Totally honest review time of the expiring tracks, because boredom:
• System of a Down - “B.Y.O.B.”
• System of a Down - “Toxicity”
I stayed away from these tracks in the RB1 era because they were painful to watch other people play. BYOB's got challenging parts for everybody. If you get one, get BYOB.
Toxicity seems like a drummer's track. Guitar gets challenging near the end (i couldn't play that chart back then without failing), but never really interesting.
Crooked X - “Gone”
This song sounds like a wrestler's theme. Nice bass and drum chart, guitar is a snore.
• Naked Brothers Band - “Body I Occupy”
Okay, I'll give this song credit. It's really fun to play.. as a Blitz song. Scoring opportunities everywhere, I could probably push this song up to a million if I wanted to put the time into it. The instrument parts are solid, but never really go anywhere. The vocals are banal and repetitive (and they obviously went through "pop song vocals checklist"
[x] soft chorus
[x] shift octave and repeat chorus
[x] yell-sing the chorus
[x] scream the chorus
Didn't play this in RB3, i imagine it's a chordfest. Seriously though the lyrics have about six different words.
• Naked Brothers Band - “I Don’t Want To Go To School”
there was nothing redeeming about this song, it sucks to play in blitz. a failed attempt at pop do-wop. Only get this if you absolutely must have every expiring song. Terriiiible
• Scars on Broadway - “They Say”
This song is good butt rock. Crunchy bass, driving drums. Honestly if they had made the refrain more in line with the more butt-rocky parts of the song I would automatically recommend it. It's a song that wanted to be hard rock and emo at the same time. I'd say pick it up, but give it a listen first.
• Tokio Hotel - “Ready, Set, Go!”
It's Tokio Hotel as fuck. not hard but fun drum chart. Guitar is a snore. Not really much fun to play in Blitz.
I just went through (YouTube) these songs last night and I suppose I more or less agree. From my perspective, there is a reason I avoided these songs in the first place. I'll probably pick up Gone, but I'm not in any particular hurry. I'm saving my money right now to see what next week's so-called Black Friday sale is.
The short of it is, if you were paying attention when these songs came out and didn't get them then, they aren't any better now that they're going away. If you're new, then maybe you find your own value.
I will leave it to FyreWulff and what he says regarding Blitz. It wouldn't surprise me that they're better in that game, but I still judge a song more on how it sounds than how it plays.
So... The weather didn't fuck off enough which delayed my going to the bank. Unfortunately, that also meant missing out on 60% their force-feedback wheel.
Until today, that is. So with some good fortune, that'll be a pretty sweet deal. Woo!

I know there's a Rocksmith thread, but my dad finally booted up his original copy and tried to play (been years since he actually played guitar) and was trying to fix the lag issue. Played the first time and got about 100 points.
"Let me try."
"This isn't like Rock Band."
"Let me try."
I played and got 700.
"Is there a way you can reset that?"
Luckily we figured out the lag issue a bit and I think I might practice with him.

Don't be scared to join us we're nice fellows really! But you may end up spending more money than you ever expected on guitars after coming in
Also, were you playing Rocksmith or the new 2014? I cannot stress enough how much of an improvement it is over the first one as a teaching tool. And session mode is an absolute dream for many guitarist. By owning the original (If that's what you have) you can pay $10 and import all but a couple songs (the 2 with Clapton and not sure of the other one)

Nah, my dad already has GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome) and has up of at least a dozen if not 20 including at least 4 that are collectable/signed.
Initially he tried one of his cheaper ones till he looks at me and says, "I wonder if my Frankenstien will work better..." That was the guitar he built back in 96/97 and gets a lot of praise from his fellow musicians due to it's craftsmanship and finish. (one even offered to buy it on the spot for $800)
We/He was playing the original RS. There was about a full second delay from strum to noise but we turned up the TV, turn down the soundbar, cranked the delay to 300 and turned off the TV smart audio settings and got it down to about half a second, but there's still a noticeable lag.
He got the new 360 E model, and I think he's gonna try plugging speakers into the A/V jack and see if that works.
Your dad should make one for me, since I'm foolishly considering picking up a Squier just to play with Rocksmith...at some point. $300 is still a lot now that I foolishly bought stuff from Mad Catz.
My hope is to at least replace my PPP*, but that's for much later, if ever. I'll have to deal with the Mustang and Pro Mode until then**.

My dad actually made his from a DIY kit he purchased.
To my knowledge, I think it's the only one he completed but he has 2 or 3 others and even bought an airbrush set which he also never opened (life got in the way).

I've looked at some of the DIY kits on ebay and various sites. They range from pretty cheap to really nice kits depending on who you go through/what quality of wood you want. If you're comfortable with doing the work, it's an affordable way to get a really nice guitar.
People often discount the tuners on a guitar. As people have talked about in the RS thread, the problem with a cheap guitar a lot of times is they'll go out of tune or be hard to tune. A nice set of tuners can run about $100. So if you spend a little more for something a bit nicer, don't think it's not money well spent.
I had to sell it. Short form: lost my job, unemployment ran out, had to sell to make rent. Lost or left behind a lot of things when I had to leave my old place, but that's one of the things I highly regret. Necessary, but still regret.
The plan was always even if I never learned to play, it would look awesome as a piece of art. So yeah, I'd like it back...
Sorry to hear that man. I don't what it is about the guitar there, I normally hate the SG style body, but that thing looks nice. It's like this Strat somebody showed me, might have been a Stevey ray Vaughn model. I hate strats. But it was this beautiful tobacco burst with gold hardware, looked a bit southern but classy. I don't like strats, but I wouldn't kick that thing out of bed I'll tell you that.

I appreciate the thoughts. I came to terms with the whole situation a while ago. Some things just suck no matter what you do about it.
At any rate, I ordered the MIDI Pro adapter. Not sure if I'll ever get a set of MIDI drums, but I'm at least prepared for it. The only other thing I 'need' is a post-GH4 GH controller.
NocrenLt Futz, Back in ActionNorth CarolinaRegistered Userregular
Luckily with the midi adapter, any set of drums will work. Heck, I'm sure if I asked nicely... (REALLY nicely) I could setup my dad's Roland kit and use that.
I ordered mine from Mad Catz. $20. Amazon has them, too.
It's just after hearing all the pre-RB3 drums failing combined with not having any money to get them, I missed out on the drums. Figured I might get the $300 set made for RB3, but they discontinued it. So I'll just look at other drums later.
I had fun with it when I was at symbolsor's house. Doubt I'd really do much beyond get the achievements for drumming. But as an alternative it wouldn't be a terrible thing.
Got my Mustang and went through the Rock Band Store to see how many upgrades I 'need'.
Forty-seven. Forty-seven upgrades. That's just of the songs I currently have as opposed to songs I've yet to buy. And I'm pretty sure the GDRB songs had some upgrades, so I'll need to check in-game for stuff like that.
Interesting. Harmonix just said on the stream the RBN haitus is due to:
- Microsoft switching from MSP to real money
- The RBN XNA pipeline was set up for MSP. The songs that passed RBN were technically pushed up, but they didn't show up on the store because their price is still MSP and not real dollars.
- Harmonix has been actively talking with Microsoft to get this fixed. They haven't gotten a commitment from Microsoft either way.
- Harmonix cannot fix the situation from their end. Microsoft has to fix whatever internals to make the RBN songs have real dollars assigned to them instead of MSP.
- Last week, ~4 tracks randomly got published. Harmonix wasn't notified they would be published. So they don't want to commit to announcing RBN getting weekly content again because Microsoft hasn't told them if this means they'll be publishing RBN tracks weekly.
- tl;dr Microsoft
edit: a rockband forum post from HMXHenry
We've tracked reports that several songs previously stuck in limbo snuck out yesterday, but this should not be seen as an indication that the pipeline is 100% fixed. We had requested that these songs get manually pushed through the pipeline months ago, and we never received final confirmation from Microsoft that they'd be able to do that, and we didn't get any warning that they had made any progress with these tracks.
Most importantly, we still don't know if Microsoft will be able to do the same for any future submissions. We obviously don't want more songs to get stuck in the pipeline, and we don't want anyone to have to wait several months for a resolution on blocked tracks. There are a number of questions and communications issues that still need to get addressed, so while I'm glad to see that these particular tracks seem to have finally been rescued from limbo, I don't want anyone to get their hopes up about RBN output in the immediate future.
We'll work to confirm that all the missing tracks have appeared, and also confirm with Microsoft that this was an intentional fix, and try to get reassurances that they'll be able to help with RBN submissions moving forward. Keep posted for updates.
Hmm! That sounds like fun. I might do that, but I don't get out of work until 10 pm EST, so... we'll see. I live in an apartment, have neighbors, thin walls, yadda yadda.
That said, I really need some new RB guitars. I'm thinking of going back to the 360 GH2 ones, because the RB style just never grew on me. The buttons and the strum bar just feel mushy and not good. But it's looking like Ebay may be the only place where I can reliably get one for a reasonable cost. Who knew this stuff would still be so expensive?

Somehow, my RB2 set still works. Quite well, I might add! I think it might be because I actually bought a set of those shock absorbent pads a ways back that you stick on top of the drum pads. That and I really don't feel the need to wail on them too hard--from what I've seen, lots of people do.
Aw damnit. I went to link the 'quick library' guide to someone, and it looks like it's gone. I don't know if that RB thread got tombstoned or they stopped redirecting old threads...
edit: false alarm! was able to get it back by googling for it:
Chroma looks very unique and interesting, but one bit in IGN's preview has me worried.
"Chroma will be free-to-play, with additional maps, music, and modes available for purchase."
Selling music for a primarily local multiplayer game like Rock Band is okay, but for a free to play online shooter just sounds like it would fragment the player base and hurt the game, especially selling maps and modes. What happens if I try and join a game, or am in a game that changes maps, and I don't own that map? Seems like it would lead to long matchmaking times if you don't own everything or being dropped from games periodically and both will only get worse as they release more content for the game.
I hope I am wrong though, I know this is early and they could change their mind or have a clever way of implementing it, but it sounds like a bad idea.

That's pretty much what happened with Rock Band. The short version is they released over 2000 songs for purchase and it simply got so hard to match DLC with people that more and more often you saw people getting pissed off because they weren't being matched up with the potentially 2.5% of the people who probably own 90% of the same songs.
I don't know what this game is about or for, but I have zero faith in HMX and their ability to properly implement it.
Oh, and Rock Band Blitz is on sale for the next seven days (through next Monday) via XBL for $4.04. Not a bad deal for 25 extra songs. Even better if, like me, you were unimpressed with the RBB soundtrack.
I, on the other hand, bought it for $7.50 about a month before they announced that the songs would then be sold individually. So I'd have rather paid four bucks.
I am actually curious what percentage of Rock Band players tried online multiplayer but for most the DLC worked fine when they are jamming with their friends in the living room. However since Chroma is an online only game it is going to affect everyone, not just a subset of the players, and you would think Harmonix would know better but it sure sounds like they don't.
My problem with Rock Banding online was that I was on PS3 and they never did figure out what the fuck was up with the random game resets.
It wasn't terrible when playing solo because it honestly did happen all that often but when you had four people online? Every time it happened you'd have to wait for whoever crashed to reload their library before you could reinvite them and virtually everyone I played online with had massive libraries (which is why we were all on each others friend's lists in the first place)

I can practically guarantee you it was a small amount. Even Call of Duty can't pull over 50% of it's copies using online, and it's only downhill from there.
They did cut the versus modes due to very low usage. Something like 3% of users used Score Duel/Tug of War. With all of RB3's instruments, it would have been even more of a wasteland.
