Four mines don't do enough damage to mutas to kill them? Bah.
They would've if Life hadn't split his mutas so well.
There was definitely a point in the game where a flock of mutas were left alone and three mines hit the edge of the flock, killing off perhaps five?
Either the unpredictability of mines becomes loved like Reavers or hated unlike Reavers
It's cool if they're unpredictable and they do insane damage like a spider mine or reaver but it's kind of bleh when OOOOOOH DID IT HIT?!?! for 1/6 of a muta's health.

They oneshot mutas, its the splash that only does 40 dmg.

But I agree, I feel like spectator-wise, widow mines would be more exciting if they cost double, could not be reactored, and did something like 80-100 splash instead of 40.
So are there any other lower league players from WoL having a hard time with this game? I have a theory that maybe I'm having a more difficult time because the unranked gametype means a large portion of the lower league players stopped playing ranked, thus removing a lot of padding in the lower leagues and making competition harder.
Or I just suck. Any other low league players feel like competition is harder in the bronze, silver and gold?

Actually, I'm having a blast in Silver, which I can't really tell apart from Bronze. Also, I use Unranked to use off-races and fill their respective bars, because low-rank players love bar filling.
Close macro g1 to Life, zerg cheese handled well in g2, a couple of games won by big three base ling/bane busts, an impressively micro'd 2-rax victory, and another macro win to Life to close out the series.
I made a game! Hotline Maui. Requires mouse and keyboard.
Unranked play has the same MMR system that ranked has. Neither of them tells you your ELO rating, and unranked just hides your rank.
Unranked doesn't have leagues as a result, but they still count as part of the population as far as placing how good you are relative to the rest of the population.
Edit: On top of that I believe they shifted Bronze to Platinum to be 20% of the population each. So a large number of Bronze players should end up in Silver now, and Silvers to Gold, just from having their share of the population decreased.

Are you sure? So what you're saying is that the system still accounts for what peoples hidden mmr is in unranked when deciding what the league distribution is in ranked? That doesn't sound right to me. Like, right now bronze is supposed to be about 8 percent of the population. But according to your theory, only like 1 percent might actually be playing ranked and the other 7 would be playing unranked.
I doubt that's how it works. More likely, the MMR rankings are separate for both lists, and the 8 percent of lowest skilled player in unranked could be much different in skill level from the lowest 8 percent in ranked.

Nope. Yilias is correct. Your unranked play is essentially another account complete with its own independent MMR that participates in the region's ladder. The only difference between ranked and unranked play is that your unranked account is not placed into a particular league.

I think spoons is referrin to the fact that the system tries to achieve certain percentages in the leagues, and if a bunch of people only play unranked and dont bother with ranked, thats going to affect things
Lee "Life" Seung Hyun is a professional Zerg player from South Korea, who is currently playing for StarTale. Life reached the top level of the competitive scene at fifteen years of age, rising to prominence throughout 2012.
Flash came on to the Brood War scene as one of the youngest progamers to be televised at 14 years old, in 2007. His popularity skyrocketed when he won the 2008 Bacchus OSL at age 15, crushing Stork 3-0 in the finals.
Pretty exciting.

Any change to percentiles for Silver, Platinum, and Diamond?
And we're saying that unranked players exist within a league as a percentile of an MMR population, their league is simply invisible/unapplied to them.
Where did all the Terrans go?
I'm still skeptical that this is the way it works. Anybody have any evidence on this? I'm still thinking the percentages are based off each league separately.
But yeah I definitely saw a couple of major hits to the center of a mass ling packs where it didn't kill them.
It's possible the targetted ling was near the back and the explosion animation just lagged a bit compared to the ling speed but weird...
I think a couple of times the mines were targeting the muta above the 'lings instead, so all it got was a muta or two depending on how damaged they were in the first place.

Ah yeah that might be it! I think I noticed a few widow mines that would hit air or ground, and the splash only affect air or ground, it doesn't splash both simultaneously.
That series started off great, but it was disappointing that Flash didn't adapt to Life's three base ling/bling bust. He could have gotten tanks out instead, or kept his army at his third instead of walking out on the map, or probably a number of other things. It was distinctly unFlash-like the way that he got caught by the same thing three times in the same series.
To be honest we've not really had the opportunity to see Flash have to react to a new game on the fly, we've only see him be amazing at games that are fairly settled by the time he came into them.

It looks like Life had Flash's number.
He noticed Flash rarely ever makes tanks, so he did bane/ling all-in both times.
THAT is why Flash lost those games. No tanks.
Also, I'd say this is the MVP of the friggin' forums:

Pretty exciting.
The first game was great, with lots of run-and-gun battles all over the map.
Life certainly makes me want to get online and cover maps with roaming packs of lings.

Even when they hit, around 2-3 times the lings didn't die, which is what @Kambing pointed out earlier.
It's kind of weird why they didn't die.
Even with 40 splash they still should've died even at 3-3.

You'd have to be wicked fast but it'd be bad ass for anyone to pull off.
edit: wicked fast? what the fuck is wrong with me
You'd have to do it as soon as it's ready though.
Maybe folk just haven't tried it?

Nothing to apologize for, amigo.
This is the same reason why I lose games.
