How do I attack enemies without right-clicking on them?
Seems fun so far, btw.
Using an ability will initiate auto attacks.
You can also use the ` key. It's funny, I was wondering which key initiated auto-attack and thought "Well, the ` key did it back in Asheron's Call." and pressed it. Sure enough it worked!
But, my video card decided to puke out on me today, so no more LotR til it's fixed.
Speaking of screenshots...Any Dwarven CHampions or Guardians got any for me? I'd like to see what I could -potentially- look like.
I'll post mine later on. I've got a Dwarven Champion who's wearing almost all yellow named gear, with two purple weapons. The dude looks like, and can slay an army. I get propositioned to pull people through higher level instances alot because of it. Also, shame you all are on Landroval, i'm on Brandywine. Do we have any sort of presence there?
I'm not sure about PA having presence on Brandywine, but then again I'm not even in the Society yet. You should post those screenshots asap though

I'd post them right now if I could. Most of pictures I have are pretty outdated so I wanted to get new ones. For some reason when I go to log in on him the game can't get past the loading screen. I'm guessing (and hoping.) that the zone is just down.
To give you some perspective as to what he looks like though he's wearing the purple constables shirt from the epic quests, a red set of large shoulderguards I got off of some unfortunate Barrow-Wight Prince, a set of blue mailed looking leggings that also have a kilt around the waist, and some decent gloves. His two weapons are a single handed axe and club. The axe is the level 15 Champion quest one, while the club is some crazy weapon that a guild-mate gave to me. The club also does fire damage instead of common damage, so it pretty much rips apart anything it hits, especially undead and treants.
Edit: In lieu of that, since I can't get on, here's some pictures of the MPVP area from Closed Beta. Note that the pictures are kind of large, so I spoilered them.
Also, this game has an incredible view distance. If you go to the Barrow Mounds south-west of Bree be sure to look around for Dead-Mans Perch. The view is pretty impressive. Here's what I mean.
Looks like the servers are back up. Here's a few pictures of my Champion. I had to use Thumbnails since Imageshack refused to resize them from 1280x1020 to something more manageable. Just click on them to expand the picture.
for those talking about the lute/music playing thing...
There is apparently a bug for some classes.
You can gain the skill at level 5, but it doesnt actually activate until 10 for some reason (as in it doesnt register that you have the skill if you try to equip an instrument).
I discovered this after i spent all my money buying a lute... at level 6. Its apparently being discussed on the LotR online forum.
Edit:
Squirly - the guild is on Landroval. All the info on who to contact in game and whatnot is in the first post.
Yeah, sorry for the no warning. We had to - if we had given any warning, y'all would have been cleaned out by the people who knew about the exploit.
-Meghan
I know they won't tell, but I'm also so damn curious to know what the exploit was after its been fixed. Ah well, good that they are fixing it quick, they actually shut down the AH last night before the patch because of this too.
Someone said something about clicking 'ok' a lot or something. At least they shut stuff down and are fixing it.
On another note, I went and scouted out the arochs in the area for my tailoring quest to be able to learn expert... and ehhh I don't think we're gonna want to go tangle with the level 26 elite cows of doom. >.> Sooo there is no mastering journeyman tailoring before release.
But then again, I'm looking at a guide saying he's level 21. I shall keep searching for the named cow of doom! x_x (Trampletusk if anyone is out and about in the Lone-Lands.) I'm going to be bopping around looking for his furry butt when the servers come up.

So... at what point do I figure out what the horse travel spots are really, other than the name of the NPC running it? I ended up taking some... Interesting side-trips to towns I didn't even know about before just saying the heck with it and running through the marsh to the Forsaken Inn. Or is it just me?

My understanding is that people who were entering no buyout were actually entering 0 buyout as far as the database was concerned, and people could buy those items for 0.
Simple database snafu, basically where the default was 0 instead of "" or Null.
Success! I found Trampletusk! And he's a level 20 signature mob! Buuuut we need kinship peoples online. >.> He likes to erm.. trample me when I try to hang out with him. <.<
So, um...how does anyone manage to keep track of their buff durations? They only show up for me when I mouse over an icon, and even that's tricky, as buffs don't tend to last long, so individual buff icons are frequently shifting to the left during their short time below my power bar.

Good question, I haven't really played a buffing class so I'm not sure. Minstrels do have several group buffs, but if you are going that route, you pretty much are always working towards refreshing them. (You have to play ballands in sequence to unlock the higher tiers where the good buffs are).
I wish I could be playing right now :P Damn you working for a living!
Anyway, Just want to remind people who are joining now, if you see somone looking to give away stuff (especially crafting materials/recipes) please let us know if you have preordered or not. While I don't have a problem sharing, generally we'd prefer giving stuff to people whoes characters won't be deleted in a couple of weeks.

The plan the entire time (as was clearly stated in the OP) was to be on Landroval. That's where the guild exists, and that's where it will remain. There's nothing wrong with playing on other servers, but The Barrovian Society is Landroval-based.
If there's anyone who wants in who hasn't gotten an invite yet, just contact me (Edros), and I'll take care of it. Also, I got wood last night. ;-)
Glad others are liking the game as well. I know it is pretty carebear, but the touches like the draw distance (the feeling of being in a world and not a zone), the music, the quality quest writing, and wonderful world design make it really fun to play for me.
If anyone is interested in maps, my wife made a few for our site, so far we have Bree and Thorin's Hall
Our last 5 comics or so have been LOTRO related as well. Been having a great time with it, just wish there was some chat logging.
Out of curiousity, how many of you are going for the $200 lifetime thing? It is tempting, but at the 9.99 a month founders fee you would have to play for almost 2 years to even break even. Will I still be playing this in two years? I find I generally spend about 1.5 years tops on a game before the next shiny comes along.
Warhammer Online and Warhammer 40k MMO will both probably suck me in, and if Conan manages what they want with their combat engine that could be really fun as well.

And we took him down today, Glongrim, Rindae, a friend of mine named Illiana, and myself smacked that cow down. So yay for more tailoring! =D

These are exactly why I'm not doing the lifetime thing. Though I'm enjoying the hell outta the game right now, I think there's very little chance I'll be playing for more than a year or so. Still, 10 bucks a month is great entertainment value.
Unfortunately I won't really be on much this week, I don't think. Or next, as I've got finals coming up in my weird school schedule. After that, though, I may hit 15. Finally. And replenish my massively depleted wood.

I am in the same boat. LOTRO is great fun right now and I'd say it one of the best MMOs (excluding EVE) out right now. However I think I'll only be playing until Conan or Warhammer comes out and after seeing that Dev walkthrough video of Conan I think Warhammer may also end up being another filler MMO for me to pass the time till Conan comes out.
Axen on
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
Yup, I'm in that bandwagon as well. I plan to stick with the $9.99 / mo Founders price for awhile, but $200 is just too much to stomach, not knowing the long term appeal of the game. I mean, the field of available titles (and my own time to play them) can change a LOT in 2 years.
2 handers seem to be intended for Captains. Guardians have a good line of offensive skills that react to a shield block. I wouldn't want to give those up, even soloing. The stated DPS on 2 handers isn't that much greater, in my experience.

Turbine's always been good with this stuff. They don't discuss the exploits, but they fix them damn fast. I remember that stuff happening in AC, and always being pissed because I was too curious.

I am a freaking nerd.
Guess 800k people on 11 servers was a lot to ask for.

I like the Loremaster as well. Not sure if I will preorder tho.. summer is coming and I really dont need to be playing a mmorpg

Grimal, 11 Dwarven Champion.
My weapons SUCK. So hard. Yet I still kill stuff easy.
heh....as a grown man, I took way too much glee in running around the fields of sheep in the starting area and....
[dun dudda dun DUN] "baaa!" *flop*
And then the devs fixed it, and I couldn't be the serial sheep strummer with my Dis-Chords of Doom anymore. So, I've moved on to rabbits....

The damage isn't that much greater, and my Guardian relies a LOT on his shield and the reactive skills it provides.
You lose Shield Blow (huge DPS skill), Shield Swipe, and Shield Bash (Massive Taunt and stun)
