I'm in the camp of voted for the Woods, will play on any of the three.

As for plots, I'm also fine with any, though will gladly take any of the river based ones so I can have all the pretty bridges.

Yeah, I'll play on whatever map, whatever plot, since I'm going for a college town it won't really matter, though, if you put me on water or rail, it might be better for you guys as your people can more easily get to me for that sweet sweet learnin.

After watching the Casino City video, that's totally what i want to do.

Reading through the specializations all of them sound fun. I think I'll just roll with whatever fits with my plot/other cities in my cluster.

Hmmm, I'm wondering if I can make a scale model of my city (aprox 45k people) and see if it goes to hell like the real life version does. Would there be enough room to put all the streets together? I basically know the whole town like the back of my hand.

The city is only 2km x 2km, but you could likely capture the general layout of your city, just not every small side street.

I live in a smallish (20k pop) town. I'm totally trying to duplicate it.

Then I will destroy it and rebuild it as a sinful casino megalopolis.

Also, is there any chance of making larger lots? Or are they all the same 2km x 2km size? Are my hopes of creating a sprawling Los Angeles wasteland totally dashed?

Right now its not possible, but Ocean has said that it can be expected in the future. But that future could be an expansion, or it could be SimCity 2. Basically, a game has to be able to play all its content at the minimum spec requirements, so, they either need to figure out a way to make glassbox more efficient, or wait for acceptable min-req computers to get more powerful, since the larger maps wouldn't just be a performance setting, but actual game content (as they'd have their own leaderboards and challenges and everything).

Basically, you just need to look at this like a brand new game, the base from which a new series will evolve. It'll just take some time.

This conversation made me look up the old town I grew up in. Only 6k people, it is totally doable and I think I'm gonna try it. Will need to take liberties on account of being along a river, but still.

Yeah, I'm totally cool with that, especially if it means building more cool shit on top of this reboot, because what I've seen so far seems SO MUCH better that Sim City 4 in every way, and it seems to have fixed all my major complaints from that game.

The existing min spec is kinda low, honestly. Looks like they targeted something like the 2009 Macbook.

OK, the Site Questionnaire is live. It isn't necessary to answer every question, but I'll weight your results based on what you do answer.

I'm wondering this same thing, but from a different perspective. For instance, could you not make a Los Angeles-esque sprawl by building a dense city, then going to other regions to build the smaller nearby cities, towns, and suburbs? I mean, assuming that you can password-lock a region so no other players move in.

I want to play with you all, but of course there will certainly be times where my hermit side takes over and I want to just do the whole region by myself.

Yes, the multiplayer option is optional and can be public or invite-only, it is something you set up at the beginning of creating a region, of which you can have many.

The way it looks is that you can set up stuff so it can be multiplayer (public), multiplayer (invite only), or single player. And I assume that there's a sandbox or normal setting (sandbox = everything unlocked, no achieves and no random disasters, and all buildings unlocked at the start with a huge fund of starting money).

Note - this is just what I have gleaned from watching various videos on youtube and twitch.tv in my ravenous search for more.

Achievements still seem active in sandbox mode, at least some. During the Lets All Be Mayor event, several cheevos have popped up, and they are obviously in sandbox mode.

It looks like Discovery Delta is Alaska. You're just taking this beautiful region full of resources and turning it into a polluted strip mine.

No, the Lets All Be Mayor stuff isn't in sandbox, they just have a couple people building up basic cities for each day that the live hosts then wreck. You can see that alot of random stuff is locked and can't be built for stuff that hasn't been researched in one of the cities.

Seeing the mountains in the background made me think: Will we be able to see the same landmarks from our cities just from different angles? Will be be able to see tall buildings in each other's cities in the distance?

So, a couple dum-dum questions, since I've never really bought anything from Origin at launch...

Will it unlock at midnight (or 3am Eastern)? Or later in the day?

Does Origin ever allow preloading, or will I be stuck downloading two copies (my wife's and mine) as soon as it unlocks?

They usually allow pre-loading but not this time around, and it'll be available at 12am Eastern.

You can see each other's cities in the distance, yeah. I don't know how often it updates but you'll be able to see landmarks and such. This was shown in yesterday's stream: we could see the Tokyo Tower in a neighboring city.

Essentially, yes. And when he goes to family gathering, their mother asks why Buck can't be more like Chuck and karate chop bad guys.

I filled out the plot questionnaire, but you can just assign me to any un-wanted plot if you need to Jdarksun. I'll make a city anywhere.

Yeah could probably just make a separate list with people who really don't care and use them to plug into empty spots. The results so far showed some areas people just did not want.
