its shitty knockoffs like spec ops the line though...
You do know that Spec Ops is nothing like CoD, nor is it trying to be anything remotely like it right?
it most certainly is
spec ops the line would not exist in its current form if call of duty had not exploded
it follows the video Pony posted to a Rated T for Teen
Besides the modern setting in Sandistan and shooting generic brown guys, you really don't know anything about Spec Ops at all, do you? It's not trying to be anything like CoD at all.
it is trying very hard to be like cod so it can do "hey isn't cod kind of screwed up you guys"
and it's not like cod wasn't basically doing the same thing as far back as "no russian"
requiring the player to participate in horrible things in order to progress the game, and then chiding them for having done so, is not exactly clever or insightful
There is definitely a lot wrong with the modern military shooter genre these days, but Black Ops 2 actually does some pretty interesting story stuff. It just isn't terribly accurate to say the CoD series isn't trying to innovate. Modern Warfare 3, sure. But Treyarch is doing pretty solid work with the Black Ops series. I'm pretty much over modern military shooters at this point, but that's more of a general burnout, and it's still easy to appreciate the obvious work that developer has put into breathing new life into the genre as much as activision lets them.

I do find it funny that so many people with wireless 360 controllers go with the rechargeable battery made specifically for the controller instead of just buying the battery cover that holds 2 double As. With the battery cover, I can use rechargeable double As and when the batteries run low, I just throw in some charged batteries while the drained ones recharge. With the rechargeable battery, you have to plug the whole controller in which is just stupid.
I've never jumped on rechargeable batteries before
How long do they remain viable?
I get about 8hrs straight playtime with mine
ant they do start waning you when they are about 25 percent, the guide button does a little light show

Been using the same set of AAs for about 3 years at least.

Except CoD didn't require you to play that sequence at all. It was explicitly and blatantly used as not only a marketing thing (controversy = money) but as a terrible play at trying to make you go "Oh man that guy is a dick and totally evil I hate him and now totally invested in this shit story."
Each of the classes look really damn cool and I'm having a hard time choosing

Man, at first I just thought this thing was smoke and mirrors and interesting concept art, but that gameplay trailer has certainly changed my mind. I'm pretty excited! Drop in drop out pseudo-FPS/MMO hybrid was an itch I didn't know I had.
I've gotta hand it to Bungie, they know exactly the words to say and attitude to have when it comes to their world building and such
Seriously their GDC panel is great to just listen to and see how this whole thing evolved from something I would've been skeptical of and wary about to what it is now.

Yeah. I know whatever class I pick I will be super happy with, but at the same time I will be staring at the other two with envy. There is just no winning.

You can have more than one character, this was confirmed by a really early video they did - the login screen had a character selection.
On the one hand, I really hate Activision and don't care much about Bungie but on the other hand it looks kinda neat, but then again I don't have any friends who will want to play this in a reasonable time zone....
Fuck. Kinda want to not buy it because Activision...
Destiny is still like a year out, so I've got time to wait and see how people feel about the new consoles once they're out before deciding my platform of choice.
After seeing the bombast of leaping around with jetpacks and shit in Titanfall, this demo (though gorgeous to the extreme holy shit) was just sort of slow.
They'll doubtless be totally different in pacing though. You can't really compared CoD style multiplayer to something like say Borderlands co-op. And also, there is really no way of telling how quickly the game moves until you play it. Watching someone play Borderlands is super boring, but playing it is way different.
i went from enthusiastic to not caring at all in 2 minutes 49 seconds
pretty sure that's the opposite of what trailers are supposed to make you do
Yeah, the content they have offered so far is pretty meager.
Thinking about it, it looks like Halo with 2 or 3 guns from Borderlands.

I sort of agree, and wasn't supremely wowed by the trailer footage
but it was enough to still keep me optimistic and interested
Especially in comparison to strict multi from something like CoD or Titanfall, it's gonna look slow. But Halo games (barring 343's entry) have always been slower games than Respawn/IW stuff while still being a lot of fun. I guess I'm expecting a pace along the lines of playing Halo Reach co-op campaign.

The most intriguing thing they've shown was the seamless multiplayer to connect several separate parties at once, but that's going to be so tough to implement in a real world scenario. Lag and bandwidth instability are difficult things to work with. But that said, the idea that I can team up with my brother and a friend and tool around doing our own thing while there's a constant actual background matchmaking lobby while we're playing offering up optional large-party conflicts is kinda neat.
yeah the reason I like Halo over CoD and what have you is because it played what I felt like a tiny bit slower unreal tournament, where the focus was on the maps and the weapons and the gun fights where lengthy but still not that long, not the instant death of call of duty which feels like instant gib unreal x4 speed to me
so I'm curious what type of gun play they are going for in destiny seems slowish which is not a bad thing
Yeah, Bungie, and they still love their mythic sci-to and all the elements are there visually. Gameplay wise though, it really just looks like a further evolution in what they were pushing once they hit Halo: Reach and broke away from what the previous games were: Iron sights, load outs, combat slides, emotes, specialised powers, talent points, skill trees, and full character customisation.
I think Adam Sessler put it best, this feels like Bungie finally has the resources, time, and support they've always wanted and needed for the ambitious stuff they've wanted to put into a large co-op game like this. I feel like Destiny has more longer lasting potential with everything they've got planned and the amount of time they have until launch.
Also having your AI Ghost buddy played by Peter Dinklage is a pretty nice cherry on top.

It failed at one of those things.

Well if I get a job I'm probably gonna get a PS4 near launch anyway.
Then my only problem really is Activision.
