Mercenaries. Vigilantes. Heroes. Problems. Five of the most influential adventurers in Khorvaire. You're called a lot of things by a lot of people. One thing everyone can agree on? You're extraordinary.

This is the out-of-character/discussion/character creation/general housekeeping thread for The Extraordinaries, a PbP game using the Dungeons & Dragons Fourth Edition rules. By being generous and donating money to sick children,
@Stilts won a Solid Saints auction that allowed him to pick a game and have me run it, which he did. He got to pick the party too, which he did.
So
@Stilts,
@Pony,
@Dubh,
@Dichotomy, and
@Caulk Bite 6, it's time to get your characters set up. You can use either Myth-Weavers or Orokos for your sheets, I don't care which.
Technical Details
-You're level 11.
-Standard 22-point buy for stats.
-We are using Inherent Bonuses.
-Standard starting wealth: (1) Level 12 Item, (1) Level 11 Item, (1) Level 10 Item, 5000 gp.
-All Eberron and general material is allowed. Stuff that's specific to another setting (Spell Scars, Defilers, Thri-Kreen, etc) is not.
Go ahead and start building those characters. I'm available for questions and technical help. I'll start the game shortly after everyone is satisfied with their PCs.

i'm confused about this
When comparing your Inherent Bonus to the enhancement bonus granted by a magic item, you always use the better of the two.
very situational, but still tempting. Also Sharn is a thing.
hm.
Except for encumbrance. I don't ever bother with that because we're not playing Dungeons & Donkeys.
But otherwise yeah, there's going to be some crazy stuff happening.
Oh thank God!
I once had a GM who made us figure out the weight of a horde of gold pieces we had acquired after killing the monster that had gathered it.
We had to put it into sacks and drag it around with a cart in order to actually use it to buy stuff.
Also, I uploaded my character sheet. I can use Dragonshards on implements, right?
Now to start working on a physical description of my character.

I took Belt of Blood as my level 10 item and bought Cloak of the Walking Wounded +2. Belt of Blood lets you add your con mod to healing surges if you're bloodied and the cloak lets you expend two healing surges (gaining hp from both) on a second wind, while bloodied.
I have 95hp and 10 con mod, and my normal surge value is 23. if I get put down to a third of my health, I can second wind for 66hp, or roughly back to full.

Zeel's scale texture and color is similar to that of an iguana. He has identical frills, too, which start at the back of his head and grow smaller until they vanish halfway down his tail. His eyes are red like fire, and a scar runs horizontally along the left side his neck thanks to an unfortunate encounter with an arrow trap.
He wears teal robes (like this) and wears the ritual knife he found as a necklace. Both the blade and hilt of the knife are carved from stone; the hilt has the shape of a simple, highly-symbolized dragon.
There's totally needleguns introduced in an issue of dragon, but they're outside my price range, and probably don't fit in with the setting.

oh fuck I just realised something
I was looking at my con check, not the mod. I didn't think that looked right
still, +56 health from bloodied is great anyway.
if you're creative enough
Good stat distribution, very nice choice of feats and skills, and you picked some of the absolute best Cleric abilities for those levels (Sacred Flame, Bane, Astral Condemnation, and Consecrated Ground). Your NADs aren't so great, but that's inevitable when playing a WIS-CHA cleric.
That build'll do fine, Dich.
well that's awfully crass
I initially considered just typing out the whole phrase.
But then I decided the acronym is just way too fun to not use.
So I retooled this a bit, since posting it. could use a critiquing.
From an outsider's perspective, I'd probably looks into dropping Skill Training (Dungeoneering) and picking up a background that gives you the same thing (the ability to pick Dungeoneering as a class skill) so that it frees you up a feat for something that has a bit more heft.
Though you'd likely have to move some trainings around to take advantage of it, depending.

I'd replace Weapon Focus (Crossbow) for Crossbow Expertise. In virtually all circumstances, gaining a bonus on your attack roll is better than gaining an equal bonus on your damage. Plus, the expertise feat lets you ignore partial and superior cover with your crossbow attacks.
I'm also not so sure about Far Shot. With Crossbow Savant, you've already got a range of 15 squares on your hand crossbow, which is pretty large. While being able to attack from very long ranges can be nice, you also generally want to stick close to the party (you don't want to outrange the cleric, after all). That said, it does fit with your backstory really well and could be situationally useful, so I'm not gung-ho about dumping it.
Other than that, it looks good.
EDIT: Beaten so hard.
