i'd say anime has similar proportions to other forms of media in terms of the good:bad content ratio
it's just japanese bad is very distasteful to western audiences

what i've seen of pmmm has been good.
i'm not hugely into anime so i'm not the best person to answer this stuff (i only watch the stuff that gets tons of critical acclaim, same as i do for any other television) but i never understood the hate people have for it
