Victoria British Columbia, Gaming stuffff

I am moving there in about 3-4 weeks, permanently (well i hope permanently.)

Anyone here know the area well? Specifically looking for more gaming related hang-outs and things. I know Vancouver has the EXP bar which was a cool place. I've been down johnson street ect. But is there anything else to see there this way? Anything along the lines of EXP? Or any good tips? Lay em on me.

Oh boy, something I actually know something about! Well first of all, there are quite a few game stores around, all of which have weekly events probably every day of the week. I've only actually been to one of them personally, so I don't know much about most of them, but one of my friend's favorite stores is Yellowjacket Comics so I'd go there. UVic has its own Games Club that meets every Saturday from 6 PM to... whenever people leave I guess! They also help connect people to create gaming groups (DnD, etc.-- this has been the primary thing I've made use of them for since my DnD games now overlap with their meetings) so I would totally join the club (they naturally have a Facebook group that you can get yourself invited to, appropriately titled UVic Games Club) and start showing up. It's cool if you're not going to UVic because they're perfectly happy with community members!

Let's see, uhh... I honestly ought to explore the city a bit more, haha. There's an arcade I keep seeing in Downtown that I've never actually been into, and there's actually this cool little restaurant also in the Downtown area called Chef's Quest that is sort of fantasy/gaming themed that I REALLY need to check out but haven't been into yet since I don't live right next to there anymore. I hear they're really delicious and affordable and excellent and they need all the support they can get. Other than that, I've noticed that there seems to be an odd number of people from Victoria on this fine internet lately, especially from these very forums, so I'm sure somebody else can supply you with more information if need be. :P That's just all the stuff I can think of off the top of my head, and I haven't even explored very much myself.

Oh, actually, one more thing... there used to be two yearly conventions in Victoria, but as of last year there was actually a third one! GottaCon and Tsukino-con (technically an anime con, but they also take over an entire building for gaming of all sorts) happened earlier this month, while Con-centric (a new con headed up by the Games Club) happened for the first time in November. Tsukino-Con and Con-centric both happen on UVic's campus and are free for UVic students, while GottaCon was held at the convention center near Tillicum Mall, which is sort of on the other side of things (in my mind). They've all had pretty nice attendance and everything, so... good stuff! Also, if you know LoadingReadyRun, Victoria is their home base (and one of my friends apparently visited Desert Bus For Hope while it was going-- it overlapped with Con-centric). They had a couple panels at Tsukino-con this year, one of which I went to, and that was good times.

(Feel free to PM me... Always happy to talk to new people, especially from PA!)

Edit: Oh yeah... there's technically a Pokemon club (which I haven't gotten into because I snubbed Pokemon after Gold/Silver) that seems to have nice people in it, and there's also a Smash Bros./other video games club, but I didn't really like the crowd it seemed to attract so I never tried them out. But those clubs are relevant to your stated interests, of course.

Oh nice ! Thanks for the info. I am def gonna check that restaurant out. I HAVE been to yellowjacket before as well, it's pretty sweet. I am not really into Pokemon at all, I don't even know anything about it other than I played a gameboy one as a kid, honestly it's never really floated my boat much as an adult. D&D I am interested in, though im no pro with it and I sold all my old 3rd ed books years ago. GottaCon seems cool, my cousin from Van went to it and said it was great, I didn't have the time/money to go though myself, but living there will likely change that for next time. I am very interested in this arcade though, where downtown is it? I do know generally where stuff is in downtown. I will be living in James Bay by the way, takes about 5 minutes or so to get to downtown by bus/car from where I will be.

There's an arcade built into the Empire theatres. It used to be Johnny Zee's, is now owned by the theatre. There's nothing really I know of that is on par with the EXP bar, though.

Empire Theatres? Alright well that's something. I don't know where that is but Google is my friend.
