The interface has been greatly improved; the match start and post-match stats are nice. There are a lot of little things, but they all seem pretty positive so far.
First game: top score on the losing team.
Second game: top score on the winning team.
The ol' formula of "move around a lot and never stop shooting" seems to still work.

yeah, if you can aim, shoot, and then move in that order, you will be in the top 5% of pilots.

I think our default stance is always hate on Heckels.
I single handedly won a game today with it. 4 kills, 4 assists including 2 kills as the last guy on our team (the 4MG spider doesn't fucking count).
This mech is too much fun!
I've been meaning to swap my sniper K2 over to brawling and my zombie C1 over to sniping. I'm happy with the K2, but unhappy with the C1. The problem is that this will likely necessitate some Engine switching and potentially repurchasing, but oh well.
It's not hugely on the priority list for now, though, still need 2 more phracts for Elite.
Its okay Heckels, we can run away and be 3L bros together!
See if they like it when the enemy has 3L's and we are nowhere to be seen!

So I've pretty much just given up on any fast Trebuchet LRM builds; ECM is simply still just way too damn broken for them to do well outside of just being lucky. You can pound a mech closing on you, but the second an ECM light gets in jamming range, you're immediately fucked because you can't even use TAG to lock on stuff outside of the bubble, which is plain moronic. I'd just assumed that TAG would pierce the ECM bubble like it should for the sake of balance, but nope, an ECM light up close just has to stand around to shut you down. Pretty stupid.
Have to say that, overall, I just don't like the Trenchbucket as much as the Centurion. The hardpoints are mounted oddly, the hitboxes too large, and it just doesn't seem to work as well as the Centurion. And the arm-mounted hardpoints means you always end up losing big chunks of firepower to nonsense like double AC20 or splatcats, which I don't like either. The Hunchback has a better setup for SRM combat, and the Centurion has a vastly better setup for survival and keeping your weapons in general. The jumpjets are nice, but not really earth-shattering.
Every time I see a Raven 3L and don't manage to kill it, I am going to teamkill one of you guys the next time I see you in one. Since I've already lost count, I think I'll just kill you every time I see you in a Raven.
Fair warning.

I love doing leg armor checks, but it does kind of suck when you hit someone with a 70+ point alpha and their armor only goes orange and you realize you wasted the shot.

There's no 'mech in the game that can take that kind of alpha in one spot and remain orange, on the leg or otherwise.

Best Trenchbucket builds I've gotten were PPC pop-tart builds for the standard Trebs, and double AC5 for the 7k. I think you need an XL for the 7k to make it work, the others run ok without it. The 7M comes with DHS, and it just barely fits a 260 standard engine+ DHS+ES+FF+5 JJs. with your choice of PPCs or ERPPCs (or one of each).

At some point the AWS was given the option to mount a 300-size engine. Man, that makes a big difference.

There is something really satisfying about picking on those really terrible Atlas pilots who fire all their weapons and overheat when someone rushes them down in point blank.
It's like, yes I realize that you have the smallest cockpit in the game, but if you overheat right next to me? And it's safe enough for me to circle to your front left and slow down/stop? Yeah, I'm just going to kill you outright if I'm not missing weapons by that point.
I single handedly won a game today with it. 4 kills, 4 assists including 2 kills as the last guy on our team (the 4MG spider doesn't fucking count).

I keep telling people, but no one ever believes me! The last few games this afternoon and yesterday were really good for my Quadapult. I think I got 5 kills and 2 assists in the best match, outdamaging the guy in second place on the scoreboard by some 400 damage. But I'm just out and about on my laptop, and my victory screens are in my Fraps folder at home... In any case, that's part of where my reservations about using damage done as a metric come from, it's so easy to apply pinpoint damage with it, you don't have to deal high damage to kill people. I think in one game I headshot another Lasercat (as a point of pride!) and a hunchback in quick succession. Fun times
The stats don't lie: Catapult CPLT-K2: 24 Matches played, 2.43 W/L ratio, 2.50 K/D ratio, 9,834 Damage done, 15,413 XP earned, 02:08:40 hours played. And I get really reckless and die more often than not, which I'd love to blame on inebriation or sleep deprivation but which is probably just a character flaw.
So... with a 300XL, what do you do with the extra tonnage? Here's my build: The Quadapult, and a fun variation, the Quadapult with MGs. 18 or 19 DHS doesn't really make that much of a difference, after all... but I kept forgetting that I have MGs, so I took them out again
Just put the MGs on the same fire button as the Large Lasers, then you won't have to worry about firing them. One ton of ammo lasts so god damn long on those things that you can spend half the match walking into a wall screaming DURRRRRRRRRRR into all chat while firing the whole time and still have ammo left over.

But... that's so inelegant! Besides, I think with Lasers you're better off not holding down the fire button continuously, but timing and aiming each shot. At least I always get confused or thrown off when I simply keep it pressed. After the cooldown, my Lasers start firing again and I'm all "Oh, already? Oh I missed." Much less stressful to wait for the indicator light to turn yellow again, then taking a split second to align the crosshairs before firing.
Funny you should bring up walking into a wall for half a match. During a pubbie match on Frozen City yesterday afternoon I got interrupted by the pizza delivery man, typed "crap afk" into team chat and went to the door. When I came back, I was halfway across the map, slightly more damaged, but still alive, walking into a wall. Surprised, I turned around and actually got to shoot another enemy robot before the match ended

Two games, two crashes
So, am I wasting my time?
I do not like it.
I finally did some googling, and the game's critical hit mechanics now make sense.
The best weapon to disable enemy equipment via crits is in fact the PPC or AC/10. Machine guns, lasers, and other rapid-fire weapons tend to spread damage across internal components. A PPC, if it crits, will deal 10 damage to whatever it hits (there's a small chance to hit up to 3 internal components), and all internal components aside from the Gauss Rifle and engine currently have 10 hp. Since components function perfectly until their hp reach zero, you really want to be swinging in 10-damage increments.
Also, there is apparently no in-game effect to having your engine critted out--you nonetheless die only when one of the relevant torso sections (depending on engine type) is completely destroyed. A lucky engine crit from a Gauss Rifle or AC/20 won't take you out of the match unless your internals in that section also hit zero.
This explains why it's so hard to take out equipment with lasers, yet when I swing away with PPCs stuff comes offline real fast.

That's pretty much what I've been finding. Part of the fun of the Dakkaphract is that not only does it do a ton of damage, all those AC/5s going off at once gives you a good chance to crit and they absolutely wreck internals when they do.

The answer is YES.
I'm kind of hankering for a content/feature roadmap update. I really want my hopes to come true that the Highlander will be April's mech.
