finally getting back into playing Xenoblade after switching over to my Wii U and losing my 12 hour or so save. About 10 hours in so far, just finished up the ether mines under colony 6.
Do.. people usually play as anyone other than Shulk? I'm liking playing as him, and think I might stick with him, Reyn and Sharla
They all work so well together. Though I guess I haven't really tried any of the other characters yet.
Also I still barely understand the skill system.
Like, you can choose which path to get xp in, and unlock the skills as you go, but then you can use coins to select a skill from another character to use on that character?
I liked to play Melia and Riki too. Sharla and Reyn aren't that much fun to play, especially Sharla.
So characters have skill trees and earn points down them. That's all self-contained.
Using skills from other characters is based around having coins from defeating unique monsters, and building affinity between characters. Don't worry about building affinity until late game, you gain a decent amount of it just playing.
Melia is really powerful when you control her directly. I like playing her when there's no Mechons around to kill. Like captaink said, Sharla and Reyn are pretty boring to play.
Yeah, don't worry too much about building affinity through battle. If you really want to worry about it now, just make sure you have different people as leaders/followers when accepting and turning in quests.
Forced myself to finish Assassin's Creed this weekend, as it was a gift from a friend. After "well, the game has been all about stealth, but hey, we're a the end so just keep killing waves of 20 guys at once." I needed something to wash the taste out of my mouth. I fired up some Dragon's Dogma....and wound up playing all weekend after starting over. I'm not sure how I managed to win Caxton's heart in my last playthrough, but there was a chubby love stricken bearded man on the beach with my pawn. So when is the next coming out with true multiplayer, because I want to crawl all over flying dragons with my pals.
Another plus in the Dragon's Dogma column? It's helping me put off playing more of FF13: Corridor of the Long Ass Tutorial.
I've seen Gamestop pull some bullshit but this is some bullshit.

I've been playing Xenoblade recently; it's a pretty solid game, and WAY bigger than I first thought, though equipment and gem optimization is kind of tedious.

Define monopoly.
I despise gamestop and their model, but this is not a monopoly at all
you can get the game on ebay and amazon for pretty similar prices
it's a super rare collectors game now, just like the others I listed above
Nintendo is producing copies, which are exclusive to Gamestop, which Gamestop then opens and sells as used for $90
they are in fact new copies.
Is there any actual proof of this, or is it just poor people whining about how stuff isn't free?
Kotaku cites anonymous Gamestop sources, and they have several anecdotal testimonies of people saying everything in there is as mint as if the game was sealed, with unclaimed Club Nintendo keys.

yes a single "source" leaked that to kotaku
Also the confirmed fact that recently there were no copies of the game available there, new or used, and all of a sudden they have tons of used copies just hanging around.

or they could have just been holding them for a planned sale
or there could have been a big sell off considering they were paying well for it????
Apparently the copies come with some card that has a one time use, most people are reporting that the cards have never been used. That said, they contol the supply and there is a demand sooooo. Yeah.
Where are you in it? It's quite possible that it's even bigger than you think even now.
Just found the machina on the fallen arm, I'm starting to wonder if there are seriously as many zones on the Mechonis as there were on the Bionis (please no spoilers, I want to find out on my own).
One thing I wouldn't mind having spoiled is whether the game will clearly telegraph when the Alcamoth (or whatever High Entia town was called) quests are about to become unavailable, since all the timed quests there make me really apprehensive about advancing the plot.

Alternately, this may just be Gamestop trying to set up some weird third-party version of the Disney Vault; buying up games that were made in short supply and then sitting on them to increase demand and then releasing them in a big wave and thus maintaining a pretty sizable amount of price control over the short term.
It's not that much less skeezy, but I think it's important to know what kind of skeeze is being dealt out.

But really I am super glad that I bought that game straight from Nintendo when it was released, without even owning a Wii, because I figured I would get one at some point and heard the game was going to be impossible to find later on down the road.

wow xenoblade is expensive, I've been loving the series since xenogears, I wish I had the money for that, also I've been drawing alot of rpg webcomics you can see them in my signature below i've made way to many chrono trigger webcomics
Gamestop was offering like $40 for Xenoblade when Bioshock Infinite came out. I know that's where my copy went, and i t wouldn't surprise me if they just redistributed the trades to places where demand was highest.

Just got Melia and Rikki
Took me a minute to figure out that you can use Melias discharge ability when it is grayed out. Was wondering why I wasn't able to do much with her, and even then, I'm still not super sure what I'm doing. I looked up a video on how to use her.
No idea on what Rikki's deal is, since I haven't used him yet. I'm finally past the areas that I had gotten to in my last playthrough, I think I had just gotten barely past colony 6 before I stopped, so everything on this playthrough had been really familiar, so seeing new stuff is cool. Makna forest is cool.

Pretty sure I had 100 hours into it before I finished back in college
It's a proper Dragon Quest game for sure.
And 9 still isn't as much as either of the DQM: Jokers.

the gawker of the videogame world
