He's never denied culpability in Xavier's death, but his opinion is that he is unwilling to submit to justice until mutantkind gets it for themselves.

He's not asking for a free pass, he's asking for the treatment of mutants not to get one. I think in his mind, saving mutants from their plight is a more worthwhile path to redemption than sitting in a prison cell.

And again, that perception that only he is capable of doing this is exceptionally arrogant but it's not an accident that the storyline that started him down this path was called "Messiah Complex". You are acting like he thinks he can do whatever he wants, but that's not his frame of mind at all. He's not trying to "get away" with murder, but the salvation of his race is more important than the death of one man to him, and he dosen't see anyone else doing what he feels needs to be done so he's gonna do it himself.

He already tried the giving himself up thing, and in his view it was not working, so now he's trying this.

Last I checked murder and escaping prison were grievous crimes, and you do not get a free pass on grievous crimes just because your doing humanitarian work. Seriously, any other person on earth would still be in jail, so why does Cyclops get special treatment. (Aside from the diplomatic stuff).

It'd be one thing if he holed p somewhere and was directing things from afar, but he's not. He's running around, doing whatever he wants, and the moment anyone tries to enforce the laws he broke, he gets ready for a fight.

And in a normal setting where the Avengers or anyone on the other side wasn't in the same situation in previous years, you'd be absolutely correct. When Wanda gets checked in somewhere, or a pardon isn't just thrown in to hand wave conflict away, then Cyclops' argument for what he's doing gets weaker.

I'm not even against holding Xavier's death on Cyclops completely with no Phoenix influence (murder instead of the lesser manslaughter), I'm just saying it's hard to accept that in this instance now everyone follows the law to a T and acts like this is the first time in the history of heroes someone lost control. You cannot sell me that snake oil, Serpent Society.

Just because a character says something does not make it true.

cyclops is interesting because of how he now perceives the world and acts in accordance with what he thinks is right.

it doesn't automatically make him right or make him just in his actions.

You guys are acting like cyclops isn't being constantly questioned and countered. He is. He just doesn't care. That's an incredibly interesting change for the character.

Actually, forget what I've said, I think my annoyance at Cyclops is mostly from that image.

So he decides it's better if he becomes a fugitive and helps out mutantkind and he can face the consequences later. Fine; alright.. I can sympathize with that on some level.

I lose that sympathy when he decides to just run around in broad daylight, taking no action to conceal who he is, which winds up attracting the attention of people who have the NERVE to try and enforce the laws he broke and who at that point he pretty much forces into a fight. Instead of trying to avoid a conflict, he goads one on. That is where I lose any and all empathy for the character. He's shows no regret or even active consideration of him being a fugitive there. If he acknowledged the Avengers are just doing their job and he feels bad about having to fight against them, I'd have a different outlook. But no, he basically flips the bird and tells them to just TRY and take him captive. HE DARES YOU!

Like I said before; he should go hide somewhere, let his troops do the good work for him: he is too big of a target and his presence is likely to cause more difficulty than help.

As for how things have worked in the past; I'll admit I'm new to comics so I haven't experienced it that much. If that's the status quo of for the Marvel universe, then yeah, it's kinda crappy one someones part. Though it does make me wonder how the writers were going to make Cyclop's rap sheet go away in three years. :D

He is in hiding, the only reason they are out in public at that moment is because they took Eva home so she could tell her mom she was okay and that she would be living with them. The Avengers got tipped off on where Cyclops would be so they crashed the party on this poor girl's front lawn.

As for the way he goads them, it's because he knows it's a public venue, he understands the celebrity and the cult of personality that is forming around him, this is how he's getting the message out. He wants people to see the Avengers as aggressors when all he's doing is talking about mutant oppression.

Again, you can't see it in those pages because it happens before that point, but right before Cyclops goes into full "fuck you" mode he takes Magik aside and tells her "the second shit starts you teleport us home". He didn't want an actual conflict and had no intention of engaging in one, but he was perfectly happy to take the opportunity to use the situation as a platform to spread his message.

Okay, fair enough. He still comes across as huge dick there, though. Also, Cyclops should have stayed behind instead of escorting the girl home. Or at least stayed in the shadows.

How many Marvel heroes have been forced/trick/possessed/created something that has ended up with people dead. A few of them got dirty hands like Black Widow, while you got others like Hank Pym who created Ultron that wiped out a whole nation. Plus you know, the whole Civil War screw the government telling us what to do thing and all.

Buffy season 9 started well then spiraled out of control like season 8.

But I just can't not love a comic with this line in it.

"There is an unusual amount of leather in this room so I understand the confusion-- but this is a perfectly innocent discussion about an impending time pocalypse."

It kind of seems like Avenging Spider-Man is doing Spock better than the main book, in large part because it's avoiding squicky sex stuff and doesn't use Ghost Pete.

It's also nailing the character's voice, though, and the inner conflict between his villainous personality and desire to do good is pretty well-rendered.

They have started putting trades out starting from when Ian Flynn got on to the book, but it's very far behind from the current stuff. I do know they will be putting out Worlds Collide specific trades though.

The Walking Dead is getting pretty interesting. I wasn't a huge fan of Ezekiel (aka George Clinton with a Tiger) but I like that Kirkman is telling a story that's grander in scale than anything else he's done in the story to date.

A slightly late MotW, but my copy of Atomic Robo Vol. 7: The Flying She-Devils of the Pacific came in (I double-dip, I had the digitals since release but I will always buy Robo in trades as well).

Gail Simone introduction wherein she curbstomps someone for not liking Atomic Robo? Fantastic.

Finding out that all the She-Devils likenesses are based on real women? Mind. Blown.
