It has you do the tutorial every time you log onto a server the first time.

At least now you can just exit immediately to the main menu.

I'm really, really, and I mean really curious what the oh so fine folks up at Maxis actually consider to be a 'bug' in this game. I'm sure we can all agree that the way that Region play drops in and out at random is a bug. And the server eating your save (in all the myriad ways it can) is a bug. But that seems to be about where consensus ends. I've seen people defending the hideous, mind-gnarling traffic as Working as Designed. I've seen people defending the broken recycling center as WAD. I've seen people defending stealthed uncatchable ninja assssin criminals as WAD. I've even seen people defend the conga-line of shame trucks as WAD.

Ultimately, I don't care what some mouth-breather on the EA support forum thinks. He's free to imagine that the game being brick stupid is a feature. What keeps me worrying is that Maxis agrees with them. That they're sitting in their office in front of a big whiteboard, and on it there is a line that reads," Fire Truck Gangbang ", and next to it is a big checkmark and they're considering that a mission success and high fiving each other.

I would love them to share what they're actually, you know, doing. The pseudo-mystical 'working 24/7' (really? you're not sleeping, eating, or bathing?) doesn't tell us anything whatsoever, other than that they think that we're idiots. I wish I could just trust them, but the past week is starting to gel with my memories of the actual actual worst game release (Master of Orion 3) and its not pleasant what is happening inside of my head.

Fucking Recycling Center bug makes it so that trying to run your center above 6 trucks is asking for trouble. Might be able to get around it by running 2 centers, but given that trucks can go to whatever center they want, I doubt it.

Stealthed ninja uncatchable assassin criminals is another one of my pet peeves. I think I have a few of the fuckers running around my new city right now, but can't be sure.

What they are likely doing is having a much, much higher priority on getting the servers up and running so people can actually play the game at all and have the cities they build save (this, I think, is also part of the region problems you mentioned). That's clearly their number 1 purpose as a company right now, I would imagine. I still trust they have a long list of other bugs that have been listed from the community to check out and delve into soon after the servers are functional. I think it's kinda silly to think that just as soon as this "all clear" happens with the servers they are just going go on vacation.

This release was clearly a royal screw up and they don't quite deserve our complete trust and acceptance quite yet, but at the same point you gotta cut them some slack.

Also, the Region curse filter asterisks Butts. Okay.

So how exactly do you set up a trading city? The prices for ore/coal/etc never seem to change.

.. or are the trading buildings more for importing raw parts, using your city to manufacture, then exporting the finished goods?

Also, the Region curse filter asterisks Butts. Okay.

They don't need to -fix- the bugs yet, obviously. I would enjoy it if my cities didn't spontaneusly fill with poop every time my regional deal to export said poop mysteriously vanished. I just want someone to point at a list of things the community says is broken and say," Yes, yes, no, yes, yes, no, no, no, llama". This isn't a time intensive process. This is, in fact, something that one of the currently redundant game designers could undertake (lead designers after launch are sort of like writers on a movie set; I doubt Ocean and Stone are plugging away at code in a server room (especially because there isn't a server room)), since they (theoretically) are the authorities on how this trainwreck is supposed to be behaving.

And they are not getting much slack at all from me at the moment. I've been on the Evil Corporate Monster side of a release like this. I know what kind of intentionality and planning goes into humping the customer the way they have. There was a big meeting where a whole bunch of people said, out loud," This game is ready to release," while in each and every one of their heads was the thought," This game is not ready to release, but we're doing it anyways".

The only way they're going to get slack from me (so important!) is if the game winds up being Good. We're a long ways away from there.

They have your money, so fuck you.
They also released a game that was obviously not release ready, so fuck them.

Fuck everyone is what I'm really trying to say.

P.S. Even in its broken state I'm enjoying the game, I'm excited about future bug fixes (bringing it up to release "standard") There is a great game here... under all this mess.

Well I'll try to add everyone on the list to my origin friends list now, but i'm not going to have much time to set up my city tonight/tomorrow due to pressing Uni work. But i'll try to make some progress on my city when i can.

    Just got this, currently downloading.

Last SimCity I played was 2000, I think, so I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. I signed up on the form if that's still being used, Origin name same as here if anyone's looking for a partner.

Hah, Casino was doing good until I ran an event on my Expo center. Now at -2600 a day and it's not moving.

Edit: Looking at it, my revenue hit 0, my lodgers hit 0, my tourists hit 0, right after the event in my Expo ended. I've got revenue back up now, BUT it doesn't appear to have changd the -2600 a day. Not sure if the -2600 a day is a cosmetic or logic bug. Revenue is at 1000+ an hour, which... would be a lot more than -2600 a day in profit. :P

Casinos and tourist attractions are bugged. Casinos they have even come out and said are indeed bugged and don't work like they should.

My tourist attractions pendulum between 50k revenue and -8k. Independent of tourist numbers. Annoying!

There will be, once they've got things smoothed out. Right now global market price fluctuations aren't happening. I wonder what's going to happen to the processor market when they come back online.

That said, with the limited footprint available, the margins on coal and metal aren't ever likely to make your city rich unless you're producing tons and tons of the stuff.

I'm not sure what to do...

I couldn't load my city in PA Titan Gorge #1 for over 24 hours, so I figured I'd try to abandon and reclaim. Little did I know that abandoning kicks you out of the group. So now I'm wondering if I should get a re-invite or if I should just start fresh in a new region/city.

Have University, have 2 libraries, bulldoze my recycling centre a couple of times.... people still not recycling.

It sorta work when I went to another region, build a recycling centre there and send the truck over... but not sure If I can get any recycling materials out of it thou... (It would be very abusive to just raid another city's recycling.... because recycling is the only way you can get plastics ... which is a necessary component of making processors...

Maybe I'll throw another 170k to make another off city recycling plant again and see if I can get resources that way....

build a trade hub (city trade specialisation stage 1). add to that a plastics container. click on trade hub, click manage trade, import plastics. also let's you import most other important commodities via the global market if you add their respective container slots.

edit: you have to scroll over to the right for a processor container unit eventually to get rid of them aka exporting them.

@Hullabaloo I missed that friend request by about ten minutes, sorry. If you're still around you can join Delta 4 on me. I'll probably let my city idle for a while here. was thinking of starting an Arcology, I can provide all the metal and alloy, but we'll need 60,000 TV sets.

Also, apparently I chose the only city (Sawyer's Crossing) in the game that has completely broken rail links to use as a rail trade hub. Fuck my life.

It "might" be better if trains weren't broken on my map. I confirmed it with a dev, in Discovery Delta, trains are broken for Sawyer Crossing (city in the picture with the traffic) AND Huckleberry Island (city in the background of my pic). Basically no trains every come down those tracks from down the region. So that limits an option, though I guess therea re cities in some regions that don't have rail by design.

    That's goddamned adorable.

I'm starting to contemplate what exactly is going to happen to this city once I run out of metal ore. Seems like at that point it'll be best to just horde a couple million and bulldoze the entire city to start a new specialization from scratch?

Tried to play some last night. I need to rework my traffic but I can't get any income because there is a damned ninja arsonist that my crackhead police force can't catch. Between him and the 10 fire trucks showing up at a single fire I keep having buildings burn down keeping my income absurdly low. Very close to abandoning the city and starting a new one.

I think if I try a resource town ever again, I'm going to do a ridiculous utilitarian design where there is nothing but specialization buildings and residential. Screw shoppers, screw tourists, and screw freight. Keep the roads clear for trade and resource trucks.

Then again, if I had functional rail trade, I'd probably whine less. Also, if I could figure out how exactly to make a dock at a trade port. Does the trade port structure actually have to be right on the shoreline? I figured I'd be able to extend structures out to the water and then make a dock. Doesn't seem to be the case.

Tourists and commuters are the devil. The solution would be to charge a toll for coming into town if that was an option.

The trade port itself does not need to be on the shoreline, but near it, so the upgrade for the port which you gives you the dock does have to be on the shoreline. It doesn't have to connect to the port but it does need to be nearby. The same goes for the rail addon.

Yeah I got the rail built, the trade port must be barely out of range of the shoreline. It's a shame, I can't really demolish it at this point... I guess in the long run it'd be a smart move... blah.
