I don't think I played that one normally?
Or at least in Sonic Mania I don't recall having to breathe.
Bubble shield will negate the need for breathing.
I think it might have been the non-sheild giant bubble but yeah.
I don't remember needing any pots? Just dodging walls and launching stuff at the pursuer.

Is there a list of the changes and updates so far? I know it probably won't have everything yet, but I'd still like to see it.

The temptation to double dip on the physical version is stronk
I have succumbed to this. I own Mania three ways.
Same. I bought it on Switch and PC digitally when first released, bought the super special edition (with the statue) which came with a PS4 download code, and figured I'd pick up Mania Plus on Switch physically because I'm a dumb crazy collector.

Been playing Sonic Mania Plus on the Switch, I'm pretty impressed. Been really enjoying it. The music is also great. Maybe other developers showing how Sega how it can be done can be a little bit of a wake-up call?
But where's the debug mode from Sonic 1?! Where you could start placing enemies, objects, and other fun stuff. That was super cool to mess around with back in the day.

Debug mode was in the original, not sure if it’s the same for Plus

You have to play blue sphere and unlock it
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
I double-dipped on the physical edition of Sonic Mania Plus. Now I have the Genesis cover to go along with the Genesis reproduction cartridge. And the Genesis reproduction with the Sonic figure on it. Sega is really milking my nostalgia for all its worth. (Turns out it's worth a lot of money, though, so...)
I've beaten Encore mode, which I have some mixed feelings about. I love the idea of a hard mode in a Sonic game and the palette swapped stages generally look wonderful. But the way the difficulty curve works due to the lives is ... I don't know.
Also, while I like Mighty and Ray well enough, I'm not sure if more characters was what I'd have most wanted from a Sonic Mania revision. Unless I just haven't found it yet, they haven't added a Time Attack mode for special stages have they? I loved that Sonic CD included that. I also wish that there was more than a single pinball bonus stage, since I'm pretty much constantly in need of continues / shields, I ended up playing the one bonus stage a lot.
Seeing the speedrun way of doing special stages makes me unreasonably angry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA6JtjdsgGk
And that was a pretty slow attempt compared to some I've seen.

Man, something about Hydrocity in Encore mode is rough. The partners seem to nom all the oxygen, I ended up losing all my guys in the space of a minute cause of it.
Just started Encore for the first time tonight. Man this game is a joy to play. Both Mighty and Ray have abilities that fit in well. Got to Press Garden before calling it quits for now.

mighty makes me happy because i used to play sonic megamix (rip) a long time ago
his thing in that game was that he could store shields, but i'd trade that for his 'be invincible and ground pound' any day
There was some Sonic or Sonic-esque game (Sonic Colors? Freedom Planet?) where the air bubbles in underwater sections were little bubbles on the floor that expanded around your character as soon as you stepped onto the spot, rather than being periodically released from the spot. I liked that way of doing the air bubbles.
After finishing Encore Mode with only 2 chaos emeralds I started to grind FBZ for the remaining emeralds. Took a little while to get 3-6 but man, 7 was a pain to get. Spent 45 minutes trying to get it only to call it quits and see a youtube guide. After that I finally nabbed the last one on my next try. I want to say I did it exactly as the guide did besides one crucial shortcut.
On the pinball stages, do the rings actually do anything? As far as I can tell, I have the same total when I go in as when I come out, even if I get some in the claw game.

Thank you Sonic Mania for reminding me of how much I hate Blue Sphere.
I cleared Mania mode with only two emeralds, partly because I can't find Special Stages for the life of me, and partly because holy crap these things are difficult. I can't even catch up to the UFO in stage 3 for some reason. I like the game a lot, but these bonus and special stages would make young me just fume.
Some general special stage advice that worked for me: Aside from multiple attempts so you can learn the route of a level, you want to spend the first lap getting blue spheres to get to mach 2 ASAP. Mach 2 is slightly faster than the UFO (but usually not enough to catch it unless your routing is really good), so you at least won't be losing ground. Once you've got that you can spend a lap focusing on rings to get more time, and taking shorter routes as they come.
Then once you get to mach 3 it's more about not losing control for long enough to catch up. Jumping helps on corners. You lose some speed but corner much faster, and it'll save you from going off the course a lot.
UFO always moves to get as far from you as possible. If you run backwards, it will detect that and start doing the same. If you wait, I imagine it will get to the farthest possible point and just wait there.
I managed that one first try (with 1 ring left).
But then I had significant trouble with the chicken guarding that Super Ring in FBZ (would've timed out if there were 10 min time outs), and the next stage I fell off trying to get bubbles that were off the stage on the first lap.
So it all evens out I guess.

I was very sleep deprived, it's possible I was switching to them right as they drowned. In a chain. Of all of em in a minute.
Also they changed the drowning music, what the hell?
People complained.

Because "Encore Mode" is a fancy way of saying "New Game +"
Ha, but no time-outs.
All the rings in every level will be mine!

What happens if you just go backwards.
Or wait for the UFO?
Then I tried for an hour to get the third Emerald in Encore.
Now the the Mania UFO stages are easy for me.

^that's been in my drafts for a good long while now, and I feel like we basically got there
They’ll need to completely rework the game to make it actually fun.
