Someone defending Pachter? Allforce...how much of his predictions/reports have you actually read?
Nintendo/Sony/MS...it doesn't matter...he goes from stupidly obvious to fanboyish trollbaiting. He also rarely admits when he's wrong and as Sporky mentioned he goes so far as making stuff up just to get attention.
I've heard he can be a pretty cool guy in person, but that doesn't excuse how terrible and out of touch he is when it comes to the industry he represents.
I don't have to defend Pachter, I just know the guy from his posts at GAF and when he's a guest on GiantBomb and like I said, he comes off as a genuinely funny guy who doesn't take this shit so seriously. He tells his investors to either buy or sell based on information he sees, simple as that. No different than any financial analyst for any other industry.
He made some "Microsoft will win this generation" prediction at SXSW a few weeks back because "they asked me to speak and I had to come up with something", and then made a thread at GAF explaining his position that was thorough and interesting and even had the caveat of "I may be 100% wrong but this is what I feel right now". It fueled a lot of great debate for 10 pages and didn't devolve into OMG PACHTER U TROLL.
I just make things up about the video game world to get them riled up like my PlayStation 4 can render 240 FPS comment.
When asked about where he retrieved his estimated five million sales for the game Fuse, he responds, “Okay, that is a complete lie. I totally made that one up for shits and giggles. As I said, I love the attention.”
I guess you can like it that he's being very honest about the fact that he regularly lies?
Places like the nursery in ZombieU and Dead space 2 are obvious 'toll' areas but that doesnt stop them from being awesome setpieces.

So...everything you know of him is from Gaf and a few recent things?
What about when he recently talked about how he throws random untrue stuff on gaf just to get a rise out of them. He doesn't respect anyone there and says so...a lot.
It is reviewing pretty well! Really looking forward to it (as I was before reviews anyway, I've probably looked into this game more than any in recent memory).
Funny thing about the flagging sales (which are still increasing)...
Nintendo is on track to meet its sales target for the end of the fiscal year. Which is a lowered one, of course, but it means that they expected this. And also that their stock price should remain relatively stable. It's also worth noting that GAMES on the Wii U are selling at a fairly high attach rate. In fact, interestingly, titles like Just Dance 4 are selling about as well on the Wii U as the PS3 (and the combined Wii and Wii U sales of the game make up more than 75% of all sales).
“Finance is something that most gamers can’t wrap their heads around,” starts Pachter at the beginning of the meeting, “I just make things up about the video game world to get them riled up like my PlayStation 4 can render 240 FPS comment. Again, gamers aren’t the types of people to be concerned about money and business since that’s far outside their world of understanding.”
“I mean, I haven’t played the Wii U, but I can safely say financially that it isn’t doing well,” continues Pachter, “That’s the extent of my financial advice for Wedbush. For gamers, they don’t care. They want to know whether or not Nintendo needs to make a new Donkey game or whatever. That’s where I pull out my public persona. I just use the word fanboy and everyone just listens.”
“Yes, I do exaggerate sometimes,” he admits, “but that’s for the good of my show. Who would actually want to watch a show about video games that doesn’t include violence or bikini models? I have to generate controversy otherwise my public existence is gone. I do have to admit that I enjoy the attention.”
“I’m just the Jim Cramer of video games,” he concludes at the end of the meeting.
When asked about where he retrieved his estimated five million sales for the game Fuse, he responds, “Okay, that is a complete lie. I totally made that one up for shits and giggles. As I said, I love the attention.”
I don't know where you get "down to earth" and "admits when he's wrong" from that. All I see is troll, troll, troll.
*cough*
Play4Real is the video game equivalent of The Onion. All that shit? It's a joke. Pachter didn't say that. Yes, lots of people want to assume it's real, because lots if people would think that's EXACTLY what Pachter would say. But, unfortunately (for someone trying to make a point about the man), it's a joke. It's Literally Unbelievable.
Great game so far, though the controls can be a bit confusing at times and in general the game has too many side missions.
I didn't get this because I have it on PC, although I might get it anyway if the price drops incredibly low one day because I love Batman. Anyway, eventually I ended up just ignoring the story and doing all of the side missions (except where you hit a wall because of a missing item). The only thing I haven't done yet is get all of the riddler trophies. You'll be happy to know that after the story the game lets you go back and finish everything else.

Ultimately it doesn't matter because he honestly has said things along those lines multiple times.

Some of the trophies are insane. I have the hardest times with the ones where the ? pads are on the side of walls. The other weird thing about the game is that I completed the main story after doing all of the sidemissions possible and I am still only 53% done.
Who the fuck brought up P*****r? I swear to god...
Sorry I'm just a bit testy since my Lego City download is taking forever.
Wait is that out today?
Why the hell does Best Buy's website say the release date is the 20th?
It was on the eShop around midnight, but apparently there's a manufacturer's delay. Amazon has it shipping in a couple weeks and most places aren't releasing until Wednesday at the earliest.

Well... that's lame. I'd though about maybe picking it up along with NFS and then grabbing something else too (already ordered Lego City). Oh well. I guess just NFS gets the extra monies this month.
It is reviewing pretty well! Really looking forward to it (as I was before reviews anyway, I've probably looked into this game more than any in recent memory).
I don't know about Monster Hunter 3. Seems incredibly dull in single players, but looks like it could be fun in multi.
It's just that I've never really bought games just for the multiplayer.

Well it's cooperative which for me is a big draw compared to your standard competitive stuff. And yet it's not an MMO with a monthly fee and the requirement of online play.
In Tri, when the servers go down, about 60-70% of the game's content will become unavailable. Not so for Ultimate, which is entirely playable solo - you go to the online port town with your two AI companions and do whatever you want. It can be difficult, but it's all there.
I don't think it's too bad of a game for a single player either. Everyone says it's fun that way, and I know from experience in Tri that it can be. Lots to craft and see and do.
sorry was reading Go nintendo and going by the Gametrailers WiiU sight. I knew the WiiU wasn't on fire but the public discourse was mystery. so I asked here.
I know Pachter is in the damning position where he can say anything and not be held accountable to it. but I did mention the facts and figures he put to it. Could that be misleading HELL YES. So naturally the stuff that counters it or puts it into some perspective won't hurt, Which posters have wrt the increasing sales and promising attach rate. It seems the WiiU will be a slow grower not an instant success. Still what does that mean once the more advanced consoles come out? The PS4 annoucement was THE news of February. Admittedly slow month and it was that of Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Still at least part of the WiiU's point is to rehab nintendo in the eyes of consumers as a core title MUCH LIKE Disney is doing but not betray their trust identity. Asking how that goes in light of Pachter tilting at a windmill he suspects will at least be taken somewhat seriously isn't dumb. At the least asking "why he feels confident saying this" isn't dumb.
That said it seems WiiU's future is uncertain with an emphasis now on draught and slight disappointment in performance as a technical piece and industry product mixed with a kind of doldrums. My sig thread first grew out of a similar thread noting this dangerous trend in Nintendo's image. People who love Nintendo are okay with it and those not devoted are me or uninformed or just don't care which is dangerous. Passionate hatred to the bank can be rode somewhere. Mehness makes you very vulnerable to circumstance and people insist the Tablet and smartphone revolution has sucked Nintendo of its invading casual market and the core seems simultaneously unforgiving for them attracting them or catering in the first place or dismissive of them as whole for... a reason I don't get
Mind it doesn't help there doesn't seem to be that killer app or if it is there is a decided.. well Japan first mentality to the bulk of nintendo's strategy. They are more being, very effecient in keep their presence in US markets but its the Japanese they seem aggressive about securing to the point it feels more than a few feel put pout. Nino Kuni should have been the 3DS's surprise sleeper hit instead Sony profits in America. Also compare the density of immediate content and so on for Japanese NDs to American ones. They aren't being lazy but its clear who's the priority. And can't that have negative side effects when establishing a firm foot is critical?

Good lord, could you be a bit more overwought and melodramatic?
What happens with the WiiU will happen. Nintendo didn't fuck anything up and put out an excellent piece of hardware that, like the Wii, might be behind the 'newest' technology, but brings something to the table that the other systems don't, and won't. Whether it catches on like the Wii isn't even important, and trying to bring in the whole damn 'smartphones are killing consoles' soap opera shit that is good for headlines on kotaku but worthless as far as actually having any importance or meaning to gamers (games are games are games and gamers will play games).
Children worry about 'console wars', people who actually play games will follow their nose to their bliss, even if it defies someone elses. The WiiU doesn't need to be the Wii. The Gamecube was profitable for Nintendo and people still like to olol at it. The WiiU just needs to be a good system that appeals to enough people that Nintendo makes money. They don't need to 'win' anything, they just need to be a company that produces a product at a profit and has customers.
And with Wind Waker HD, anything Monolith Soft wants to grace us with, and unknown new Zelda, an unknown new Mario (SMG/2 were the most fun games of the last fucking decade), and more, the WiiU is fine.
Target looks like it won't have MH in stores, and it doesn't have Lego City online. So I can't get both of them with the B2G1.
Feels like a bait and switch with the ad eh?
The Target employee yesterday at 7:30pm told me Lego City was In-stock and it would be on the shelves at 8:00am when they opened. Obviously Target changed their ads to reflect the new shipping date, but their systems still say the game is in-stock and I assume employees go off their little register which probably says the same thing.
I mean.. I don't know how it goes to 'in-stock' unless it happens automatically, kinda seems like poor inventory management to me.

Well, it would be pretty shitty if a continued sales slump forced Iwata to essentially boot himself. He's one of the most empathetic company heads that inhabits this industry and it'd be a great shame if the stockholders came to demand his head on a spike.
But in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter. I'm sure Iwata would be able to retire in relative comfort, and that's not taking into account the possibility that even if he's removed from his current post he might still continue working in another company position.
Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.
And maybe somebody else would aggressively buy up the right properties and forge the right partnerships to propel Nintendo forward. They succeed by having games that make people say "dammit, now I have to buy a Nintendo system for that." They need more of those!
I think they focus too much on Japan, securing Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter but nothing for the west. They need to realize Japan is not interested in consoles anymore, but the west still is, if you give them the right games.
