I too find it useful to keep a picture of a butt on my refrigerator, just in case I forget what one looks like.

Is this a comic response to the bill that got passed during the election last November?

Cause if so, way to be late to the fucking party.

Yeah, that way when people are like "he couldn't find his own ass with both hands", it's a little easier to prove them wrong.

I'm sorry, but the fact that pot isn't flat out just a legal thing, is so dumb... It should be legalized with the same restrictions imposed upon it that alcohol has. Marijuana is a wonderfully awesome plant with like...no downsides. I guess heavy use can make you fatter..but other than that...

It's hard to openly support that arguement though since the majority of your allies are the "lolstoner" types that no one takes seriously.

At any rate, ha ha Butt!

Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

Well making it legal to possess helps big time when it comes to jail space.

  • kingworkskingworks Registered User regular
I don't use or endorse the use of pot, but if the government were to regulate and tax it like alcohol they would get so much money AND undercut illegal pot trade in one fell swoop.

Didn't they mention something about Gabe/Mike trying it in a controlled environment under the supervision of his friends within the last couple months? I'm thinking this comic is a late response to that maybe?

So it looks like I'm going to get all of my information about the new marijuana laws in Washington from PA. I get all of my video game news this way too.

Weirdly I'm really excited that they're doing this. I've been vaguely curious what the situation is now that the new laws are passed. Posession and use is legal, and in about a year commercial sale will be legal and regulated. But I'm curious, are companies still drug testing? Is there new drug tourism?

Does the punchline mean that Khoo tests Mike and Jerry?

The worst thing is using employment, or a possible loss thereof, as a deterrent for smoking pot. I mean, as long as you're not cheefin' it up on your way to the fireworks factory, there's no reason to even draw an association between the two. If it had any side effects, if it gave you a hang over, if you could start randomly tripping balls because you cracked your back, yeah sure you might want to screen for it's use among your employees, but it doesn't, so that's dumb.

But lots of places will random drug screen and can your ass if you've been juicin'. It's an actual consequence.

Sure, but that just makes you more productive. I'm surprised that there isn't a corporate loby to allow companies to force their employees to take adderall so they can work non-stop.

I think the drug testing craze is pretty ridiculous. A good employee who likes to get high occasionally is still a good employee. If the employee is high so much that it effects his work, well then he's not such a good employee and there's a darn good reason to fire him.

They don't drug test for marijuana because they think it will necessarily affect your job performance. It's not like they're still afraid of Reefer Madness or whatever. Since marijuana is still illegal in most jurisdictions, it's more about seeing whether you respect the law. The thought process, right or wrong, is that a person who doesn't respect laws won't respect company policies, directions from superiors, etc. either.

Plus, if you ever did come in to work high and there was some kind of accident or something and somebody got hurt, that could cost the company huge in a lawsuit. Whether the fact you smoked a blunt in your car before you clocked in had actually any real effect on what happened or not, let some conniving trial lawyer find out about it and huff and puff (teehee, unintentional pun) about it in front of a jury and that can lead to a much bigger judgment against the company.

If the trend towards legalization continues, some companies will probably stop caring about it, since the sticking point and lawsuit bogey-man of them having employees they knew (or failed to find out) were engaging in an illegal activity will be gone.

I keep staring at the rounded foreheads in the last panel and wondering "is this part of the joke?" They both look distorted from how I normally see them and/or how I expect them to look.
Tycho: tall, rectangular head with curved corner for jawbone
Gabe: round, ovoid head, less pronounced chin
Recent-ish comic that also has both characters in profile: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2013/01/16

And it's not exactly great for your lungs. I mean, it's not gonna kill you, and I don't think I've heard of anyone getting lung cancer from it. But regularly inhaling smoke of any kind (cigarette, marijuana, house fire) is gonna have at least some repercussions.

Thing is, marijuana users generally smoke until they're high and stop smoking. Cigarette smokers, not so much.

But regardless, there's always marijuana brownies.

Just to chime in, Marijuana in Washington is only currently in the legal limbo where you can own it, but can't buy/sell/grow it. The first part of the bill legalized possession, and at the end of the year I believe everything related to sale will be rolled out. They have to take the time to set up a regulatory body that can issue licenses for selling and growing.

I always wondered, after it's legalized, what's stopping Juan Valdez from any South American country becoming responsible for 5% of the US' GDP?

I mean you can have homegrown sure, but the best shit will always be from the endless fields in Meso and South America.

  • realisticradicalrealisticradical Durham, NCRegistered User regular
We seem to be drifting away from on topic but I love throwing in my two cents.

There's really no such thing as a drug without side effects. (Be it medicinal, herbal medicine, or those recreational types.) Consume enough THC and there are memory effects and changes to energy levels. Also, smoking it is still smoking something with the tar and carcinogens that go with inhaling smoke. Really though the question should be about relative risk. Cigarettes are a legal drug, alcohol is a legal drug. Is marijuana worse/more dangerous than currently legal drugs? In which ways and how much?

I find it sad that there's rarely a rational discussion on these topics from either the "Pot is evil" side or the "Legalize it" side.

Later the same day after making this declaration, rembrandtqeinstein reportedly caused a scene at Philly Pizza Company in response to disappointing information received from a waitress vis-a-vis beverage temperatures.

Looks like I was right about Mike drawing this one on his Surface. Doesn't totally explain the hydrocephalic Gabe and Tycho in the last panel, though.

I'd been waiting to see the newspost.

I've been following the news of Colorado and Washington's pot legalization way too closely for someone living in North Carolina. Sale will be legal in 2014 they just gave the liquor commission about a year to sort out how the licensing process will work. (I didn't look up the exact details on that so assume the number and liquor commission part is approximate.)

Probably a price crash. Most of the price is covering risk. Take away that risk, and it'll probably be little more expensive to get high than to get drunk. Maybe even cheaper, you don't generally need to smoke as much as you'd drink to get there, and you don't need to maintain intake as much to keep the buzz going.

I mean, yeah, it'd probably be a huge business, but not quite that huge I don't think.

Edit: I suppose that only really applies if it's legalized nationally, or at least in most states. With just a few states, you run into situations where even though it's legal at its destination, it may not be legal along its route and you get even worse hassles than you started with. You get that situation in the black market pet trade - a lot of pets are legal in Michigan that are illegal in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Ontario, meaning they often still get here illegally.

And this is exactly what non-smokers think of most smokers.

What is this I don't even.
