How does it learn Thunder Fang? Serebii doesn't list it as an egg move for Growlithe, but hey, I could be wrong there. And if I am, then oooo me wanty.
Is Flare Blitz better then Flamethrower? Arcanine's Attack isn't that much more than its SA, is it? Is 37.5 more power after STAB really worth the recoil?
Thunder Fang is a new move in D/P, as is Flare Blitz.
In some situations flamethrower would be better due to lack of recoil, some situations flare blitz is better. It depends.
Yeah, but even the D/P Dex on Serebii doesn't list it as an egg move. Granted, I have no reason to place extreme trust in that site, but hey, the database just looks so convincing to me.

this may be the best place to post but ...
for someone who hasnt played pokemon since the Red/Blue era, what exactly is 2v2. can you only switch one pokemon at a time, switch both, can one protect/heal the other by using protect/heal moves? how is the exp shared?

You can switch both pokemon out if you want, or just one and have the other one attack. Certain moves can be used to benefit your other allied pokemon, like Light Screen and Reflect. Exp is split 50/50, unless you have an experience share on one of your pokemon, in which case its more like 25/75.

Which is to say, it's a special move that can only be learned from the move re-learner.
Well when I gave them to the pokecare people, it said that they didn't like each other.
That just means it'll take awhile to get any eggs. Bike around for awhile. If the daycare man moves out infront of the fence, talk to him and he will give you an egg.
Okay thanks guys. also, should I walk around in the ash while I wait for it to hatch so I can make flutes?
Up to you. I usually just bike left and right on the mach bike on the huge stretch right infront of the daycare. The ash area is the best place to train pokemon for special attack, so I got more than enough ash for flutes just from that. Just gotta run from the skarmories (and sandshrews in ruby/sapphire)
OKay, thanks. And how hard is it to see a Skarmory? I want one so badly.
I dunno. I usually encounter two or so while EV training something in special attack. Kinda rare, but you wont have to be there all day or anything. They are somewhat hard to catch.
Just be using some form of special attacker while hunting for it, so it wont seem like such a waste of time.
Quick question: Is there a place in FireRed where one could determine the extent towards a Pokemon's IV level? I know there isn't one that would give a direct, numerical answer, but isn't there someone who will give you a hint as to how well off your Pokemon is?
there will probably be a good number of the old starters floating around the online trading world, and I know there will be floating around the PA community.
The easiest way to estimate IVs is to take a newly caught or hatched pokemon, level it up to 20 with rare candies so that it doesn't gain any EVs which would mess up the calculation, then input the stats and such into something like this. This will give you a range of possible IVs (that site calls them DVs). You can get a closer estimate by checking the possible values at other levels and narrowing down the range of possibilities.

I don't think theres anything like that in Fire Red. Only in Emerald.

Drat, really? I should have bought Emerald a long time ago, apparently.

There's lots of people (like me) who will be willing to trade off old starters. I've been breeding charmanders, squirtles and bulbasaurs in anticipation.
Addendum: I like Koffing/Weezing. What's a good moveset for him?
A good moveset right now? Sludge Bomb/Will-O-Wisp/Pain Split/whatever (Haze? Explosion?) can work pretty well. Weezing makes a great physical tank, but be carefull around special attackers.
As for in D/P, a bit harder to tell. That set would still work, but remember that Sludge Bomb is a special attack now. Weezing has a decent special attack, though, so you could pair it with things like Flamethrower, Dark Pulse, and Thunderbolt. Will o Wisp is still nice to ruin other physical attackers, but be wary about using it against things that have Guts or Flash Fire.
Doesn't Sludge Bomb becoming special actually benefit Weezing? I thought Thunderbolt/Flamethrower got paired up a lot with Sludge Bomb to give it an option against Steel. And, hey, 90 STAB, 100% accuracy, 30% chance to poison ain't bad at all.
Oh my god can someone please give me some tips on how to get the gold star at the battle factory?? I've thrown myself at the open level single pokemon match about 50 times and can only manage a feeble 28 win streak as my best score.
I usually try to get one fairly good sweeper out first, preferably with earthquake, as that seems to be the move that kills the most of the rentals that are used, then I have one tank/staller and another random one that I usually try to balance out my types. I also try to get a couple pokemon that are resistant to ground or flying because the computer likes to use earthquake a lot too.

Not soon enough!
Think so. Actually I'm pretty sure you can, but it might take some time.

Not very. If you EV train special attack on spindas, you'll encounter plenty.

If not, anyone willing to trade me a Charmander once the game is released? I'll pay you.

I can do that, but you'll obviously have to give me time to get through the game and transfer Charizard over.

Thunderbolt/Flamethrower/Fireblast
Haze/Rest/Explosion
Will o Wisp/Toxic
That'd be just fine. I only plan to use Charizard in competitive fights anyways.

WAIT I'M A MORON, HE CAN'T LEARN THAT ATTACK
Also wheezing's base special attack is only 5 lower than his base attack. No big deal.
