I hope my Geforce 6600 GT makes the cut without exploding. I'm still a way off getting my Geforce 8800 GTS seeing as it requires a new PC top to bottom.

Almost there, time to hit the sauce to make the night go faster.

Just so I understand it, Intel Duo E6400, 2 gigs of DDR2 and a Geforce 8800 GTS meets the minimum requirements right? Right?..... :D

I'm running a 2.4Ghz Athlon XP with 1GB of RAM and a GeForce6600 (not GT) 128MB card and I can run it pretty smoothly with everything on Medium. It's not nearly as nice as the uberscreenshots, but it's still very pretty. You should be okay to play.

I'm kinda scared because I have a LCD monitor with a pretty huge resolution and a pretty mediocre setup, so it may not run great.

LCDs look really bad at non-native resolutions. Since they're actually 1280x1024 pixels(or whatever) changing it makes it look awful.

Are you serious? You...didn't play the closed beta, did you? That means you haven't actually seen the game yet, all you've seen is screenshots. Trust me, if there's anything this game doesn't need, it's a graphic overhaul. The high-res textures haven't even been added yet, and it's already one of the top 3 most beautiful games I've ever seen.

    AH! Nooo.

    Barrovian Society.

    We're not full of cows.

Numbnuts. It's not the Bovine society. It's the Barrovian society. :x

And I'll be happy to start the guild if I manage to be the first one to log in and register it. I don't want to be the leader though. I'd be happy to be an officer, but I'm not going to be on 24/7, so I wouldn't make a choice leader.

    Two quick questions:

Will the Open Beta use the same installer as the Closed Beta or will it be a new build?

Also, will Closed Beta accounts work for the Open Beta?

It's pretty staggering how well designed the graphics engine is. At it's best it looks and runs better than Vanguard yet it can be downgraded for even the shittiest PC (with limits of course). Any future MMO that wants to be successful better follow in example.

Just a note on the server opening time, for anyone interested:

I just placed an entry in this thread:

    http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=32361

So now that's taken care of. There's still the matter of adding a player-list to the OP. I guess we can all come in and post our names, and then Sir Oddjob can handle the duties. As far as being an officer goes, I think we should limit the number. Too many cooks spoil the pot, as it were. Additionally, it's a good idea to keep it PA-only. I don't know if we're allowed to have different guilds for different characters (in GW, you're not), but The Barrovian Society should remain strictly PA, regardless. Let's say...one guild leader, and...between 3 and 5 officers, depending on how many people join. I claim officer status for myself seeing as I named the guild. :D

How will we choose the leader?

Perhaps, for now, just a council or team of officers. If need be, we can elect a guild leader from within that group.

I'd be happy to help manage things for now, though I'll make no promises in the face of WAR's beta or release.

Unless anyone's raring to be the GM we could just have 6-8 officers manage everything, while people are just fooling around and leveling up. We already have a built-in messageboard. If people hit endgame in several months we can designate people in charge of PVMP, endgame instances/raids, etc. Some sort of self-organizing socialist commune, is how I envision it. Nobody has to do any non-fun work.

This guild is likely to get fairly big; pre-open beta hasn't even started and we already have about 20. We should be prepared structurally.

Ugh, waiting until tomorrow afternoon is going to be brutal. To pass the time: I'm thinking my main is going to be a dwarven minstrel, though I'm sure there will be plenty of time to experiment in beta. What is everyone else thinking of playing? Are the newbie areas close enough so that the different races can group up early?

Hobbit burglar. (Mostly for the shire, but I'm also looking forward to my feign death class racial!) They're pretty much everything I'd like a rogue class to do. Stealthing solo missions is a ton of fun. I may or not play an alt - none of them excite me much compared to the burglar but I do live the dwarven guardian's screams and the minstrel's steady, shadow priest-like control.
Are the newbie areas close enough so that the different races can group up early?

The dwarf and elf areas start to blend together around level 10. I think humans and hobbits do too, but my level 12 human was still in the area around bree.

Does anyone know where you can download the high-res textures still? The link I used to have was on the beta forums and has since vanished.

I'd also like to know this as I don't want to have to wait until release to see the high-res textures...

I'm not sure if it's true or not but someone posted on the old forum saying that they would not be releasing the high-res textures through download but only with the pre-order box :x

Tis the truth. The high-res textures come on the pre-order dvd, not via download.

Right, they are on the pre-order DVD but they were also available for download during beta. Not sure if it was official, but they were available, and I wanted to get them again since I no longer have the download.

You could get your textures set to "Very High" with the downloaded Beta. To get "Ultra High" textures you needed the DVD, since it's another gig or whatever of just textures.

To get EVERYTHING available right now:

    Download client
    install client
    insert DVD
    choose REPAIR
    Run launcher to update

This way, you will get the highest res textures AND the in-game cinematics. You won't get the intro cinematic, which won't be released until the retail box.

Edit; This is how Dwarves express their excitement!

1280x1024 was just an example resolution. 20" probably has a higher native res. You cannot display resolutions higher than your native resolution at all.

    www.tychonia.com, for those interested.

Just hit up the forums or email me @ jeremy@tychonia.com if you want in.

This is both a fan site and a Kinship site, but the pertinent areas are clearly indicated.

In Beta, "Down" simply meant that the servers are now up. "Closed" meant that they weren't coming back up.

The "Do not Enter" sign changes to an X, which means they're in the process of starting em up.
