Yeah, LotRO had a 400% boost in the first month. (Which doesn't say much about how it stayed after that, but...)

I haven't said this on this forum at all, but I've been telling my friends that there's no way Blizzard doesn't bring the WoW TCG online at some point ever since they reacquired the license. MTG:O I'm pretty sure prints money, Blizzard makes money, it just makes sense. Super smug about seeing that coming, and tentatively interested in seeing how it turns out.

That said, I predicted tying in to WoW where you can get template cards (i.e. there would be 5 or so hero cards that are just "warlock" with different abilities) that you could then put your WoW character on and play as them. I still think some kind of tie-in like that would be really smart, but we'll see what happens.

Blizzard has already done something simular to this in the battle pet mini game in WoW. It's small scale like Hearthstone, doesn't bring any innovations to the base genre but delivers a well polished and designed experience. I trust them to give the same level of polish and gameplay to this one as well.

I think that might be what I'm most butthurt about. I want to play a card game associated with the MMO I'm playing, and I'm not into WoW anymore. :P I really enjoyed the Everquest card game while playing everquest. God knows I have so many loot cards.

I know this game isn't even out yet, but with no Death Knight or Monk Heroes initially available, how long before they release the first expansion?

No trading cards kind of sucks, but oh well. F2P.

No trading cards in a collectible card game, wot? Even Nintendo's terrible online platform for the pokémon tcg lets you trade cards with other players!

    Steam ID: Right here.

They probably decided that trading doesn't mesh well with the crafting system.

No trading also means they don't have to fuck around with how to stop people making a million alts to feed cards to a main account. Sounds crazy, but having played some free to play card collection games, I can see the value of just taking the easy way out. Eternal alt farming of free stuff is a major thing.

Instead of trading, you can "disenchant" cards to get arcane dust which can be combined to make new cards from what I've read.

The more I think about it, the more I like the removal of the resource row/quests, and turning it into a automatic thing you gain every turn. Makes it so that you don't have to dilute your deck with boring things like lands and waste the limited number of draws you get per turn on them. And yet, you can still have things that mess with resources, like the summoner that makes stuff cheaper, or the super-cheap demon that destroys a crystal when it comes into play.

It also means your cards have no inherent value to anyone else besides you. So a gold farmer won't have incentive to hack your account DE all your cards and transfer the dust out to sell on some site or be able to fully build up a deck to sell to others without spending loads of cash.

A few months ago, I was joking around with some guildies in WoW about this very topic. They already added Pokemon to the game. If they added an in-game TCG that could be played while waiting for dungeon queues or the like, nobody would ever log off again.

Not playable in-game, but you can obviously alt-tab out, so close enough. Though figure out a way to implement it within WoW itself, and... yeah.

I long ago came to the realization that CCGs aren't for me. I got suckered in with the WoW on because in game loot, and I think a lot of other people did as well.

I gotta say, the more I learn about Fantasy Flight's LCG style, where a new pack comes out every month that includes all the cards in the set, it becomes a much more worthwhile setup for casual gamers. I hope this game follows that model; rather than random boosters, you buy expansion packs that include everything you need. I doubt it, though, because I don't know if that model is financially feasable for a FTP style game.

There's that, and also the fact that you'll get screwed by unlucky draws a lot less often. It's always a bummer in MtG matches when you or your opponent get stuck on 1 or 2 mana for the first five turns with perfectly legitimate decks, or the other way around and it's nothing but lands for the first five cards. The only real drawback is no interesting resource cards in themselves (I like that MTG lands can do some really cool stuff like turn into creatures), but I think the tradeoff is worth it for this game.

WoW TCG had interesting ideas with resources in the quest system, but I'm totally not averse to blowing that out of the water. I am super excite for this.

It's funny, 2 years ago my friend and I were at PAX East and had some time to kill and ran across the WoW TCG area on the floor. Threw 15$ down and did the beginner's session. Absolutely loved it and bought another starter deck each. Played the hell out of it in the hotel rom at night then the following year at pax brought our decks and did the same :)

The whole time we were saying "man I wish we could play this online". Since all our friends are spread out as we get older and no one really wants to invest in and store tons of real-world cards.

I was so stoked when I saw the announcement. I got to actually play it (the line was moving fast) and it's a blast. High polish. They removed/simplified some things from the actual TCG but I had fun with it.

Wizards of the Coast dropped the WoW TCG awhile back when they did their whole cleaning house thing. They pretty much dropped everything except DnD and MTG.

No, it didn't. They just released the 2013 Class decks. I just bought the Worgen Warlock one.

    A) Wizards never had the TCG; Blizzard went with Upper Deck first before getting screwed by them and just going with Cryptzoic.

    B) They're still doing it considering WoW still gets patched with TCG stuff. Betrayal of the Guardian is the next one.

That's probably it. It probably went into limbo briefly as they switched publishers and I just assumed that meant it was dead.

I still see it at Walmart with the pokemon cards, but it's next to the Angry Birds erasers, so that never gives me a strong impression either way.

I loved the raid decks from WoW TCG, I'm betting they won't duplicate anything quite like that in Hearthstone, though I would like to see that quite a bit.

I'm actually realizing how sad I am that I got rid of my old WoW cards since I found my Molten Core raid deck last weekend while cleaning up and a bunch of old WoW buddies are coming over for International Tabletop Day :(

The raiding was their best idea, though I never did it.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they're focusing on 1v1 for this TCG, though. It really does seem to be something to do to kill the time while waiting on your real raid. :P

As a person that was never too involved in TCGs as a kid. I'm really excited for this game. It allows for an entirely F2P mode, similar to League of Legends, from what I've heard so far. Other then Diablo 3, Blizzard is known for quality games and I can't wait to play it.

That is a story I want to read more about. But the only thing I've found so far is Upper Deck counterfeiting some other brand's cards.

Heard the proposition that RIAA and MPAA should join forces and form "Music And Film Industry Association"?

Didn't Upper Deck also do The Spoils which also went south?

I think I'll like this. Not as "deep" as I'd prefer, but hey, I'll take that production value and sometimes you just want something lighter.

They can do a lot with the mechanics that they have there already, I think it'll get a lot deeper over time.

Yeah, the launch sets for CCGs tend to go easy on mechanics.
