Easy, Free, VNC?

ANTVGM64ANTVGM64 Registered User regular
Howdy, so, long story short I play in an online CCG that has a big tournament tomorrow, but alas, I have to work. At work, I have a, well, work computer that cannot install the game software. What I'd like to do is install some sort of VERY easy to use VNC software on my Macbook Pro (at home, which I'd leave on), and then access it from work using some sort of web App. Performance is kind of important, but stability and lack of plug-ins / downloads is more important.

Any recommendations?

I'm going to assume that if your work doesn't allow you to install games on the computer, they are not going to want you to install an application that opens up a big old security hole on it either. (Where I work, having remote desktop software installed on the system is grounds for immediate termination). There is also the fact you have to open a port on your home router for it to even work, and that a simple google search will answer your question better than we can provide here.

I'd suggest using LogMeIn, set up an account and install the software on your home system then you'll be able to remotely access it from any computer you have access to. I use it at work to do remote maintenance on our customer machines. With a good enough web connection on the customer end, I'm able to do anything on it that I would in person.

I also want to second Halkun though, that this is probably a really bad idea to do on your work machine.

I came here to suggest LogMeIn, and I see see317 has already done so. I use it at work to communicate with my computer back at home, and will second it's suggestion.

I would highly recommend checking your companies policy on this sort of thing. Even if the amount of time you spend on it it falls within their acceptable use, intentionally bypassing their perimeter security (firewalls) is often a punishable offense in most companies... up to and including termination.

Even if you do find one that works... which is quite possible depending upon how your company is set up and what they use, especially if you're only connecting to a home system. But if it trips something that gets people to look at it, you're going to have to explain what you were up to.

This kind of thing is almost certainty against your work Internet acceptable use policy.

I've known many people with this kind of problem, and it's much better to fit in a Sick or Vacation day unless you can very easily justify the security hole(s) and time spent with your boss.

I'm unique. Just like everyone else.

This thread is probably better titled "Help me lose my job".

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
