Ok. There is a test going on. And I' about to leave so rushed a thread.
Got to the star catalog. List by cost.
They have 1000 Wii points on sale for 789 stars (??) - a fixed number too only about 1400 available.
"wiipoint 1000 zum 2 Astrid test"
So it looks like they may add star points soon.
I took a chance and bought it anyhow (as I have 5000 odd points) and so who knows what will happen. Hopefully they will honour it. I'm leaving for the weekend and the test only has a finit number (which you can buy once it appears) so I'm sure all the proper points will be gone by the time I'm next with the internet.
Star points are a european thing. You earn them for registering your games IIRC, basically like clipping those Kool-Aid points or boxtops or UPCs or what have you.
It's a shame the virtual console is a fucking shitheap in Europe. It's like the last ten years of 60hz progression in gaming never happened. At least give me the option of buying the US version, instead of the arse-backwards pal version, complete with slowdown.
Ill bet the value of star points, when you go through buying Wii points with them, works out exactly the same as the markup from American prices that us Europeans have to pay.
Most games come with 250 or 500 star points for free.
Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary
opinion is wishful thinking at its worst.

Haha. Check, gin and yachtze my friends.
The exchange ratio has allready been announced: 1 Wii point for 4 star points.
Also: you get new star points for every VC game you buy. How many is not yet clear.
They also had three months free for nintendo power for getting three games registered. If they disn't exclude it from being a one time deal, I would have 30 issues coming to me now.

I think the best we got in US was a Metroid Prime 2: Echoes demo for registering three or so games.
The Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask Gamecube disc might have also been available as well.
The Zelda disc and the magazines were okay, the MP disc is nice, but hardly exciting. What else was there, the pink stylus? Blech. It's really irksome how little they've done with it.
Getting copies of Zelda was really good, but I missed out on it. But yeah, they've all but neglected to really do anything with the program. I think you unlock wallpapers and assorted crap, but nothing really anyone cares about.
Honestly, a small amount of Wii Points would be a great idea.

I got the pink style when I imported Touch! Kirby (Kirby Canvas Curse in US), so that was irrevalant.

I have thousands of Star Points waiting for a day like this, where they can actually be redeemed for something with value. But I registered my account when I was 13 and I can't remember my embarrassing password which probably contains something like nitrothunder777 and the 'forgot your password?' link doesn't work.

I wish I got Wii Points for registering my shit.
Last thing I got was 3 copies of Nintendo Power. Bleh.
I see nothing in the catalogue either, sounds like this was a test of the system that wasn't meant to go public and has been pulled back.
Also note that if you linked your accounts then in your stars section under 'My Stars' you should be able to in the future get stars for downloading the internet and voting channels.
Remember, you get five Star points every day you login to the Nintendo site, so it might be worth popping in once a day just to rack up some extra points for when this is finally implemented. Assuming it is 1 Wii point for 4 Star points it works out to about 500 Wii Points per year, which is enough for a free NES game for hardly any effort.

So I lurk here a lot. And having nothing better to spend my (over 11,000) star points on decided to give this a try. Nothing happened for a while, but I just got this email:
Dear Nintendo fan,
Last Friday we have been running internal tests in the Stars Catalogue on our website. Unfortunately, because of a mistake during the testing phase, the Wii Points item accidentally appeared on the website between 4pm and 8pm.
We noticed that you have accessed the Stars Catalogue during this testing period, and that you spent 789 Stars on the item, without getting any Wii Points in return.
First of all, we want to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
This item is not available in the Stars Catalogue, and the price of 789 stars used during the testing period was entirely random.
However, we understand that this may have caused a disappointment. So, as we know how committed you are to Nintendo - and given the exceptional circumstances - we decided to electronically send you 1000 Wii points, if you'd like that. In case you do not want to get these Wii Points, we will of course reimburse the amount of Stars you spent.
Please allow us some time to properly prepare the opportunity for you to choose between Wii Points or Stars. You will receive a follow-up email from us soon, so please keep an eye on your inbox.
Yeah i just got this email as well! wicked! I think i'll buy a link to the past when they come through. I fully expected that Nintendo would just reimburse the stars, good on them for actually sending out the wii points.
Kudos for Nintendo being awesome. Finally those stars bag me something useful!
Might treat myslef to lttp as I have it on gba but would like it on on the big screen - as then, via the collectors edition I would have all home console 'proper' Zelda games.
Though I may go for some more snes/mega drive randomness.
I hope they do this for real soon. And in unlimited quantities too. A 1000 point = 1000 stars conversion would be perfect - but I expect 2000 stars would be more likely.

Only Europeans get star points.
The thread title isn't totally clear, but based on the OP I think you can buy Wii points with your Star points, not the other way around.
See, Europe, you DO get stuff everyone else doesn't. Not very much of it, but still.
Blah, Nintendo.

Oh, not really. They have star points in Japan as well but they can actually reimburse them for high quality stuff. Limited edition GBAs and things.
