I have a thing for 2nd string heros so I subscrbed to this guy. Havent ever read him but damn! The writing is pretty good on this fella. Anyone else reading it right now?

I wish Dr. Strange had his own regular series now. I went two issues with the recent mini-series but couldnt continue the writing was simply too awful. Dr. Strange acting like a tough-guy and saying words like "Holy Crap" simply arent even close to canon. Nor is it any good.

It showed that Dr. Strange is human, like all of us. You think he goes around and always talks in high prose?

"By the Hoary-***king-Hoasts!" was one of the best lines of that entire month.

I like Dr. Strange as a character, but he's always seemed rather unapproachable. The Oath changed that. You can see he genuinely cares about Wong, that he still values the Hippocratic Oath, and that he can hold his own in a fight.

    EDIT:

I've been reading the new MK series since it started. Been loving it so far. I wish it was a MAX title so it could let Spector actually swear, but I'd rather have them move more issues and stay uncancelled. :P

Yeah, I never understood why training under the Ancient One and becoming a master of the mystic arts was meant to erase the decades of experiences he had as a mere mortal.

To me Strange was the one good guy under Lee 's direction that seemed more comic-bookey in the silver and golden age sense. Except that he was dark a la' the black arts (which probably angered a lot of parents back in the day). Marvel's thing has always been "more human" characters. It's been done a thousand times over and for me I want them to leave the good Doctor alone and leave him well, strange.

I used to enjoy when he slapped Wong around like the slave he is living in his New York palace of weirdness. very much weird with the manslave, the tight-fitting pants, the drag-queen Clea...hmmm...something is wrong here.

The mini is over now. You might have to resort to an online dealer for the earlier issues.

I guess you'll have to read New Avengers for your Dr. Strange fix. Although, I don't understand why you didn't like The Oath (which was pretty awesome) but still looking for Dr. Strange material. The Oath is pretty much as good as it gets as i heard JMS's mini was pretty bad.

Enh. Unless it ended a long while ago, my comic store will probably still have new copies of all of them. They usually have three or four issues worth of backstock for anything Marvel or DC puts out.

is he a regular member of the team now? tbh i was a comic freak about 10 years ago and only recently got back into it. minus realistic stuff like Adrian Tomine and a grphic novel here and there but that kind of thing is few and far between.

Doctor Strange is a full member of the New Avengers lineup.

I missed the boat on the Dr. Strange mini, and I'm hoping it gets released as a trade sometime this year.

It will be, for a number of reasons. One, it's from Marvel, and they release everything in trades. Two, it's written by one of the bigger names in comics right now. And three, it features one of the newest members of Marvel's best selling supergroup.

Wasn't he (eventually) part of the anti-reg side? I dont have it handy but I swear at the end of CW #7 the New Avengers as currently constructed are basically the group who says "fuck you all we arent gonna surrender" and Dr. Strange (being one of them) teleports them all to safety.

He was basically neutral during Civil War, but regrets not intervening, apparently. That's what I heard in an interview, anyway.

Strange spent the war meditating in the mountains, praying for the safety of whoever "loses" the war. After the war, I guess he saw the light and took the New Avengers under his wing and is housing them in his sanctum.

While we're on the subject, is there a really a leader of the New Avengers? They just seems very democratic to me so far.

It's not a bad thing. Think about it, there's a hero or villain archetype out there that is the complete converse of you (like that shitty movie Unbreakable) and likes everything. Imagine what a douche he/she is.

I greatly disliked it and just couldn't enjoy it from any perspective for very long. It seemed to move so slowly and presented me with a less than thrilling climax. That being said, it was a great concept I just hated the execution

Took y'alls advice and got my D Strange fix in the New New Avengers. man thats a good book. best team comic i've read in a long time. best art i've seen in any mainstream comic for my tastes.

Dr. Strange isn't as goofy (<3) as he was in the 60s and 70s but he is the quiet competent magician. I like the new style big time. I even am coming around to Iron Fist. (shudder)

I am just going to try and settle in with him a bit with the Avengers. I've never liked the dude so it's going to take time.

I'm not ready for dinner and movie just yet so if it's okay how about we just meet for a casual lunch Iron Fist?

Semi-relevant, but I got a hook up on some Essential books, so I picked up volume 1 of Power Man, Iron, Fist, Moon Knight, Nova, and X-Factor. I haven't gotten to read them just yet, but an evening of 70s chopsocky goodness awaits me.

And, yeah, the new Iron Fist for the win.
