I did post this in discourse, but for some reason it didn't show (I'm new around here)...I found this article regarding ticket scalping, and I think the opinion that buying scalped tickets should be a shunnable offense as far as etiquette goes is valid. Any thoughts?

Can you prove you're not a scalper.
And I mean, I guess you could program a spambot to say shit like that but it seems like it would be a lot of work. So I can't really, you'll have to take me at face value until I can post on more shit.
Only Federal Officials should be allowed to sell tickets to said events
also, all other goods and services
It's not...but people buy them just so they can scalp them, and it artificially inflates the cost of the badges. Which is why it's illegal in MA.
oh yeah selling tickets for jacked up prices is shitty
but you said "buying scalped tickets" so i thought you meant the end-user
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
yeah, if someone has to get rid of some extra tickets I don't see it as a problem
becomes a bit more of an issue when an individual purchases huge blocks of tickets for a high-demand event and tries to re-sell them outside the venue at grossly inflated prices, but that's something that the initial ticket vendor should take steps to prevent
The problem is when the end user buys said scalped tickets, it encourages the scalper to scalp tickets some more so they can make more money. If no one actually buys the artificially inflated scalped tickets, scalpers won't be able to make money and they'll stop scalping.
It's just a little strange when your first post on the forums is a new thread, with a two-line discussion topic that links to an outside website.
But it is PAX weekend, so there's also an influx of new posters that pop up around that time.
Yeah, I understand the skepticism (I would be too) but if I'm a spambot I'm an awfully intelligent one.
Just thought the article was pretty spot-on.
the problem is people buying tickets just to resell them
people who want to go to the event shouldn't have to police the re-sellers
They shouldn't, but unfortunately there aren't a lot of really good ways to get rid of them other than a one-per-customer rule, which I don't see being implemented anytime soon...so it stands to reason that the best way to get rid of them is to get the bottom of their market to fall out. I mean, it probably won't happen, but we can dream *shrug*
It's kind of like puppy mills. It's definitely the fault of people running the puppy mill, but as long as people are buying they'll keep doing it even if it's wrong.
signed you up for a bunch of mailing lists HTH
A reddit user with the same name has also submitted a number of geekparty.com links to that site. Could just be a devoted fan, though.
Soldiers should be able to collect trophies of war and get a cut of the slaves and gold we capture.
Are they sexy
Hail the Helvetica? I guess there are some people who really don't like comicsans.
Devoted fan here. Definitely not a spambot. At least I hope I'm not some kind of sophisticated AI meant to post spam...but then again, how would I know? o.0
You're in a desert, walking along in the sand, when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise. You reach down and flip the tortoise on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping. Why is that?
Also make it cheap cuz tickets to performances are apparently mad spensive.
I like turtles.

It's just a hypothetical, no need to upset.
