I'm not a fan of the new background colors on crafting items. They look a lot like quest items now.
Other than that, my Captain is VERY happy with changes since he can buff himself now, and his power consumption has been lowered significantly. Along with that, Fate has been made more potent.
Still can't heal myself though unless I kill something (or get a crit) first.

I agree it is anoying, but if we could heal ourselves at will (beo is a lv 39 capt.) then we would just be unstoppable soloers. I do wish they didn't change that mark from adding crit chance to just adding damage so that we'd be able to up our chances of getting a heal off just a bit.

The new floaty names font is odd, I liked the old one. Also can't find a good size for it so it does not look misplaced.
I like the new borders around skills that are in use and next in line. Big help for my guardian.
The patch notes mentioned increased engine performance. Have not seen anything of that though, still hanging around 30 fps. Maybe 1-2 fps increase, but not even sure about that.
Yeah, I don't have FRAPS running so I can't tell if there has been an increase in performance. But I was getting high numbers already.
As for floaty names, I noticed that damage dealt to enemies, the font scales based on distance. I always had floaty names off so I don't really notice the change over people's heads.

Yeah, I don't like the new font. Is there a way to change the size? Maybe it's the same font and they just defaulted it larger... I want it smaller.

Agreed. I also like the art revision, for the most part, though as someone else said, the crafting items are now confusable AND inconsistent. I have one thing in inventory that was a crafting drops from a signature, and it still has old-style art...

My machine seemed to improve a bit... Granted, my CPU/motherboard is the bottleneck (1.8GHz P4), so I can often pump up some of the graphics capabilities, as long as I cut back on distance/#objects. Things seemed to be running smoother last night, though, with far less stuttering than I'm used to. (Of course, all that should be far less of a problem once I Boot Camp my MBP this weekend.)
The options menu has a scale now to adjust the floaty names font. However no matter what size you make it, you can't get it to look like the old font. I noticed this becuase quest updates still show up in the old font, and at least to me, its a very noticable difference. Granted I play at 1900x1200, so perhaps that has something to do with it, but still...
Speaking of performance, aside from getting driver updates from Nvidia, and keeping windows updated, is there anything else that can be downloaded or configured to increase performance? I remember when I got Company of Heroes I was able to download.... something that really helped with performance, but I can't recall what it was. Anyone have any tips? What about graphic options that are a major resource hog that are not very noticable? Currently I have everything at max, but I would like to get about 5fps more in areas such as Bree and when traveling in open areas such as Bree fields or even the Old Forest.
oh man how i want to play this game, but being the poor college kid I am, I dont usually want to get sucked into an MMO without first trying it lol, anybody know if a trial has been announced yet? Or maybe someone has a spare friend key lying around looking for a good home. >.>
If anyone used Particle Response Indicators before, you're in for a retarded fucking treat. What PRIs are, is a little graphic that shows on your hand when you perform an action that enables a responsive skill.
ie: A Guardian can't use his Shield Bash skill until he blocks. So, when you Guardian sucessfully blocks, a little graphic shows on your shield. It was nifty.
Now, they've added new sounds to the PRIs! Whoohoo! No, not cool. The sounds are very annoying beeps. Playing with my Guardian now sounds like this:
Retarded. The only way to disable the sounds is to disable PRIs totally. Not a HUGE HUGE deal, but I don't like that I now can't use an old feature I found useful without having a totaly gay new feature bothering me.

They also took out the yell sounds for my Captain. Now we get a sort of muffled explosion sound when we shout. I didn't really like the yells when I started her but I miss them now that their gone.

Every time I get the chance to parry and attack a little green flashing button appears and there is a beep sound. Am i supposed to do something to parry the attack?
Also, I'm really enjoying this game. It's just a good RPG, nevermind the MMO aspect of it.
The story is great, the quests are plentiful and it's not overly difficult to get fellowships going.
I also like that instances don't take several hours to complete. I can run and instance with a group in this game. The last MMO I played (City of Heroes) I was unable to run the Task Forces because they always just took too long to complete.

No, the parry is automatic. The green flash is there to let you know that you parried something, so you can use abilities that trigger off of parries.
Surely one of you fine gentleman has a spare trial code? Send me a PM and I will give you kisses

If anyone is interested, GoGamer.com has LoTR:O on sale for $29.90. Which has been the cheapest I've seen it online.
edit: Also I just ordered this. I don't suppose anyone has a spare Friend Code they can send me so I can get a head start. You can upgrade your trial account to a full account right?

A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
This is how to get a free buddy key without having to bug on this forum.
1) Call: 781-407-4020 between the hours of 12pm to 9pm EST.
2) When asked about what kind of support select: Account Management
3) When asked about what game select Lord of the Rings Online
4) When the person on the phone answers, they ask you for your first and last name, give it to them.
5) When they ask you for the account name say: "I don't have an account, I was told if I call this number you would give me a buddy key".
They will tell you to hold for a minute, but when they come back they will ask you if you want it emailed or if you want it written down (25 chars long). There you go! Enjoy the game.
I can confirm that it is completely painless, and that they're giving away buddy keys like candy.
I fully expect the game to drop to $20 within a month. MMO's can't keep initial sales up at $50, and most people are either excited enough to pick it up in the first few weeks, or hesitant enough to wait for it to drop to budget pricing. Which is completely understandable, and the company only loses a month of pay by doing this (which Turbine is likely making up for with the lifetime subscription plans, which I doubt will ever break even).
I hate that they pretty much all have guts. Just isn't right. Hell, the only one that had a "gut" out of the four (in the movies at least) was Samwise.

That's a horrible comparison. LOTRO isn't selling half a million copies plus every month. They're doing good if they've even sold half a million copies.
So, my main just recently passed lv 40. What is the deal with these books/pages?

I was just in a group with a leader who was insanely cautious. We were trying to do the troll-related quests in the southern part of the North Downs. The trolls are all roughly around the level 29-31 and elite.
Anyway, the leader seemed to want to avoid fighting the trolls as much as possible. At one point, he sent the level 39 minstrel in our group out to scout for the cave since the trolls are grey to him. Meanwhile, we're just sitting around for like 20 minutes. Finally I said "It'd probably be faster if we just cut our way through trolls until we found the cave." His reply: "I don't think so."
My suggestion that it'd at least be more fun was ignored. Anyway, the 39 minstrel finally locates the cave. He comes back to lead us there. Another person in the group suggests we just run for it. For some reason, the others decided to go along with it.
After I ended up getting snared by some bog lurker and killed by the train of trolls, I just said "I have to go, guys" and logged out. That's the most ridiculous experience I've had in the game so far.
I hate that they pretty much all have guts. Just isn't right. Hell, the only one that had a "gut" out of the four (in the movies at least) was Samwise.
Does anyone have a buddy code they'd be willing to send my way? Even with this weekend thing going on in DDO, it's just not doing anything for me right now and I'd like to give this a spin. It would be much appreciated.

God, that reminds me of so many nights in EverQuest...
Holy shit the Turbine staff is nice. I called them and asked for a buddy key, and he told me they were out for the day, but if I gave him my email address he'd mail one tomorrow. :^: Turbine.
I hate that they pretty much all have guts. Just isn't right. Hell, the only one that had a "gut" out of the four (in the movies at least) was Samwise.
Read the books.
I have...several times. In fact it's a yearly thing for me since about 8th grade (I'm 26 now).
I still don't remember any mentioning that they all had to have guts.
So, my main just recently passed lv 40. What is the deal with these books/pages?
There are three books for each class, and the books are random world drops off humanoids in the 35-40 range. Once you get one for your class, your deed log eats it and tells you to go talk to someone in Rivendell, depending on your class. For instance, Burglars go to Bilbo and Captains go to Boromir. That person will update you with the task to collect the pages of the book.
For each class, one of the books has pages that are tradeable, and drop for anyone, again off 35-40 humanoids. These can be bought on auction, farmed for as normal, etc.
The other 2 books have specific areas where the pages drop (2 areas per book), and will only drop for people who need them, like quest drops. Still pretty rare drops, though.
When you get all the pages for a given book, you get one of your class' Legendary Traits.
Right now I'm stuck playing Guild Wars and drooling over all the pretty screenshots of LotRO (and listening to everybody else play it with envy). Anyone willing to give a friend's pass out so I could perhaps try this it? I'll love you forever

Well, the end is nigh! As suspected by my lack of being on, I'm pretty much done with LOTRO at big ol' level 39.
In the end the middle earth buzz wore off before I found anything worth while to keep me playing, which is not what Turbine was hoping for I imagine. I think one of the major factors is the world is just so damned small. The other is lack of diversity (Everyone runs the same, attacks the same, sounds the same, looks the same, and with such few class choices everyone is the same).
So enjoy the game boys, I am going to relax with a rye and coke and wait for WAR.
Wee you can rub me off El'Captain position and I've taken my name off the OP too.

So I gave my buddy key to my wife. She plays for ten days, and loves it.
She decides to buy it. However, you can't just buy a retail key apparantly. You still have to go to a B&M store and buy the box?
That's dumb. She has the game installed...why can't she just pay the $45 for a key?
you can probably find it cheaper then $45 now, and I agree, but that's usually part of the publishing agreement, as stores don't like digital downloads.
Anyone have a spare buddy code? Id like to try to download the game (I heard you can get it from Turbine's Site) and give this a shot, The downside being is that my wife has a thing for MMO's also and I dont feel like dropping 80 dollars to try it..If I can just give it a shot then I can see if it would be for us and then KNOW it's worth dropping the coin on.
