Looking for game suggestions for my 2.5 year old.

I've been contemplating whether or not to get my son his first game. I've got a Wii and an XBox 360. He's gotten somewhat adept at using Netflix for Wii, though I'd prefer he play on the XBox 360 since he hasn't gotten the hang of aiming the Wii remote yet, and I don't want the Wii remote being used as a cudgel.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for his first game. He's a big fan of Sesame Street, and I was thinking I could pick up a Sesame Street game for the XBox 360 really cheap.

There are a couple of Double Fine Kinect games that are probably your best bet for a kid that age. Once Upon a Monster is a Sesame Street game. They've also got a grab-bag of "cool effects you can do with the Kinect" which is called Kinect Party. (There was also an earlier iteration on the concept called Double Fine Happy Action Theater -- you can get all the content of that one as DLC for Kinect Party now.)

At around that age I was able to play a tiny bit of Mario Bros. 3, and even though I was naturally not very good at it I still had fun with it. So anything with simple controls (probably not pointing yet, I dunno) should be a good bet. The last time a thread like this showed up around here, pretty much everybody recommended Kirby's Epic Yarn for the Wii because that should fit the bill. It's simple and you literally cannot die in it, so it's a good bet for any little kid!

I was thinking about starting this thread in a few months - my son turned 2 in October. Sadly, he's touchscreen native and isn't as good with controlers.

I'm glad to see the Epic Yarn suggestion, although the Wii remote is, in my son's mind, the Elmo delivery device, so I don't know if he'll get that it does other things on the TV for a little while.

Touchscreen are the future friend :)

    I'm in a similar boat.
My son is amazing with my wife's iphone. I have him doing some basic keyboarding, simple mazes and pressing buttons together.
He loves Once Upon a Monster but that's with me playing and him watching.

Unfortunately, I don't have any touchscreen devices. Though this may be for the best, as my son tends to have rather messy hands that leave big smudges on everything. Also, I want a somewhat study device, as you never know when he might start hurling things. That kind of leaves iPads out, as they were not meant to be used as frisbees.
I tried finding one of the pre-Kinect Sesame Street games for XBox at my local Gamespot with no luck. I have some credit on Amazon, so I may use that to get a Kinect and some Sesame Street games. My concern though is whether the Kinect will pick up on my munchkin, as he's rather small.

My son's first games were Elmo's A to Zoo Adventure, Minecraft, and something else I'm forgetting. Minecraft was (and still is) definitely his favorite, though, so I'd give that a try (it's on XBLA, though my son plays the PC version). The Elmo game has a Wii version (as well as a PC and DS version, which we also have, though I don't think it has an Xbox port).
