Hey y'all, if you have serious issues with the game you should post on the Dev forum, because they read it and might listen to what you say
The K2 is one of the most versatile chassis's (chassises? chasses?) in the game. It's really excellent.
[email protected] is also VERY good about responding and making sure issues get forwarded to the devs. Just be sure to be polite and provide whatever you can so they can see what's going on. They're very appreciative of DXDiags, screenshots, videos, etc.

I'm honestly kind of disappointed it's doing so well. I think it's absurdly overpriced, but apparently people don't care and will still buy it. So much for trying to get them to lower hero mech prices.
I have every hero mech and have had fun with each. Personally this one is just as garish as I need in a battlemech. Now if they can give me an Orange & Blue Madcat when the clan mechs roll out I will be a happy camper.

Ultracat is a K2 build then? I just watched a video from one of the devs (I think?) wreck shit with AC/10s and 4 MLs. Autocannons look fun.
Yeah. AC/10s also work without you having to worry about the fire discipline required with UACs.
The way you know what build is for what model is usually just by understanding the hardpoints over time. K2s are the only Catapults with ballistic points and laser ears, so any referenced build with AC/UAC/MG/LBX/Gauss is a K2 build.

Here's how I look at it: if people will buy something that absurdly overpriced in huge numbers, it means that a) people really, really like the game and b) PGI can have superfluous stuff like that be overpriced without having to add shitty, annoying, premium-only things to the game. Basically, people with loads of disposable income are subsidizing the great game I love to play without any cost to myself. It'd be far more worrisome if nobody was buying Heavy Metal.
Heavy Metal speakers suck. The song sucks, the color sucks. The colors are canon but the music is fucking terrible and not even remotely "Heavy Metal".

So here's a noob question...what happens when I own more than 4 mechs? There's no limit to how many you can own right? Or is it limited to the number of ready slots? I only own one of the hunchbacks at the moment.
If you fill the garage slots, you can't buy any new mechs. Unless you buy a garage slot first (300 MC). Pretty sure that Hero mechs come with a garage slot though, so I'm not sure how that works if you try to buy a hero mech without an open garage slot.
Just to set this straight because I haven't seen it answered yet: Hero Mechs do NOT come with a garage slot.

Heavy Metal never actually played heavy metal. It played Elvis because Rhonda Snorde is awesome.

That is one thing that absolutely needs to be changed. It's silly to have spend more money on top of the hero mech just to be able to actually buy the damn thing in the first place.
Kind of a sniping 9M, with large pulses to discourage approaching mediums/lights.
If you're running the 9M with less than a 385 XL, you're doin' it wrong. That thing's my favorite 'mech, and the one I tend to do best in--I use a 385 XL, 3 MLAS, 2 (standard) PPCs, and 23 DHS.
Also, if you're running lasers on the 8Q, 3 LLAS and 4 MLAS is about the best setup. Pair a LLAS with a MLAS in each double energy hardpoint; this combination will use exactly 3 critical slots and allow you to fit a 300 STD engine and 22 DHS. More than 3 LLAS means you have to start sacrificing heat sinks to free up criticals, which is usually not worthwhile in my experience.
The Awesome in general is all about cramming as many heat sinks as humanly possible onto the 'mech.

you know Elvis is kinda a thing with that mech, right?

To be fair, when the name of a mech is "Heavy Metal" and it plays music when you kill something, it would be a pretty normal assumption to think that the music would be heavy metal. Nobody thinks "heavy metal" and goes "yeah, Elvis was totally heavy metal!"
i want an old time cash register "cha-ching" sound to play when i kill someone in my cashaphract. ill pay extra if little green cbill signs float up above my mech for all to see.whlie that cha-ching plays.
about the artillery and airstrikes being low damage, I'm wondering if they remembered to account for the fact they nerfed splash damage. If I remember correctly, the splash was supposed to be a significant portion of the damage of the strike(s).
As far as which catapult: the K2 and C1 are both great mechs. You really can't go wrong with either. If you want ballistics, go with the K2. If you want missiles of any sort, go with the C1.

Problem is that they're selling Heavy Metal right now. If somebody was unhappy with purchasing Heavy Metal because it doesn't actually play heavy metal, then yeah, that's totally reasonable.
Also, matches are freezing at the end EVERY TIME. That's just great. Game doesn't lock up, you just can't type anything and the match won't conclude. The mech also stays locked into the last match for several minutes even after the match is over. Sigh.

To which I'd like to simply counter with this picture:
I'll take the guy who died a drug addict over Captain Board Shorts and the Armani Army.
The Hero Mech pricing is high, but on the other hand, I don't think PGI ever intended for us to be playing PokeMech with them. They strike me as a good investment for somebody who wants to make some extra money and XP but can't keep a premium account running all the time.
EDIT: If you guys are having serious game issues, then may I recommend some lively rounds of Star Conflict?

But that 8Q build leaves half a ton open
That really is some good advice @CycloneRanger - thanks! :-) I just bought a 9M yesterday and have been running it with 4 LLAS and a 385XL, because it seemed familiar that way. I'll definitely try your build though. I'm liking this chassis, just saving up for a couple more variants now

Ask anybody and their grandma, or even their great-grandma, what genre Elvis was and they will say "rock and roll". Nobody would ever say Elvis was heavy metal.
EDIT: Sorry for subjecting Lancks to my pub hatred. We had FOUR ALLIED MECHS at our base and none of them were on the cap.
Damn it, first game after patch and I am getting the freeze after match over bug. And my kablameister is stuck in game. Couldn't really verify lb10x engine crit is in but I did kablam a hunchie and a raven in the ct. Really wanted to see my match stat too. Oh well, break for an hour and come back later.

Thoughts on the Heavy Metal? It does great with an XL. The arms are so bulky compared to the side torsos that it kind of doesn't really matter, not to mention the lack of zombitude. Jump jets make maneuvering in tight areas a breeze, which is normally an issue for assaults.
Hardpoints are really meh, and 90 is a weird tonnage to work with. Jump jets are so heavy, but as you can see I found a decent build I'm happy with, even with what is essentially a 10 ton handicap.
I know exactly what kind of music it's supposed to play and what Rhonda blasted from it. Thats not the point. The point is the "snippet" of music they choose, blows. It's also to quiet.

If you knew ahead of time (And I know you did we had this conversation on Vent weeks ago) why are you upset it isn't playing Heavy Metal music? (The other points are valid, I'm just curious why you added that point in)

Hm, looks like the 'crashes' most people are getting are freezes-ups at the end of games, not CTDs. Annoying.
