Last year's Steam Summer Sale didn't start till July. I don't think we will any deeper discount for BNW but Civ 5, Civ 5 Gold Edition and G&K are nigh guaranteed to be on sale IMO.
It's high time for me to get on the road for 4th of July camping. And the GMR player before me (@Bevilr) had his turn expire 8 minutes ago. How long does it take until it rolls to be my turn? I expected it would be immediate.
I won't have the internets where I'm going and I don't want to be skipped.
Okay. I've played a game of Civ5. Did okay and stuff, and the game was pretty good. Then I stopped.
But this game has been near the top of the steam stats almost constantly for, like, EVER, and I'm wondering if I missed something. Is it the mods? Is that why there are still so many people playing? Are there any that are 'core'?

Achievements, the Gods and Kings mod, many different ways to play, etc.
I personally stopped until the Beyond the Monument helped me get a better understanding of Civ, now I can't put it down.

I think there is probably 2 sides to this. You have people who hear about "one more turn" and try it. But it is hard to do, and some of the concepts aren't put right in front of you. I am actually unsure, as I have been playing civ forever, is there a tutorial? So to me, these people play a while and leave.
Than there are the ones who have played forever, dig into the game, and get the extra concepts. Someone DOW you, and you don't have army. Lets trade my luxury for money buy army and stop! Lets sell that embassy to eak out that last bit of gold. I guess you don't have to be a diety level to enjoy one more turn, but you have to get past the initial hump. but that is just my opinion.
Yeah, but advisors don't tell you how to win IMHO. But I think it was mentioned, and even for me, it was a big help to watch that monument video and have stuff explained.

There are in fact a set of tutorial mini-campaigns. Vanilla Civ 5 probably has the shallowest learning curve of the series.

If GMR or Pit Boss are working properly/don't need a dedicated server we should get another game going for BNW. Sadly I think the PA Civ game is dead in the water from that latest patch.
I managed to take my turn in PA Civ for classy gents (@enc0re , @CanadianWolverine , @KafkaAU ). Don't know what changed as at least one of my other games is still non functional but PA Civ for classy gents just had it's first birthday and is very much alive!
Fair enough, seems the other one started by DyasAlure only seems to be dead. Just doesn't seem to have budged turn wise despite having a 3 day turn timer and me being on vacation for four.
Go ahead and send me a PM if you want to be in on a BNW GMR game. Hopefully I will start sending out invites tomorrow but it probably won't start till Tuesday/Wednsday or even later in the week due to work and figuring out game parameters.
True. I am optimistic about it being ready tomorrow but I'm it will probably take a few days/ a week to even get that far. But hey, get the players now so we are ready to go when we can.

Come to think of it, I can't trade for shit, so I could use guidance on how to make Civs say yes to things from getting a luxury good your city wants to knowing how much Gold you can get for a luxury item.

Just put the luxury in the window and say what do you want for this, or put gold on there side and say will this work. off the top of my head it is 250 gold if they like you. So 200 is you are ok, and just keeps dropping. Don't trade for less that 200 as you should be able to find someone. If you look back in thread and find that tutorial for civ the guy who plays diety he gives exact numbers on this.
Usually hitting the "What will you trade for this?" button over Trade and Refuse shows just what the AI will give and usually works just fine.
Once you piss other Civs off due to expansion/wonder envy/warmongering/etc it's pretty hard to get them back on friendly terms for mutually beneficial trades even if they are the ones coming to you to renew a previous trade agreement. :rotate:
Edit: There will always be plenty of city states and they've always been threatened by being conquered by force or Austria's unique ability if I understand your question correctly.
Or do you mean what happens to the previous city state Venice? They just take it out as a City State option in BNW and use/add another one.
Beat by DyasAlure. Don't worry about our game, brief as it is it is a good learning experience but if it's not worth rescuing we can start a new one or just jump into my future BNW if you're getting the expansion.
I am getting expansion, or got. so tomorrow? I'm off tomorrow... oh, I think Rogue Legacy might take a back seat.. when is pack? imagine little dog jumping up and down and panting!

Hey! I'm in that game too!
Don't know what to say . . . no you aren't?
You might be in a game with the other three, but "Vanilla PA Civ for classy gents" has been going on for a year now and only has the 4 of us left in it.
Been trying to host a pitboss game, and it's really inconvenient. I forgot what a stupid resource hog civ is, I can't play anything else in the meantime, I almost bought a second copy of civ to have a server on another machine be a spectate that I could leave 24/7, but it makes that machine chug in the first place and I don't think I can have a host only observe. I unplugged my network cable to do some rewiring, when I went back to civ I got "cannot connect to host!" and then it exited me to the main menu.(My fault, I wasnt thinking)
I don't think there's a proper tutorial in-game, but it does have those advisors that pop up constantly (until you turn them off).
Theres a "learn as you go" game where it gives you extra baby steps, but I tell people to just play on the lowest difficulty to get their bearing. after a full game you should get the gist of everything, but you dont ever stop learning new stuff about intricate systems and you dont stop making stupid mistakes

The only screenshots I've taken was in multi where F12 worked. Maybe this was your first in a singleplayer game?
Will we get a summer sale this year? Isn't it usually at the end of June?
