelda/Mario/Peach logos and stuff on them, but it's just a generic black color; I don't remember what site it was from. But I like them, especially the nunchuk one; I'm a sweaty hander, so the white plastic got a tad uncomfortable after a while.
And yeah, I am going to add a bit more to that second post later apotheos.
Edit: Holy shit that Lost in Blue thing is bad.
Grip isn't a problem, its just the piece of information that puts me over the edge to purchasing.
Like I said, I figured it gave no grip support, and I've been thinking of getting these, but the fact that it even adds the tinniest fraction of grip just put me over the edge.
i'm going to eventually get a DecalGirl skin for my PS2 slim as well.

Maybe you just suck at putting them on? My consoles look fine.
I don't put them on because I don't buy them for the reasons stated. Options here are
a) you are a sticker application master
b) you don't notice how tacky your consoles are
The only way to settle this is with images.

Edit: Also, I added some stuff to the OP but I couldn't figure out how to change the title to reflect that.
I'll take some pictures of mine when I get home. I can't speak for others, but the Decalgirl ones are very, very form fitting. Scarcely any of the original surface shows, especially if you get the joints properly.
Hit Edit. Then hit Edit again.
There were about a half dozen or so decals I had to apply so there are seams where one decal meets another or a corner is turned. I certainly acknowledge that my Wii has attained a certain level of tacky with this Union Jack decal being applied. Its certainly not going to win any awards for aesthetics. I just figured, what the hell? Its not a huge eyesore and I had never done a skin before so I figured I can give it a try and if I really come to hate it I can remove it easily and only be out 30 bucks or whatever it cost me.

So how about that Solar Powered Wii? I certainly wouldn't mind having one.
First off, my initial reply wasn't meant to sound quite so.. combative? That said, I will not be posting photos, because arguing over personal taste is an exercise in futility.
For those of you who do like the looks of the skins decalgirl offers, I will still vouch for their quality. They haven't unstuck or lost colour even after I had to use rubbing alcohol to remove some unfortunate spillage from my Wiimote.
