I meant the avatar but words no come out good sometimes
although I guess a couple of upcoming spotpass characters could change that? Or Miriel or (shudder) Nowi, since serenes forest doesn't have the full list yet
There's that, but honestly most of the cast is pretty one-note until you find the one or two conversations where they really shine.
I personally think the male avatar support with her is pretty great! It was nice to see another support that changed completely depending on avatar gender. Finding those have been pretty nice surprises so far!
I'm just saying she's kind of one-note with how limited her supports are
Fair enough.
Speaking of one note, I've been really impressed with Henry's supports.
Apparently, in the Japanese version, his sunny disposition and lovable murderous quips are covering up Deep Emotional Trauma. Stateside, they cut that, and left us with "He's just a naturally sunny and murderous person". Which could have left him, well, one note. More fun, but one note.
But he's got a brilliant mixture of actual, well, nice with his murderous glee. It's a bizarre little mix that you don't see much, and it is constantly entertaining.

I thought it was really weird how the Henry/Olivia support hinted at that and then sort of...did nothing with it.
Too bad they left that out, sounds a bit more interesting.

They left in a bunch of really shitty stuff happening to him, if you look at, say, his supports with Churche.
Family was scared of him and never loved him, his one friend, a wolf, was killed by villagers (so he murdered the lot of them, you know how it goes), he scared the shit out of everyone at the magic academy he went to, which meant no real friends...
But the difference, from what I've read, seems to be that in the Japanese version his whole shtick is covering for emotional insecurity, while stateside his voodoo comes mixed with natural pep, and that carried him through hale and hardy.
I think I like the second better. You see "Really emotionally vulnerable, on the inside" all the time in these things. You see "No, I'm pretty much fine, thanks for asking. I just really like murder" much less often.
just feels kinda weird to be dragging around a guy who genuinely loves slaughtering people and animals just for the hell of it.
... I sort of miss when dark mages were scientist-y types instead of all deranged.
He loves slaughtering people for the hell of it. Animals, he generally likes.
And, say what you will about the man, he follows orders better'n almost anyone else in the army. Tell him "civilian casualties are unacceptable!" and he'll risk his life to save the lowliest farmer. As long as he gets to kill something, he is on the job.
Chapter 7 just slaughtered me. After the third restart I stopped caring about losing units and just brute-forced my way to victory. Two questions: is there a better way to restart than hitting the home button and closing the game? Also, why should I ever use Donnel. I just got him and he seems incredibly useless.

In order:
Chapter 7 is nasty, yes. The spawns are the worst bit.
Hit L+R+start
He starts weak, but once he gets to a real class instead of villager, Donnel is going to be a godsend. Not quite the murder machine the Avatar or some others can be in the end, but he goes from useless to devastating in a hurry.
So I just finished chapter 10 in my "restart" (restarted after chapter 6 thanks to all the tips in this thread, thanks!).
I spent a LOT more effort ensuring I had the correct supports from the beginning, and have ended up with 4 "S" ranks by about Chapter 8. I went with what I assumed (based on the character interactions) were default supports:
Avatar -> Lissa
Chrom -> Sumia
Virion -> Sully
Lon'qu -> Miriel (Okay, this one was more because I wanted to see Robot Man and Robot Woman together)
What a difference it makes in the game! It went from having some chapters where I had no choice to restart as the Avatar/Chrom were dying all the time, to the point where I feel more comfortable going after some of the chapter's special points (sparklies, characters, etc).
The only issue that I seem to have is a supreme shortage of seals, both Master and Second. Lon'qu and Chrom are both pushing level 15-16 now, and a few others are only behind by a level or two. Is it a big deal that I don't switch people to another class/master class at the appropriate time, or should I just enjoy the powerful characters, and just use seals when they come?
Thanks a lot for all the tips and tricks in here, it's really made my game much more enjoyable
I file all of the characters like Anna, Tiki, Flavia, Say'ri, etc. who don't have full supports into the useless category gameply-wise. I figure the game gives them to you in case you've lost units and you need some subpar ones in order to have enough to continue fighting. Same with the DLC characters. Even if they have good stats, their lack of support possibilities really hampers their pair-up, dual guard, dual attack usefulness.
Some playthrough I will need to marry Anna and a male avatar though, because the way she has her finger on her chin is way too adorable. My girlfriend thinks she's the best character in the game (well, her, Olivia, and Nowi) based purely on cuteness. Unfortunately, I just want to roll people with my godly creations and have no time to consider who's a good match based on looks/personality. But at some point I think I'll do a playthrough like that, where I pair people up/use characters based not on gameplay but on compatibility.

I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of seals. The game doesn't give them to you in ready supply until later, so by delaying switching everyone's classes (either with a Second or a Master Seal) you are just following the game design. By waiting until later, anyway, they'll have higher stats when you do switch them. Also, for your first playthrough, I would personally not focus too much on min/maxing and just enjoy the story, characters, and gameplay. There's time later to try to break the game!

I have my own established system for RPG's. First playthrough is like you mentioned, where I enjoy the story, characters and gameplay. Some light min/maxing, because how can you resist!
If the game gets it's hooks into me, the second playthrough begins with charts, graphs, research and detailed notes about progression. I get the sneaking suspicion that this game will get the second playthrough
Of course, of course. That's the only way to fly in my book. Usually when I try to min/max the first playthrough it gets really tedious. I guess I would say if there are any characters you really like then it could be worthwhile to either promote or second seal them to another class if there are any skills you may want. For instance, if You would like to move Lon'Qu around because you enjoy playing him, there's nothing wrong in using a seal on him. You WILL get more seals later, so saving them isn't doing you any good, either.

Question to those who downloaded this straight from the eshop: About how long did it take you to download? I don't have wireless at home so I'm kinda using my phone's 4G as a hotspot so it had me curious

Took me about 10 - 15 minutes. It varies depending on distance and time of day usually for most wireless downloads.

I can't believe Lissa doesn't have a relationship support with
Lucina.
I was looking forward to amusing conversations between Future Niece and her Aunt.
So was I. The really weird thing is, Lissa's one of the people she should be closest to. Chrom's sister is on the very short list of confirmed survivors in the dark future. An uncle support wouldn't be bad either, if only for the chance at more of Henry's lovable psychosis.
Of course, for sheer entertainment, the one I wanted most was a Morgan and Lucina support (Non-sibling, non-parent, non-romantic). Their parents were best friends, and Lucina's dedication to the task at hand would bounce off Morgan's airheaded charm brilliantly.
New DLC is up, lost bloodlines 3 and a Smash Pack($6), including Smash Bretheren 1(Out now) and Smash Bretheren 2 and 3. Smash Bretheren 1 is available for single purchase for $3.25(I think? I dont remember the exact prices but its around there)

Ooooh, excellent. Can't wait to get the Bride item and really trick out Severa!
Also... Infinite Regalia is no joke. Most of my A-list has either promoted or re-classed at least once, and are all in the 10-15s of their newest class. This map just pwns me non-stop. Does this thing require everyone to be level 20 (after promotions, etc)?

High levels and Brave everything. I had some trouble the first couple times, but it seems a bit easier now.
So how long is this game? I'm at chapter 15. I'm hoping I have a lot more to go or the level farming I've done will have made the game really really easy.

You have a fair amount left, but yes you will have made the game really really easy. My first time through (on hard) I had one of the children solo the last seven or eight maps.
If you're really curious, the last chapter is
26.
I think hard mode, no DLC, no risen maps would yield just about the ideal difficulty.
I'm okay with farming a bit. The game itself is satisfying, it builds supports, and it allows someone like Lon'qu to dodge and then crit an entire army, which is always hilarious. I imagine it like a movie where he's in a circle of henchman and they come at him one at a time.
I'm also not good at this game, but you know, fun is important. And I have fun watching entire armies fall to one perfectly placed dude.
Okay, so I've reset Chapter 11 probably 8 times now on this Hard run. Every single reset? Reinforcements that spawned and attacked same round. Am I supposed to just keep a notepad and pencil to write down exactly what reinforcements spawn in each turn and what weapons they have, then reset so I can be prepared? Because that feels like cheating to me, but I'm not getting anywhere with what I'm doing now.
I guess if I just forgo the two chests and sit in the upper-left corner across the river with most of my army, sit on the forts so that merc with the armorslayer doesn't spawn, and have my power units run interference with the wyvern riders, then I can just wait the mission out defensively?

I'm pretty sure that's the intended strategy.
Early in the mission, Gangrel says something like "When they run down recklessly, we'll crush them." I think that's your cue to turtle up a bit.
