Fellow 3DS hunters - is there a way to use the target cam feature w/out having it on the bottom panel?
Left trigger? You activate it by pressing the cam button on the touch screen, then use left trigger to swing the camera. I don't believe there's a button for the activation.
Got my copy. Doing the software update and then I'll cheat my charm table selection once I get situated.
Midnight Launch statistics at my local shop. ~35% for Monster Hunter (rest of Gears of War). Age range of 20s-30s (10s-20s picking up Gears). All four female customers and the age-outlying grandpa picked up Monster Hunter.
Kindly confirm if you can upload screenshots on Miiverse.
It'll be incredibly idiotic if you can't.
Almost certain you can't.
For one thing, you have to hit the home button to post to Miiverse and whatever screen you were on when you hit home is the screenshot...but you can't press the home button when you're online. You can't pause the online.
But you can't take screens in single player either.
Well. I'm 95% sure I'm on Charm Table #10 which is what I was aiming for. But #1 or #7 are also possibilities after doing the fishing haul twice. Will have to confirm later, but one of those three was what I wanted anyways so I'm happy.
Hmm. The site for one my local videogame retailers claims they've already got this game up on their shelves. Getting real tempted to walk over and pick up a copy if it's true.
I really really liked Dragon's Dogma. I played the demo and thought it looked cool and played cool, but I didn't know what the hell was going on.
If you thought it played cool then you're good, because learning what the hell is going on is pretty easy! Lots of help online and in the game itself, it has a long tutorial to ease you in. The finesse you have to learn yourself but if you like the way it plays then you won't mind it.

It's basically an agricultural farming simulator where you assign feline sidekicks jobs, trade with fishermen, customise your room and...oh yeah, occasionally battle giant murder beasts to the death in intense action packed fantasy combat.
My Wii U is installing the MH3 update thingie and then I'm good to go. Using pro controller, thats best I hear? Or do i lose something spiffy from the touch screen?
NintedoID is badwrong
edit: hmmm not seeing a mic on the pro controller... can I have the wiipad near me for its mic maybe? I do have my laptop close by and could use vent/ts maybe...

You can use the Mic on the Gamepad when you're using the Pro Controller, AFAIK. But why you wouldn't use the Gamepad is beyond me, that touch screen was super helpful in the demo.
Monster Hunter is the ONLY game, ever, to make me super giddy whenever I pick up loads of dung. World of Warcraft tried to make me excited about it, but I wasn't, Dark Souls has that dung pie thing, still not exciting because all of these examples are useless POOP. Don't Starve has actually done a good job because Dung=Farming, like it SHOULD be. In Monster Hunter, I've actually done quests where my only objective was to collect dung. Obviously not the in-game quest objective, but MY objective was that. I never do the actual "gathering" quests, I just pick whatever small-fry quest you get for the area. For example, when I'm hunting Rustshards, I always pick the Uruktor quest. The Gathering quests, at least in MHP3rd, don't move time forward, and they're prone to just not being quite as good or special.
Did you know, for example, that after a certain amount of time the mining nodes do this weird "reset" thingy, and will pop up the higher-level loot in Tri? In the Volcano area you have the grey mining nodes, but the best ones are the blue ones, you'll be digging ancient shards out of those by the fistful, well you have to wait until, I think about the 15 or 20 minute mark to have them actually have a decent chance of spawning in. Tri Ultimate will have this same thing, I believe.

Really? I had no idea about that. We'd often make a beeline for the nodes and then complete the quest so we could do it again. I seemed to get a pretty decent amount of rust shards though.

I have many fond memories of someone yelling 'There's POOP HERE!' and then everyone's hunter converging on the spot to root around in a pile of massive horse apples.
Still wondering about the tables. Is there a range of time where I won't get the Cursed Tables? Because I still want it to be random, but I don't want to be screwed.
And I'm wondering if it's feasible to prepare Blademaster and Gunner equipment on one file. Because I love Switch Axes and Hunting Horns, but I've also fallen for Bows.

Please do take what I say with a grain of salt. This is anecdotal evidence that I heard from SocialDissonance. He's a decent source that seems to know what's going on in Monster Hunter better than any mortal man ever should, however there is a chance that he is wrong. I will tell you that from my own experiments, after a certain amount of time, you get more of the "high grade" mining nodes to show up.

I thought you can make any equipment you want? I'd planning on going for Dual Blades and Bow stuff.
Right, you can. It's just that Gunner armor and Blademaster armor are separate things (except for the helms. Either weapon type can use either type of helm)
So, using both playstyles effectively doubles the amount of armor you're gonna need to craft.
But I think I can live with that, because holy crap Bows.

Yeah you're not locked in to any one thing, only factor that limits what you can make is the amount of monster parts in your pack.
I think I'll roll the Slime/ Kelbi bow setup once the fancy to do ranged battle strikes me. I wanna find out for myself just how well you can do with it.
Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.
I got a little excited when I saw your ship.

ALWAYS look at both helmets, I imiplore you, just because it's a "Gunner" helmet doesn't mean it isn't worlds better for you. My example is the Rathalos Helmet, the "Gunner" version of it has been better than the "Blademaster" version in Tri, and MHP3rd. THe armor is lower, however holy shit, you get something like 2 extra attack and 1 extra crit if you use the Gunner over the Blademaster. I've never even made the Blademaster helmet for Rathalos. There are others like that too. Obviously if the gunner helmet has something like Pierce S+ then you don't want it, but if it's cross-over skills like Water Attack or Attack or Defense, you'd probably be better off using a Gunner helm with your Blademaster armor.

I am really really hoping Capcom has sweet Monster Hunter merch for sale at PAX this weekend, the said they have a whole booth dedicated to the game, but not if they're selling stuff. I want that Hunt Them t-shirt pretty bad, and that 3DS XL aluminum case!

Games get! As far as I know I got table 10, the process was really painless..just gotta play until fish guys now.
Also, confirmed that Target did get both versions and they're part of buy 2 get one. I also picked up Kingdom Hearts for the 3ds, which I'd been meaning to get for some time.
Also, has anyone else figured out how to change facial hair? It appears my only option is a lame goatee.
Edit: Looks like, at least on the 3ds version, facial hair/scars are tied to the face you choose.
As someone who is pretty much a newcomer to Monster Hunter, how important is this whole table-fixing thing? It sounds pretty important. And assuming it is, what recommendations do people have for a good table for someone new to the series?

It's not really all that important, but it's good to know what you're getting into. Table 10 is widely considered the best one for most people.
This is probably well known, but that won't stop me:
Here in the EU, there's going to be a special Wii-U + Monster hunter combo package, but the supply is extremely limited: One of the major Retailers Fnac (think Best buy'ish) is only getting a total of 3. So if you don't have a Wii-U yet, and you like collecting poop in a Fancy European way, Get a reservation for the system!
