Something like that happened to me, I got to a new area, and got killed in combat, but I must have crossed some line that made a new checkpoint during combat, because when I reloaded, the game put me a little past were all the guys I died fighting were, and they were nowhere to be seen.
This game makes me want to upgrade my video card too. I mean, I've got a 560ti which is just fine for most things. Most games I don't really care if I'm not able to put it on "ultimate" settings or whatever. But the absolutely every bit of this game makes me want to be on ultra max super ultimate settings. I can only muster "high" settings and it's still great, but those 2 fps of maxed out graphics look fantastic, if otherwise unplayable.
But I can't afford any upgrades right now! Waaaaaaa!
I have that same video card, and while it can't handle everything cranked up to ultra settings, so far it's been able to handle the textures and world detail on ultra while everything else is at high (and the fancy hair physics are off).
For me that strikes the right balance between "oh my god the pretty" and "oh my god I'm playing a slideshow".

One incredibly neat bad guy dialogue moment, towards the end
in the building en route to rescuing Alex in the Endurance wreck, there are 3 guys trying to raise an engine part up or something. One of em is mouthing off, and the others are like "calm down brother" and he says something like "I'm not your fucking brother!"

I shall try this tonight! I was planning on messing around with it at some point so thanks very much for the tip.
Unskippable credits nooooooo. I force-closed it, so if there's anything after, I missed it, although I doubt there is.
Finale spoilers:
Holding one unmodded pistol and one cranked up, extended mag, silenced hellkicker looked kind of silly.
When Lara tells the tale of this adventure, she will say, "and then there was an explicitly labeled point of no return, and I went and committed genocide against the island's deer population to obtain enough ingested cogs to upgrade my bow. And it was good."
All the other characters were kind of dull, predictable and one-note, but Lara was rad. Looking forward to a sequel, though I don't know what the hell they'll call it.
GUYS! I don't believe it, after heaping praise on this game post after post, I've hit a game ending glitch! I'm on the boat after the 'little rat' fight and my rope ascender gear is broken, I yank the wooden chest in the air, but it stays there floating I the air! It will not drop! I'm heartbroken. I'm on 360.
I really, really enjoy the combat system in this game and the way it flows so well. Infinitely more interesting than any other third person shooter.
They do a really good job at not only the animation really selling things, but also the sound design. You can almost always hear her breathing, whether to add tension to sneaking or hyperventilating during huge shootouts. It's pretty bitchin
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

So, is thread title accurate at all? or just a funny title?

yeah that's another thing that really adds to it. devs need to pay more attention to stuff like this. every animation and sound in the combat is well thought out and awesome.
Unless this info is out there already in relation to the new reboot it'll probably be Tomb Raider: Quest to finish dead dads lifelong ambition and have many flashbacks.

So, some people here are experiencing inconsistancy between the action and the cutscenes? As in, Laura just feels like a different character in each.
Its not something I specifically noticed while playing, though im not that far. As far as I can tell, she has been pretty okay with killing these guys since the start, and I don't think that being scared/caring about people is mutually exclusive with being merciless towards these island predators.
I guess her efficiency in combat can be a little jarring, but its pretty heavily implied that she has had a decent ammount of survival training before coming to the island, right?
Id like to write a bit more when I finish the game (and when im not typing on a phone). Consistancy of character is a pretty interesting concept in TR and I would be curious to hear what people think about it.

Don't worry, the cutscene Lara catches up to the gameplay Lara later on. And it's spectacular.

The impression I get about her is that she isn't having emotional difficulty from the killing. Her emotional difficulty regarding killing is that she doesn't have emotional difficulty. For the rest of it, she's cold, she's alone, she has an island full of crazies trying to kill her, and she's just discovered something horrific about herself (that it's easy for her to kill people).
I'm good with that.
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.
Ok so I see now why everyone was raving about the helicopter bit, that was great.
Also about the bit after it
Roth has a badass death, but someone please tell me the final pistol upgrade is dual pistols. The long shots hanging over them while he says "you're a Croft" was awesome

That was how I read that situation too, it wasn't kill dude and have a breakdown. it was have a REALLY shitty day that ended up with a dead dude and that not being the worst part of it.

So how would you guys feel about co opting the storylines of the older games in sequels?
A shot for shot remake would be super redundant what with Anniversary, but I wouldn't mind that whole scion and Natla mythos appearing in a Tomb Raider 2 in some form or another.
A Larson type rival raider would be lovely too.
Actually just more Uncharted style characterization overall.
I only just noticed that one of their crewmembers is named "Jonah"
Well jeez, no wonder your damn ship crashed Lara

Frankly I think the series went to complete shit after the first game. I'd rather they not even bother. It didn't get good again until Crystal Dynamics picked it up with Legends.
Hell, like half of Tomb Raider 2 is Lara running around Venice, Italy and a submarine.
Like, do you play because shooting mans is fun, or do you play because you wanna see what happens next?
A little from column A, A little from column B.
Combat is solid and honestly fun, Story is not terrible, set pieces are over the top and just the right kind of cheesy.
Great game. Lara feels human and relatable in a character sense, but is unbelievably capable in a gameplay sense. A lot of her unlockable abilities are smart and feel logical, but aren't just buffs to make her a better shot (though that's handed through weapon upgrades.) The world feels teeming with stuff to find and do. The marriage of brutal, gritty survival with over the top action seems like it should not work, but it totally does. Hat's off to the developers, they made a good one.
Oh and new Lara Croft is basically Ellen Riply + Indiana Jones. If that doesn't sound like a protagonist you'd like to spend time with, you are already dead to me.

Aaaand I'm stuck.
I'm in Chasm Temple or something like that, just passed the big fight with the Oni chumps. There's a cage in the center of the room, 2 cranks on either side. I've opened the grate, raised the cage, pulled the cage to smash the rocks on the ceiling, closed the grate, dropped the cage, now I'm stuck. I don't seem to be able to make the jump from the roof of the cage onto the wall I need to climb to progress?
Tried using the cage to smash the lower door too, no dice.

And they shoot him.
One less bad guy in the ensuing fight.

Tomb Raider 2?
Just a guess.
UPDATE! I clipped through the floor! After 20 minutes this worked for me!
