@ Aegeri: Of course, then you end up with some third parties (Like Crystal Dynamics) who say they wouldn't port a game like Tomb Raider unless they can think of something unique to do with the thing, even though the bare minimum (Menus, weapon selection, off screen play) would probably be enough. Then again, if you don't do anything interesting with it, you end up running into Ridley's issue. Probably not a lot of easy answers here, is there?

See that's just an incredibly lame excuse. Nobody is demanding these so called unique features. They just don't want to say " Nope not gonna port it"

Seriously if I was a game journalist I would just lay into any developer that said that.

It would be the shortest career ever but well worth it

So I have the deluxe Wii U but I'm torn on whether or not I should start buying my games online. I know they load faster, give me cash back, and take up less space but I like the artifice of having a shelf of disks. I'm thinking maybe I might start buying my games online and then picking up the discs when they drop in price.

I hope that we'll eventually be able to install games whole like you can on the 360.

I was torn on that too. I only did so for my 3DS games, since I like the idea of carrying multiple carts with me on the bus. Not sure I like the idea as much for actual consoles.

... But then again, I've been to 3 stores and exactly 0 of them have had Monster Hunter 3U in stock ...
Deluxe, especially considering you're getting MH3U digitally. That's five bucks back right there. No extra controller needed and you'll still have plenty of room on the built in memory to get another game or two later.

No controller needed? Hm, not even a Wiimote/Nunchuck or a Wii U Pro controller? Not sure how well the tablet works for MH3U / Lego City.

Lego City is glorious. The tablet is beautifully used. And the only choice you have as a controller.

And anyone with a WiiU needs to buy Lego City.

Honestly I've been averaging a game a month purchase on the thing plus eShop stuff. There's currently more releases than I can afford to buy. This problem will only get worse later this year with Mario, Pikmin, Wonderful 101, AC4, Rayman (if you get the 360/PS3 version you miss the co-op Murphy mode btw), Watch Dogs, Batman:AO etc. And there's still a good amount of eShop releases I intend to get. The system has games, there just happens to be a weird gap in the schedule. But that's also one reason I like Nintendo: They'll delay a game to make sure it's good even if it causes a gap in the schedule (Pikmin 3).

Also I recommend if anyone buys they console they should get the deluxe if only for the charging cradle.

I currently own ZombiU, New Super Mario Bros U, Need for Speed: Most Wanted U, Assassins Creed 3, Nintendo Land, and Lego City, and I can't say I've been very disappointed with any of them except maybe AC3 which I still had fun with (and is still probably the best version if only because you can play with no HUD). There's a few other decent releases too and a lot of eShop games. EG: If you enjoy pinball you owe it to yourself to get a copy of Zen Pinball 2 on the eShop.

This. And to be honest, I think the extra 50$ is well worth it. NintendoLand is a nice little game, the charging dock, the extra space and, although this is only my personnal taste, the black Wii U looks way better than the white one.

I don't own many games on the Wii U right now. I have NSMB U, Nintendo Land, Madden 13 and Scribblenauts Unlimited. Waiting for the future releases this year.

I bought the pro controller for Monster Hunter and lo and behold, I have yet to use it. I enjoy using the gamepad and it's super comfy...so go figure. I need to start using my controller some just so I can lessen the wear on the pad.

I do love the hudless tv screen though, that is wonderful. 8->

I may buy a charging cradle - they look pretty slick (I got the Basic pack). The only thing is looking around my living room I'm not sure where I'd set it up...right now I charge the pad on the arm of the couch.

I did buy a Classic Controller Pro over the weekend (found one at a local shop for $8 used, but it looks like it's never been touched) so I could play Mario 64. It's so much better than the old classic used to be. Incredibly comfortable - I have a hard time seeing the use of the Wii U Pro Controller when the classic is so nice and less than half the price new.

  • Skull2185Skull2185 Registered User regular
Ohhhh, there's the AC adapter, just no charging cradle. I thought you had to buy recharging accessories separate... :rotate:

My hope is that whatever Nintendo has planned for the rest of the year will help sales pick up, thus winning back confidence from third parties.

More well-made games is always a plus, so I definitely want to see third parties come around.

  • BigJoeMBigJoeM Registered User regular
That presumes third parties want to come to Nintendo in the first place.

Japanese third parties might come over if sales pick up.

Don't expect good western support with the exception of Ubisoft.

I wouldn't count on much support from EA from this point onward, but I think Nintendo themselves know all too well where the shortcomings in their software lineup lies.

I'm looking forward to unannounced games from partnerships and studios under Nintendo's roof that have seemingly been idling, or been working on a title in known secrecy, and I think that is where most of their most attractive games that aren't Mario or Zelda are going to come out of.

Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.

I got a little excited when I saw your ship.

It's all dependant on how the game was made.

For example: Lego City doesn't work with the Pro controller because it makes HEAVY and awesome use of the gamepad.

I have the Basic - I thought about the controller stand, but I also see there is an extended battery out/coming out that has sort of a flip kick stand built in which is pretty neat too. It's hard to spend $20 on a plastic stand when that same $20 could buy a game :)

I should clarify: The Pro controller works, but ONLY for the 2nd player. The first player is forced to use the Gamepad.

Not that I mind but a game like DW... I'm mashing the buttons a LOT and I'd rather not add any additional wear to the controller if I don't have to.

I know it's been hashed out before, but is there a list of what games work with the pro controller somewhere? I know most of the PS360 ports do (Darksiders, AC3, etc), but what about eshop stuff like The Cave or the VC titles? Does it work with older Wii games that supported the classic controller, like The Last Story?

I love Nintendo, but their peripherals drive me bonkers sometimes.

Kirby Epic Yarn is just exactly what I love about Nintendo. It's not enough that they make this charming platformer out of yarn and Kirby. They breathe total life into the yarn world.

Buttons and zippers and cloth and enemies are all so perfectly done there's rarely a level that doesn't have you grinning like an idiot at just how well crafted everything in the game is. Simple stuff, like the way you go behind the scenery you form a lump like Jerry hiding in a rug from Tom or how you unwind post-transformation segments feel so natural in the world that you almost don't notice them. It's a bit on the easy side, admittedly, but it is so much fun.

Kirby Epic Yarn is about one of the most charming platformers ever created.

Also I've decided that with the new Smash Bros, we really need more Kid Icarus support now that we have a pretty awesome cast behind the game.

The game needs to have Palutena, Viridi, Hades, and Pittoo playable...or at least make Pittoo an alternate of Pitts with the different voice acting.
