In case you missed it, in the preview video for Practice, the entire song keeps playing even at the lower speeds. Guessing that's another label request.
Also, if nobody minds - I'd like to make a new Rock Band thread after the expansion is revealed at E3. This one is a bit long in the tooth and the title is out of date, and with online returning it'd be helpful to have a continually updated list of XBL/PSN names to add for MP. All respect to Arikado, of course. The expansion announcement will probably be a good time to try and get more people interested in this community.
This big announcement makes me think that they chose a very odd time to run their Fig campaign for a PC port. With all of these things announced, I'd imagine the port would be more attractive (though I'm not sure it'd get funded even with what's on the horizon).

I've seen a lot of questions around how this expansion pack is going to work, and wanted to take a minute to explain a few things.
The expansion pack coming in the fall is going to be Chapter 2 for Rock Band 4. You'll get some big features up front with the expansion pack, but you're also buying into updates that lead into 2017. The content plan will be similar to the free updates you got with Rock Band 4.
Essentially, you buy the expansion pack, you get stuff up front, and you also get free updates for a while after that. Online is one of those updates. If you have the expansion pack, online multiplayer will be a free update.
Wait, you're charging us for online multiplayer?
You’re paying for an expansion pack that includes awesome features (more to come at E3), online multiplayer, and consistent updates into 2017. So if I have to answer this question in a word, that word would have to be 'yes,' but you're getting a lot more than just online for your money.
What if I don't get the expansion pack?
You'll get the Music Library Enhancements coming in the fall. You'll also continue to get bug-fixes and minor improvements. Features and content will be locked.
What about the ION adapter? Will it work with my e-kit?
If you have the MIDI PRO-Adapter, yes. The adapter will accept a USB input from either the ION drum brain or the Mad Catz MIDI Pro-Adapter.
Because I'm sure they've solved the issue where only about dive percent really cared about it and of those, probably a 75% chance they get pissed when playing online and people pick songs without dedicated keys.

Sounds like a winner!
It's not like you couldn't just play the guitar/bass track on those songs then go back to pro keys on the key songs.

Didn't matter. Keys players would get upset at both the quantity of keys songs released and the inability to filter by DLC and suffering through non-keys songs. Adding keys and pro guitar was probably their biggest mistake.
keys probably would have gone over better if they'd let you play keys tracks using the five-button guitar, like how you can play guitar/bass tracks using the keyboard controller
they'd pretty much have to go that route if they were going to introduce support for legacy keys tracks (they won't, but still)
Guitars can play five-key keyboard tracks. Just as keys can play five-button guitar tracks.
But, not as part of a set. Which was another issue. You had to select the instrument you intended to play and were stuck with it for the duration of the set.
For example, playing the 'ultimate' set list in RB3 with the guitar meant sitting out Imagine when it comes up because there are no guitar parts. And this is the basis of most of the anger coming from online keys players. If they commit to keys, they do nothing during songs without any charted keys.
To a lesser degree you got the same complaints from pro guitar players which led to the comical fix that required everybody playing to have the pro upgrade or you couldn't play at all.
The additions to RB3 really fucked things up. Especially with the demand that all legacy DLC be supported.
Yep. It's one of the things I'll say.. keys sort of put everything in a bind. And I have a pro keys keyboard and bought the midi pro solely to play an 88 key keyboard.
It caused so many issues with band setup, it devalued every single piece of DLC that came out to that point as 'lesser' because it didn't support keys, it forced tracks to keep keys on guitar and guitar on guitar, which made certain songs a snore on both instruments, and they were too tempted to make (RB3 Version) repeat DLC to add keys to it. You were playing abridged real keys to accomodate the fact that it's a semi-casual game and to fit the instrument on screen with 4 other instruments. etc etc.
In retrospect, I think they would have been better off making a separate Harmonix Teaches Keys product, with display and support for a full 88 key keyboard. Pro Guitar? That was a war between them and Ubisoft, and Ubisoft won it, so competing against them is a waste of time. So many people didn't even know RB3 had a Real Guitar(ish) mode, because it established itself already as Beatmatch.
So as much as it sounds like i'm a dev apologist, I'll agree with what HMXHenry said.. in some respects, RB3 was a bit too big and sprawling. It's one of and will probably always be the greatest music game released, a labor of love, but holy crap it's extremely top heavy and leaving Viacom and trying to release a game the size of RB3 again all in one go is just not doable.. but at least the one time they had the Checkbook of All Checkbooks, they made good use of it.
Proguitar should be out because it was a huge misstep but keys?
The only thing that doesn't strike me as fixable with the way keys worked in RB3 is people bitching about much of the DLC not supporting them which, eh, fuck it people are going to bitch.
That said I'm not exactly clamoring for it to be put back in. Adding it back in and fixing the issues wouldn't be trivial and while I had some friends who loved it they were generally just as happy to be doing guitar/bass/drums/vocals.
Not much new, factoids such as online was greenlit only two months ago, and they confirm all the QOL and such updates are free to everyone with the base game.
also Microsoft greenlit the ekit adapter only five days ago.
also this tidbit was interesting
You ever talk with the Rocksmith team and tell each other, “Hey, these guys are willing to play ball now, give them a call.”?
Josh: “Ooh, no, but we should.”
Criss: “That’s a good idea.”
Josh: “Yeah, our licensing is a bit different, but since we’re not competing in the market with those guys, we totally could. They seem super nice, they’d probably be down for it!”
Also no paid characters to play with, causes too many issues with royalties.
So I played Rock Band at PAX for like the third time in my life, and the first time in years. I think I caught a bug for drumming, but I only have a PS3. What's a good price to pay for a set of drums and some sort of PS3 copy of a Rock Band title?
So what's the cheapest way back into Rock Band 4 for a Wii player? Obviously sell off my instruments/games in a yardsale or ebay since they won't be compatible...but would it be cheap used instruments from the PS3 era at used gameshops/yardsales? I know I'd need a new dongle but is it pretty easy to tell PS3 guitar vs 360 guitar, PS3 drums vs 360 drums?
Also are the cymbals pretty much universal so I should take those off my drums before selling them?
The cymbals should just connect using a 1/8 jack on the kit. Not sure if RB3 cymbals are compatible with RB4 kits if that's a direction you end up going.
As for the instruments, 360 ones will have the Xbox Guide button on them. Not sure it there is PS3 equivalent. The drums will have the standard face buttons. ABXY for Xbox and square, triangle, et al. for PlayStation.
EDIT:
And you're probably better off just buying the full band kit for ~$250 than trying to hunt down RB3 gear.
Previous gen cymbals aren't platform specific at all and will work with RB4. Supposedly the ones made for RB4 specifically work better but I'm fairly skeptical.
"Oh, well, hey! Guess what! I have good news! It's bad news for me, because I was given the wrong information! But it's GOOD NEWS for everyone else! Turns out, we are at liberty to standardize the band names, so we are going to be doing this! Once the metadata for affected tracks (Tom Petty, Joan Jett, HIM, etc.) is updated, this should be reflected in your Music Libraries. I don't have an exact date as to when this is happening, but I can let you know when it is, by way of Patch Notes or otherwise. Hooray! Lots of exclamation points!"
Some songs are marked HIM, some are H.I.M. , so they don't sort together.
The newest DLC has the band as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, the older ones were Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, so they dont' sort together.
Before they said they were stuck due to licensing requirements for the song names and artists, the guess is they've figured out a loophole to change them or they're separating the display name from the sort name.

On an unrelated note has anyone come across any good mod instructions for the RB4 guitars? I love it overall but the strum bar is too loose on both my PAX guitar and my bundle one. I almost can't make it through a song without it registering multiple double strums.

they've very firmly said keys and pro are never coming back.

Sadly, even though I purchased the export in February, 2010, it will not allow me to export. I'm working with Sony now to hopefully get this resolved.
Did they do anything besides Breakfast at Tiffany's?

RB4 cymbals are not backwards compatible with RB2 or RB3 kits.
A bunch of LIVE stuff. They could very well go for studio versions.
