As far as I can tell there IS no box. You have to hit a pixel.
Which means if there are trees around and you're trying to hit a plant with no width (only height) and there are leaves in the way... move the camera so you can see it and it disappears. Can't click.
Kinda frustrating.
Bah, I'd rather hit tab, or try and find that pixel, than have to click around in a circle trying to find the corpse I wanted to loot (ala Vanguard). >.<
Yet another thing about WoW that was done perfectly, no matter how much people hate the game.
One thing the game could use is implied targeting. That is the name given to it in EQ2, and I think it also exists in COH/V.
Basically, if you throw a hostile spell at an un-attackable person, then the game assumes you instead really want to hit THEIR target. In EQ2 there is a window telling you what your target's target is, in COH/V (from memory) I think it just works that way with no visual indicator.
It allows you to all be on the same target VERY easily which makes the group roles easier to maintain. Just set one person as main assist and everyone targets that person, letting THEM pick targets for the group. This means the tank can taunt one mob and not have to worry about people wacking on something else (with the exception of AOE damage), the rogue types can handle positional attacks knowing that the target they are on is also the one the tank is taunting, etc...
Great for healers too as long as the tank is also the main assist. They can keep their main healing target without being afraid to target the enemy to attack them with offensive abilities.
Without a feature like this, I always find groups a little chaotic with everyone just doing their own thing and hoping it works out in the end.
If LOTRO has this feature I have totally missed it. If they do, then disregard the above. I have only grouped a few times since closed beta.

When I slaughter 10 people at the same time with my prot pally, I have to skin the mobs so I can loot the mob under it. And if it's unskinnable, one time i had to wait for the looted mob to fade before I could loot the mob under it.

Indeed, far from it. This thread is not a place for WoW fanboys trying to shift the MMOmentum (see what I did there?). In fact, I think I speak for everyone here when I say that if there are any WoW fanboys posting here that aren't playing LOTRO, they should get the fuck out.
Anyway, logging on now. Gonna tone my l33t skillz in prospecting and weaponsmithing for a bit.

I am not one of them. I am a realist. I think that WoW was successful because it is the best game that has been made in the last decade or so, and the numbers support it. Not just general sales, but in "Nerds Hooked" as well.
However, for the same reason, I think some MMO has to replace it. I've only hit 14 on my Human Champion so far, but the structure of the whole thing seems very solid. I'd love to see them put player housing and more expansive PvP in LOTRO, and I might invest as much time into it as I did WoW.
Please leave out the reading between lines. I did not reference WoW first, nor did I say it was perfect. I'm just throwing out opinions like everyone else.
Has their been much detail at all on what is going to comprise the end game, or more to point, what is there going to be to do once you hit 50? I find it funny I didn't used to care about this before WoW, possibly because the level grinds in previous games to WoW were so intimidating, you felt like there was already enough to go through prior to max level.
I like and dislike some things about the game so far. Good use of single player instances to move the narrative along, lots and lots of non combat quests. The deed system is pretty cool, though in the end it's more like overarching quests for quests. I like that you can 'retrain' your traits. I don't like that my burlgar feels weaker with every level I climb. I don't feel very directed, or rather, I feel overwhelmed by the number of quests thrown at me. I almost dread going to a new town to find six new quests waiting for me. I do like being able to choose what I'm going to do, but after having to sift through 20 quests in my log to find ones pertinent to my locale I got a little frustrated.
It doesn't feel as polished as some other MMOs, but that's acceptable given its newcomer status and beta condition. I think they could pull in a side-audience of the MMO market by providing competent content that isn't addressed in other larger MMOs. The response to the music system has been interesting, and I think if Turbine focused a bit more on those 'side-benefits', things like player housing, the music system, what might normally be called 'fluff', they'd find some more subscribers.
For me it's definitely a wait and see, to find out what they expect folks to be doing at 50.

You're going to love Bree-town. I'm pretty sure you could max out your log on first entrance.
I don't like that my burlgar feels weaker with every level I climb.
What level are you? Level 10 adds medium armor and dual wielding. Burglars supposedly don't really *click* until 20-22, and then their dps gets better and better over their 30's and 40's though there's still a gap between them and champs/hunters.

Raiding (24-man), PVP, and crafting are supposed to give reasonably closely bunched gear, as well as maybe 6-man instancing. They've strongly suggested that they're going to extend the storyline and release at least a couple of zones over the course of the year to keep resetting "endgame" rather than trying to pack a static world full of a year of content like WoW. (Though I've heard there's actual content coming in the next WoW patch). They have a strong record of being able to do this with AC1, though of course with the increased graphics demands it's likely to be harder.
Also, in their last chat they indicated that player housing, guild housing/storage, and music system upgrades were very near the front of the pipeline for post-release.
Considering the rate I level at, I'll be spending any endgame time playing WAR.
Still, if it stays as fun as it is now, I may be faced with the horrifying prospect having two active MMO subs at the same time, if just to talk to Barrovians who are still around.

I'm saying the loot box you said was perfect in WoW isn't perfect. If I have to learn to no read between the lines, you should learn how to read lines in context.
Although I probably could have communicated it better by saying "WoW's isn't perfect."
Or, if you JUST want the visuals, then this is a somewhat standardized agreement on how to remap the keys so that the accidentals line up properly with the naturals. I think the article is pretty nice though, and I know he is chomping at the bit for the next music expansion that will allow for more depth.
Psomm below is from the official boards and has come up with a pretty nice solution. Brasse just made the pretty picture.
I'm a huge Warhammer fan, and heard from Morskittar over at WHA that Six Mouths was going to be playing here on the server I'm on. Perfect opportunity to hang out with someone I respect, and have a good time. Would appreciate a chance to fellowship, or have you take a chance on me :P

I'll prolly switch over to Landroval on release, since I (apparently) can't do pre-orders in my area anymore.
Currently sitting pretty at 15 on Firefoot, with a couple other gaming friends.

Good times tonight. I'm making serious progress with my professions. Tonight, I was tearing ass (and by that, I mean "walking around without dying") through the North Downs, mining Rich Iron and Gold. Had a pretty productive haul, too. I love the crafting system in this game. And I'm really tired, so you'll bear with me if my shit isn't making much sense right now.
Anyone who feels like mailing some treated rowan or treated ash to Edros would be forever my sugar daddy. Seriously, I can't gather it. I need it to beef up my woodworking skill.

Man, you devoured all my wood. Once I have time to play more, though, I'll be happy to supply all my wood and stones to anyone in the guild; I don't have a lot to do with them.
Am I the only person who wants to make my significant other make a character called "Preacherman" and then have them adopt my characters so I can put up the "Son of Preacherman" title and play 'Son of a Preacher Man' on my lute?
I must be disturbed, and now I can't get that darn song out of my head.
Thought I'd contribute some screenshots for folks. I'll spoiler them to avoid Horizontal Scroll rape in case photobucket let's me keep them full widescreen. It didn't. The photobucket resize really doesn't do these pictures justice from their full 1600x1050 glory. At full size, they look GOOD.
Field of Dandelions. The thing you don't get from the pic: they were waving in the wind.
A few environment shots from my dwarven character. You can see detail a LONG way out.
I never understand how sick I am of WoW until trying a new game and realizing how much I love seeing abilities that I haven't memorized the purpose of. Sadly, one of the things that drew me into WoW was the utter mystery of it, having no idea what lay ahead, but my time in that game has caused no other fantasy MMO ever, short of maybe WAR, to have the same mystery. I know what 24-man raids are like, I know what PvP is like. I didn't then, I do now.
I'm not saying I'm not going to play an MMO...it's just that that MMO has to draw me in based on actual merits of gameplay instead of how overawed my (then) MMO-nubby brain was. I made a Hobbit Burglar on Firefoot, and am going to be rolling an Elven Minstrel on the same server later tonight. I'll post my name here afterwards, see if we can't getting some groups going.
EDIT: I will say that LotRO seems to have the best chance out of any recent MMOs. It has a persistent world backdrop, which is important, and it's the first beta (even at this stage) that I can play and say it honestly has some technical goodiness. Words. I tried the Vanguard beta back in early January, and although I'm not going to mention my myriad problems with the gameplay, the technical aspects alone drove me away. Ugly textures and models and a really shitty-feeling play...meaning rubberbanding, collision detection issues, facing detection issues...
I'm disappointed that LotRO doesn't have the stealth + dps class, but it'll probably be for the best. In the meantime, I'm going to be playing with an RL friend who is making an Elven Champion, so I figured an Elven Minstrel would be the best pairing. Any thoughts regarding that?

I already tried to make a male character named sue for pretty much the same idea. Name was already taken sadly.
Speaking of resources, I'm working on Artisan and Master Expert Jeweller now, and I need a restupilous amount of silver, gold and platnium ore, along with any gems that pop up. :P
The auction house confused me a bit. I couldn't sort stuff by usability to me? Boo. Loving everything else so far though I wish the horses didn't cost so much to ride.
So what the hell is up with the Scholar profession? When I'm on my bandit who is a tinker, I can buy my shit from provisioners or whatever then just craft my ass off. When I'm a Scholar, I can't find the shit to farm with, have to BUY my ore/ingots for weaponcrafting, and all the stuff for Loremastery is from drops? Wtf...
You can purchase the consumable items needed for farming from farmhands, which are located near the few three or four farms in the game.
As for getting scholarly crafting conponents, try equip some scholar glasses and exploring humanoid bad guy encampments, like bandit camps. You might find things like Urns or Vases that you can loot for relics and whatnot. This thread has a little more information about the scholar vocation.

WoW isn't perfect.
They have this feature, I think its called pass thru targeting in the options menu.
I am a freaking nerd.
a) Is this Mac-compatible?
b) Is it any fun? Does it deserve my WoW time?
a) I dont think so.
b) I think its fun, but it helps if you have an interest in the source lore.
I am a freaking nerd.
Exactly. This game is WoW for people who like Lord of the Rings.
Yes, level 14. And if you want the leet rogue dps then go champion. They're a debuff/cc class first and foremost.

Is the Beta client actually the final client? Or will I need to install the actual client once the game is released?
Also, our characters will transfer to the release if we preorder, correct?
Correct on the transfer, and I believe you can use the same client...
Care to clue me in?
