PhD Funding for Canadian in UK (On short notice)

I was recently (yesterday) accepted to study towards a PhD in the UK. Unfortunately the research council application deadlines have already passed and I am trying to get together at least a small package of scholarships to help cover some of the costs. As a Canadian studying abroad there are very few resources from Canada that are still available to me. I will have some access to loans in the first year but due to annual limits on student loans in Canada for overseas studies it will be difficult to pull off without some scholarship/funding. Generally I am classified as low income for bursary purposes.

Does anyone have any ideas of where else to look?
Anyone know of any funds/scholarships that would be applicable that are still taking applicants?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer - PA forums seems to be the go to place for advice on any problem you could possibly have.

The uni should have some internal bits and bobs to help you out.

In the UK though it's very strange for students to seek out grants. Generally the research group does that. What is your supervisor saying?

Grants also start all year round, so there'll be another round coming up shortly I'm sure. What's the subject? That stuff obviously dictates which bodies will fund you.

The school has very limited funding resources for first year phds - there are more options for second and third year. It's in War Studies at KCL. I've sent an email to my supervisor and the funding department so I'll see what they say when they get back to me but looking around it seems pretty limited at the moment.
