Knowing content like dungeons is temporary only makes me happy I'm not playing. It just turns into a job if I only have a certain time to see all I want in new content if its gonna be gone. Like a boss saying "finish these papers by monday next week or you don't get paid".
I'll go raid in WoW, Rift or TERA if I want to play an MMO like a job.
Yeah but I don't think of it that way? It's more like a nice surprise when I come on that there's New Thing. I don't feel like I need to grind to GET THE SHINY THING, like... ever.
Maybe that's your problem, that you're thinking of it in that particular way rather than kind of a neat shiny thing that can happen sometimes?
I want to play GW2 and love it so badly, but every time I log back in I can't find any solid reason to keep playing. I had so much enthusiasm for GW1 that I want to direct toward this, though.
For some reason the sense of completing and achieving things isn't as significant here for me as it was in GW1.
GW1 was hard and cruel. GW2 doesn't really have that, it's just terribly grindy.
I miss the hard, cruel masters.
This is like a workout metaphor. GW1 was high intensity interval training, brutal and effective. GW2 is running on the same gear treadmill for three hours at a jogging pace.

If I have to change my thinking in order to force myself to like something in a video game, then the video game isn't for me.... and I'm ok with that.
This content cycle is bringing me things that I enjoy doing; I am having fun playing this game on my first max level character again. I only wish the content was around a week or two longer so I can ensure I see it. At this rate, I'm logging in to experience it, not like Badwrong says as if it were a job, but because I want to experience that new content. Anything that comes out that doesn't interest me doesn't get my time.
This oddly sounds like every game ever published: I decide which I want and play them how and when I want.
So the new logging axe is out and I intend to get one. I would hope it has a neat animation like the other ones do.
As for content being left behind, I see a lot of people doing only a couple of dungeons and not doing any of the fractals and not going to Orr. I think stuff can get left behind with so much new content, but still leave it available for those who want to do it. Temporary content allows people who are uninterested to wave off some of the stuff and go do what they really want: farm the event chains in Orr for karma. :P
I've been sort of hoping that once they accumulate several timed mini-dungeons, they'll take them, tweak them, and introduce them into the Fractal rotation.
I remember a dev on the GW2 forums saying that's pretty much the plan, or at least once an event is done the people working on fractals get to look over the dungeon(s) that were part of it to see what they can do with it.

The new axe animation just.... shocks the tree. It becomes all electrical and makes a semi motorized noise then its done.
Its prolly the most confusing and least impressive of all the animations honestly.

Do people still farm those chains? Realm PVP was easily the better and more enjoyable way to farm the legendary karma. That Orr shit I did was mainly for ectos and mats. Super boring too, watched movies on my other computer while passively spamming AOEs.
Also what gives, @mojojoeo you swore off legendary grind a while ago, now the flashy sunrise has your attention?
They added more ways to get the things you need without grinding orr to death. Thats about it. Laurels get you T6. Fractals tokens, wuvs kharma earnings and daily jugs got me the kharma.
I do my ori mining in an hour and wuv wuv and each night get a little closer. ectos come from daily bosses for free.
I dunno. Just feels way easier than way back when when it was all about grinding plinx for hours. the only thing that will take a truely ungodly amount of time will be the final step- getting the precursor (ir saving up).

I don't mind the rotating content really. I just find that there's so much that was in the game at launch that needs some serious love to be improved and made fun. But it seems as if all of that development effort is instead being turned towards making high quality yet temporary content. It's what turns me off the game each time I come back to it. Once I've finished that new content, the rest of the game is still pretty much the same as it was at launch. And very often the new content is fairly short if I don't want to grind out achievements.
I really like the rotating content. It's kind of nice to have something new and exciting to deal with every couple of weeks. It keeps me coming back, otherwise I'd probably get bored with stuff after a while. I'm already pretty bored with a lot of PVE but the new stuff is great.
Also, some things ARE permanent. The jumping puzzle is permanent. And sometimes these events are used to test new things, like SAB was used to test the spring jump things and then Dragon Ball was used to refine their use and now they're seeing use in a new arena
which btw that arena is great
It's all just a game, you should really just relax.
Limited time content is not relaxing, just the opposite. Get it done NOW.
And note, its limited time content, not rotating content. Rotating content would be a completely different matter and none of my objections would then apply - because it'd be rotating back.
If Anet wants a truly "Living World", something that evolves over time, maybe make it more sandbox-y.

as for spies- Password's irrelevant as you will be challenged to speak in map to confirm your identity. Most cant.
I have some powers over there; Ie I can grant you talk privlidges. Most likely make a [Nice] channel so i'tll be just us- but by using their ts3 I can whisper chat with the other commanders and actually communicate better than map chat.
If our attendance is small enough we will just rock out the ret chan. but we will see.
just make sure you set up your name to include the guild tag. ie '[NICE] mojojoeo' Its a good ts3 to bookmark.
edit- i did figure out multiple ts3 connections so that on fridays we can use ours and I still have voice chat with other commanders.

Really, the substantial problem with limited time content is that if you miss it, it's as good as nothing at all, for both existing players and for potential new players.

Yeah, but a lot of it IS rotating. Dragon Bash, Halloween, and Wintersday are holiday events and thus rotating, as is the Super Adventure Box, and this Four Winds thing is likely to be as well. Pirates and Karka are not, but they added large, permanent things to this world.
Anyway, you've clearly made up your mind so there's nothing else I can say, I mean, if you're not having fun, just quit, I guess?
There is an adjustment to be made, we are all so used to grinding out every achievement and getting every last drop of loot that we can't accept missing an event or an item, even when the rewards are cosmetic only. The living world content is cool in that there's something worth logging in for a few hours just to experience, like the new dungeon or the story mission for dragon bash, but if you miss it it's no big deal. On the other hand, some of the achievements are kinda of grindy, like "So Lifelike".
I would like to see a team dedicated to improving the rest of the world, especially dungeons and PVE in general. It seems like they have a wvw team, an spvp team and four living story teams but no one improving the permanent pve experience, which is a bummer.

One problem I could see with an endless parade of permanent new content is eating the hell out of your hard drive space.
yeah that's a legit concern
Not really. Once you've downloaded the content in an update, it's done and there on your hard drive. The next update doesn't remove the data, it just locks the content from actual play.
So everyone has the data necessary for the Southsun quests, even if they didn't do them, even if it doesn't rotate back. It's now part of GW2's data files.

I think he's talking more about your hard drive being filled with more and more data that it doesn't even use anymore, because the event it was for is gone and never comming back, or if it does, not in the same way.
Right. Character models, whatever files they use to define the maps, texture info for unique characters, that kind of thing.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

gonna get dat logging axe
also I'm always down for Fractals - you see heaps of people doing the 30+ ones on LFG, and since they roll over and over again to do Swamp or Jellyfish at least once, it goes pretty quickly

But it being an endless parade of permanent new content doesn't make that worse, it's usually the easier on the hard drive. For temporary content, that stuff is downloaded anyway whether you played it or not. Even if you miss it, the next time you log in, the game will download those files which you can't use anymore. For rotating content, they're generally adding stuff when it comes back. For permanent content, what's done is done.
The parts of Guild Wars that eat the hell out of your hard drive is the endless parade of temporary or rotating content, not permanent content.
For example, my friend never played the Southsun meta launch event. He'll never need any unique assets from that, like movies. he has them though. He'll never get to use the Fervid Censor or Sclerite Karka Shell back peices, but they're on his hard drive. He does have permanent access to Southsun Cove, and can play all of its permanent content.
The temorary files are on his hard drive, he has no option not to have it, even if he can never access it. If they do another Southsun temporary event with temporary items and temporary unique enemies, and he misses them, he's got more on his hard drive he'll never be able to access. But he can and always can access the permanent Southsun content.
I really like the rotating content. It's kind of nice to have something new and exciting to deal with every couple of weeks. It keeps me coming back, otherwise I'd probably get bored with stuff after a while. I'm already pretty bored with a lot of PVE but the new stuff is great.

I am not complaining about the holiday events. Those have been around since GW1 and are not really part of this new 2 week release schedule.
Look, there's a limited about of developer time. I'd rather it not be spent on stuff that's not going to stick around. Especially when its wasted on crap grind stuff like placing random pirates around the projectors which no one cares about because its way more efficient to farm the guys at their respective supply caches. Or any of the "content" which is essentially kill/do something 100+ times.
You've also clearly made up your mind - that argument cuts both ways and is pointless. Its just declaring yourself correct.
Mostly what I'm hearing here is "deal with it" - but that doesn't really answer my question of why this is Good Thing and not merely something to "deal with". Its not the weather - its something being definitely decided upon by the devs, and I just don't see the point. Its like they're doing for the sake of doing it - so they can have a press release saying they are the only ones doing it.
There are plenty of ways to set GW2 apart, Anet just waffled on most of them. Maybe if they got back to focusing on that instead of gimmicks like 2 week content.
