New Super Mario Bros. is so innovative it makes me physically ill

And word has it that the new Zelda won't have Z targeting or L targeting, but a fusion of the two called "ZL Targeting"

    Innovation!

I'm excited at Most WUnted coming out soon. I've only been using my Wii U in small bursts, and for some reason I'm still not in the mood to go back and finish ZombiU.

The combo of Lego City, Monster Hunter and Need for Speed should help that.

    Oh shit there's a demo of MH3?

I just realized this is the first time in 2013 I'll be turning on my Wii U! Wonder if I have any friend requests, I was getting them almost daily before (I'm assuming from this thread)

I can't even read the store page on ZombieU, let alone get the demo, until after 11 at night?

Fuck you German censorship. That's insane.

It's Nintendo Censorship, not German. They chose to put this into practice. Sony and Microsoft have no such similar draconian policies.

So BestBuy.com is having a clearance sale right now, only one Wii U game, but it's Darksiders II for $20

It's unavailable online but you can add it to your cart and do in-store pickup, if a store near you has it

Huh, has anyone played the WiiU version of this? That's a really tempting deal.

Apparently it's just as solid, and it includes the DLC, so basically it's the best version

Apparently before I last turned off my Wii U, I had started downloading a ZombiU demo, so I tried it out

I don't really like it, but it's not bad. Nothing I saw outside of the lockpick minigame gave any reasoning for it being exclusive though, it could easily be done elsewhere

That said I actually really liked the lockpicking minigame, simple as it was

So with MH3 Ultimate approaching, I need to buy a Wii U. Is there any reason not to go with the Deluxe? I prefer the white colored system to black but I can learn to live with it for more internal storage.

Don't let the internal storage be your deciding factor. The system was designed to work with external hard drives, and if you are going to do a lot of digital purchases you'll need one.

The main benefits of the digital deluxe versions are:

    1) Nintendoland/ZombiU (I think the ZombiU pack comes with Nintendoland)
    2) charging cradle for the gamepad ($20 value)
    3) Pro Controller (ZombiU pack only)
    4) digital promotion that gives you 10% of the value in digital packages back as points to spend for the next couple of years.

I've pimped this so many times now but currently:
    http://www.gamestop.com/wii-u/consoles/nintendo-wii-u-32gb-zombiu-deluxe-set-black/107750
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Wii-U-ZombiU-Set/23000105

This is the best deal you can get for a Wii U. You get that and then head over to Target this week for the B2G1 deal. Nintendo Land is a digital download. AFAIK you get a store credit when you redeem it.

Also good deals if you're willing to order online:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nintendo-Wii-U-Solution-Bundle-w-Customer-Choice-Wii-U-Game-Wii-Plus-Remote/21803986 (this is great if you don't need the Pro controller, and the remote is handy to have)

Obviously these aren't Basic sets. The Basic is a good deal if you don't want the stands (*cough* you'll want the charging stand *cough*), or a game, and have an external HDD handy.

There are very few minigames that require two+ players - Mario Chase, Luigi's Mansion, and Animal Crossing. the other 3 can be done single-player, though they are quite a ton better multiplayer.

What pisses me off about Nintendo land is the fact that you can't use the pro controller for any of the multiplayer only games. It's absolute bullshit that I can't use my perfectly functional, packed in controller to chase someone through a maze. Oh, and I can't use it in Mario because of a few motion controlled levels? Fucking yippee.

Exactly. Why anyone would pay to hear Patcher's opinion on anything is beyond me. With that said, I don't think the problem is the public image of the Wii U being wrong, I think it's the public image of the Wii U being practically non-existent. A lot of my non gamer friend families are just now getting 360's and PS3's and didn't even realize there was a Wii U. I think for the folks that don't really follow gaming it's going to be another really slow adaptation to the next generation of consoles.

I like Pachter, he's pretty down to earth and (most importantly) admits when he's wrong. He's also quick to post a thread explaining his positions at GAF and just generally comes across as a likeable guy who has a job to do for his clients and does it as best he can. Just because he makes predictions that are against what the Nintendo faithful want doesn't mean he's the anti-christ. He says a lot of bold claims about every company that invokes some negativity a lot of times but you don't see everyone in a frothing rage over the guy like they are here.

The WiiU is selling worse than any major console in history, that's a fact. And it's launch is coming off the the heels of one of the most successful consoles in the company's history. It's only been 3 months but it's still a sensational story of riches to rags (despite there still being billions made so there is literally no rags or anyone going out of business).

I didn't say that Patcher was a hack based solely on his Nintendo comments. He is generally not very accurate in his predictions - however his Nintendo ones do stick out as the most glaring examples of him not really understanding the industry his reports on. I would argue you would see similar opinions of him in just about any thread on the boards here - not just the Nintendo fans.

Patcher can be likeable - but I've worked with plenty of incompetent likeable people.

Actually, Pacther makes some completely ascinine statements about the entirety of the industry. Friendly guy or not, the man makes predictions that are meant to drive money into the pockets of those who pay him, not predictions about the reality of the industry.

I'm not going to deny that the Wii U is doing horribly for a time when no games have been released for it for a few months. I'm not about to say that the company is doomed, and especially not in the next year; statements Pacther has made, for the record.

So, I figured out how to get Perfect+++'s in Runner 2. You just have to beat each level on each difficulty level with a !+. And I'm kicking myself for playing the whole game on Just Right instead of Rather Hard the first time. Rather Hard is the real game, folks. So awesome.

Realllly need that patch to come out though... I'm to the point now where I'm afraid to play the game because I don't want to damage my system from all the hardlocks somehow. Everytime I played the game over the weekend, I had to unplug the power cord because the console hardlocked when I quit.

I'm getting close to beating ZombiU. This is a fantastic launch title for the WiiU I would say. I just made it out of
    the nursery
and I must say, I don't think I've ever seen so much trolling squeezed into such a little space in any game before. I can see how people fear/respect that level, although I did manage to make it through on my own on my first try, basically
when I walked into the Nursery, I saw that the entire thing was set up to just endlessly troll you from the beginning, with winding passages, tight corners, and lots of places where groups of zombies could make life difficult.
Dropped a mine in the main room, and continued on. After I get into the basement, that poltergeist zombie freaked me out quite a bit, but I was kind of immune to her little "gotcha" at the end, because I always behead anything I kill, and when I saw that her head stayed I was instantly warned that she's about to do something. My biggest advantage was that I finally learned that when the game tells you "OMG RUN!" you tell it to fuck off and go as slow as you can, except for the very beginning area. I very slowly worked my way up through the area, even the exploding zombie didn't get me because I very carefully inspected him through my crossbow scope before approaching, noticing the gas mask. When outside, as soon as the dude said "give me a moment as I hack this" I knew INSTANTLY that there was going to be a big horde, so I started sprinting to a well-protected area. Turns out I was right, but a couple of flash bombs, molotovs, and some cleanup with the SMG and I was able to survive even that, although I had to run away from the last 3 or so zombies cause I was out of everything and hurt.
This game keeps the tension very high, and I love it. I'm on board with it being WiiU exclusive, because the use of the WiiU pad is kind of integral to how the game functions, seeing that zombie shuffle it's way towards you, while you're fumbling through your backpack to pick out that flare is a pretty awesome stress feeling.

NSMBU if you have any interest in 2d platforming, especially if you haven't played any of the other games in the series. Give the ZombiU demo a try and see if it's to your taste (it came out over there I think).

There's some interesting stuff on the digital pipeline, and Lego City might be decent.

Pachter has pretty much specifically said that he doesn't like Nintendo and likes to rile people up.

    And gems like this:
“Finance is something that most gamers can’t wrap their heads around,” starts Pachter at the beginning of the meeting, “I just make things up about the video game world to get them riled up like my PlayStation 4 can render 240 FPS comment. Again, gamers aren’t the types of people to be concerned about money and business since that’s far outside their world of understanding.”

“I mean, I haven’t played the Wii U, but I can safely say financially that it isn’t doing well,” continues Pachter, “That’s the extent of my financial advice for Wedbush. For gamers, they don’t care. They want to know whether or not Nintendo needs to make a new Donkey game or whatever. That’s where I pull out my public persona. I just use the word fanboy and everyone just listens.

“Yes, I do exaggerate sometimes,” he admits, “but that’s for the good of my show. Who would actually want to watch a show about video games that doesn’t include violence or bikini models? I have to generate controversy otherwise my public existence is gone. I do have to admit that I enjoy the attention.”

“I’m just the Jim Cramer of video games,” he concludes at the end of the meeting.

When asked about where he retrieved his estimated five million sales for the game Fuse, he responds, “Okay, that is a complete lie. I totally made that one up for shits and giggles. As I said, I love the attention.

I don't know where you get "down to earth" and "admits when he's wrong" from that. All I see is troll, troll, troll.
