I found the game to be really enjoyable but I'm not sure I can afford it right now.
IMO I'd put a bit of time between WoW and another similar playing fantasy MMO.
The last thing you want to be is random player 2164 in Bree whining about how WoW did this or that better.
As an aside, it's freaking amazing how many people seem to think that Blizzard invented MMO's with WoW. And if anything does something similar they're "ripping off WoW". Nevermind the years of MMO's prior to that, that did everything wow did, maybe not as well, or maybe not at the same time or in the same game, but WoW itself really has/had virtually nothing "new" in it at all. And this is from someone who played WoW a lot for over two years.
It was fun, but goddamn... my system just can't handle this game. I was getting huge framerate spikes on Medium. Kills a lot of the fun.
I got much better results from turning down individual settings than I did from changing the global. Try turning off shadows, ground frill, and bloom lighting.

This is true. I am one of those people. Er, a person who started on MMOs through WoW, that is. I don't constantly complain about how much the game is like WoW. It's actually the opposite in that there are some features WoW had that I wish LOTRO would have, like being able to see if anyone else in your fellowship has the same quest.

See, those sorts of things I can see people getting through mods, or in future patches to the game. A lot of WoW's features started off the same way, people made mods and it just kept getting better.
Beoleofu is now lv 38 and I've done most of the quests in the North Downs. Should I be heading to the Trollshaws next?
You should have gone there at like 34! But yes there are lots of good quests there for 38ish.
I just finished the Advanced quest deed there at level 39.
Also at 39 I have been doing the beginning quests for Misty Mountains and Angmar.
Since you are really the only kinship member near my level let me know if you need help doing stuff. I am always up to do a quest again to help someone out.

I bought the collector's edition and a timecard like 2 weeks ago but the game is boring me to shit! Who wants to buy my game/account?
Seriously though, what a total disappoint. It's like WoW but completely soulless, and every quest involved walking somewhere for 10 minutes first. I hate to compare this to WoW because everyone is doing it, but Turbine is basically calling that upon themselves because everything is done in such a similar style, but generally worse. Does it get better? I have a level 12 hobbit minstrel but it bored me to tears, then I made a Dwarf champion which was initially a lot more fun but then, again, I only had quests that involved walking back and forth for like half an hour.

I'm not meaning to troll here, so go easy on me.
Its not for everyone. I like it, obviously lots of people do, but you're definitly not the first person I've heard use the word "soulless" to describe it. It rips off WoW, because WoW ripped off EQ, which ripped of UO, etc etc. If you hate running back and forth between towns to hand in quests, then the MMO genre as it exists right now may not be your thing. Like all MMOs, it does get less like that at higher levels, but then the higher levels have their own quirks and problems.
What the hell? The game doesn't come with a month of time? So now I have to pay another 40 bucks to play a game I just payed 60 for? Or am I doing this wrong?

You get a month's time for free. After that, you get charged monthly, or however you set it up when you created your account. If you end up disliking it before your first month is up, I am sure you can cancel without them charging your credit card.

I dont have a credit card, so I ended up having to buy a game card code from Shattered Crystal. Can't really refund that .

Yeah, sounds like you're out of luck there, then. I think it's common practice for most MMOs to require either a CC# or a game card when you first create an account these days. Sorry
if you don't want to buy game cards and you don't have a credit card; afaik all the MMO's take those reloadable "gift" credit cards. You can pick them up most any grocery store or wal-mart. They look just like a gift card except they have a VISA/Mastercard logo on them. You can just put cash on them whenever and use them just like a credit card online.
I know several people who have used them for other MMO's so I don't see why they wouldn't work with LOTRO.
I got to level 16 and then 17 last night. I don't play every night, so I've pretty much always got that blue bar of enhanced XP.
I decided to check out the Lone Lands (a quest Fed-ex'd me there) and I picked up a whole bunch of white, yellow and orange quests when I was 18. They were pretty much all hunt quests. Each goblin killed was getting me 140XP, and when I finally turned all of the quests in I was a sliver away from level 17.
I'll be spending a lot more time in this area. However, I still need to finish my Epic - Prologue branch.
I really didnt mind running all over the shire for all those quests when I realized that me running over to the next post office / tavern meant getting the same xp as running around killing wolves for pelts or whatever.
The shire is so pretty on max settings I don't mind running around at all. And the running speed is fairly fast as well, so it doesnt seem to take too long. The only trouble with the mail quests is finding the damn post office in the next town.
I love my Hobbit Burglar though, the class is more fun to play than I thought it would be. Quarro of the Harfoots is getting alot more play than my Dorf tank.
Yes, the Shire is gorgeous, but it is also quiet as well. I was killing wolves and slugs for some deeds, and I couldn't believe how peaceful it was. Of course, I'm just silly enough to have OOC still turned on...
Since this thread isnt very active (compared to g&t standards) should it be moved to the MMO forum where It would stay on the first page a bit longer? I personally think it would be a good idea.

That way this thread can be used to answer questions for would-be players, direct newbies to our officers/server/guild, general hype about the game, etc. And those said newbies wouldn't have to listen to me yell at Esh and Davor for not logging on. :P
Plus, I'd like the actual guild forum to be a little more active. If we get active enough we can stop mooching off TSM and get our own. Hopefully the patch tomorrow will cause a population boom and we get that critical mass of people.

God, I really want to try this game. I played WoW since launch but haven't played in several months, but now I'm getting the MMO itch. I'm hoping that if I cave in I won't be bothered by all the nuances that WoW has which always led to me cancelling my subscription - yet again. Plus, I mean, it's LOTR.
On a side note, anyone have a friend key? Because that'd be like, awesome. I'll give you a hug.

and candy!
Its pretty good. For some reason people complain about the graphics but that's just silly IMO. Particularly for a MMO and even for gaming in general the graphics are excellent. There's great style and detail, and some vistas are just breathtaking.
I renewed my WoW for a month last night to play with some friends, dunno how long it will last, but I can say that LOTRO really spoiled me in the graphics/sound department. WoW seems rather drab in comparison, and WoW doesn't even look bad.
If I up and quit WoW again, which there is a good possibility of, I'll likely pick up LOTRO.
Despite what I just said, to be quite honest I'm a little sick of fantasy sword and castle MMO's. I would have killed for a Starcraft MMO, but oh well. I played anarchy online to death and the world really really needs a good space MMO (not EVE or SWG).
Id buy into EVE if it had out-of-spaceship stuff, like wandering around space stations or planets for brief missions and also inside your own ship (with your own crew that you can pick manually, better crew cost more but give your ships a little boost in performance). (jesus christ why has no one done this yet)
So, my captain now has laryngitis. Worst change ever? They could have at least given us a bloody toggle option for it. Meh...I'll try to save my ranting for after finals and hope they fix it by then.

So what does everyone think of the little changes?
I'm going to have to get used to the music system again (and remap my keys again). But I noticed that on wind instruments you can now hold notes and play much shorter ones as well.
I've also noticed that all the little icons for items have been redone, they're more colourful. New sound effects and graphical effects as well. I'd gotten used to the old way, I'm not a fan of the more colourful way so far.

Wouldnt bother me either way, as I have it bookmarked. Honestly, I'd rather all the actual guild chatter go to the actual forums, here: http://209.237.86.137/sixmouths/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewforum&f=13&sid=2586bb45aa62c256071c703fa62db256.

I have no problem with this either.
Was this thread to discuss the game or PA guild stuff?
