Need a desk phone - for home use - but can't figure out the technical jargon

illigillig Registered User regular
This may seem like a strange "Help/Advice" request - but i've been searching for a bit and can't seem to find anything (or understand some of the things I find).

I work two days a week from home - and i spend most of that working time on the phone. I have a good wireless headset (Plantronics) provided by work that I use most of the time, but I do sometimes need to pick up the handset, use the speakerphone, etc. And the phone i have now (AT&T model 993 LINK) really sucks at all of these. The speakerphone distorts the sound and no one can understand me, the handset seems to add a noise (buzz) to the calls, and the number keys are mushy causing me to misdial often. Apparently these are not unusual complaints since many of the Amazon reviewers agree.

Usually in such cases, i'd just buy a 'professional' device and call it a day. But unfortunately, many of the Lucent, Avaya, etc. phones i use in offices seem to only work with business phone systems (PBXs, PMBX, IPBX, and many other acronyms that I have absolutely no comprehension of). So i don't think they'll work at my home?

So, can someone recommend a good quality phone for use with a normal home phone wiring, that has:
- good build quality.
- good quality speakerphone.
- ability to connect a headset.
- mute button

Something like this AVAYA one i use in the office LINK

TL&DR
need a good quality desk phone for home - can't find one - help?
