I was just looking at that site you listed. It's got an impressive amount of info for a game that we can't play till Wednesday.

The thing I'm looking forward to the most right now is finding the most toxic unlife worthy planet in space and try to eke out an impossible living on it.
There are some planets that will be entirely too cold or poisonous to survive and explore normally. I'm going to build a base and a hazmat suit and try not to die after stepping five feet outside my door.
They confirmed last night they will have dedicated linux servers at beta start, so I should have something dedicated for us ready to go. If we don't have a crazy amount of players, I can host a vent server off the same machine pretty easily.
Here's the rundown:
Me and Nackmathon(real life buddy) will be mods, I'll promote some others to join a common sense mod brigade to stop shenanigans. These people have higher rights on the server for enforcement only, and arent to abuse their power. Server will be open to whomever wants to play, don't mess with other peoples stuff, and 'don't be a dick' are the rules. Don't exploit things like hitting through walls, or willingly work around the spirit of the game. Jolly cooperation is the name of the game, I don't think pvp is in yet, but that has to be dual consent for now if it is in.
Tech specs:
Server is a VPS I got a great deal on for life, with plenty of hardware to run games and whatever I need on it. It gives 2tb of bandwidth a month, so unless this game goes crazy or we can handle hundreds of players at once somehow, bandwidth shouldn't be an issue. If it ever becomes and issue, I'd have to ask for donations to handle the overflow costs(I don't ever forsee this actually happening). I haven't been able to stress test the server yet. What this means is I have had 5-10 people playing minecraft/TF2 and using vent concurrently without an issue. I don't know what the upper bounds of what the system will handle. But it won't be like the MC server I ran where it was 4-10 players only and really laggy. The speeds on the VPS are extremely nice.
Server will update to the newest builds asap, if it resets worlds/characters/mod compatibility or not. This is of course unless something massive breaks with a build with no eta on a fix(it's happened when running the MC server). I am open minded on this, if we really do not want to upgrade to a new version for x reason, I am willing to talk it over. I really like new features though, so I am inclined to stay up to date. I should not have the same issues we had with minecraft maps this time around(we constantly lost them to corruption and my occasional dumb fuckery).
Timeline:
I'll try to have a server going 1pm est (release time, supposively) Wednesday but I'll be taking lunch from work to go set it up, so I cant make huge guarantees that it will be running before 5pm. If something wonky happens, I won't be around to fix them. I expect release hiccups on getting stuff started. I might be able to ssh in from my phone, but that is awful if you saw what I actually had to do for that.
More stuff will come up, the more we learn about the game. I'll get a twitter account setup to give info out about the server. It seems to be the best way to send notifications out to those interested without spamming people.

I guess since it's beta and they will be lost to time rather quickly, my choice of race isn't super vital.
I'll just treat the character wipes as losing communications with our intrepid explorer, and the new one I play is being sent to try and find him/her!

It was mentioned in last night's stream that they're working on a system to convert character saves between formats when they change. So the frequent losses might be less frequent.
They said on the stream that the streams were not to be recorded and distributed, but they seemed mixed on if they actually cared or not. It seemed more like Leth being told to tell us not to do it and he didn't care.

I know that previously their policy has been "plz no recording", but unless I was misunderstanding something I saw over on the Starbound forums, apparently that policy has gone away since impending beta.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Sometime after midnight on the stream, Leth was asked about recording from one of the other guys talking, they both seemed to be recording the footage afterwards so I guess it's ok?
Yeah they specifically said on the forums that streaming the beta and stuff was A-OK
I was talking about how Leth normally doesn't want his streams recorded. He seems to think it discourages people from coming to his stream when he's live since they can catch it later.
Which is a shame because he usually plays pretty late at night. This seems to be D2's footage though, he's probably a lot more lax about that.
If you go to your humble store page https://www.humblebundle.com and you have the OST then you already pre-ordered? I don't know how far back they offered the OST with the game, but it's one way to be sure.

Hopefully people really read those beta phases notes.
It could be a pretty bump ride (but a glorious one).
I feel kinda sad that I only have 25 hours in Terraria. It just didn't click with me. I found the art style boring and same with the music. However from all the things I've seen and heard about Starbound so far... choo choo hype traaaaain.
I like how Apex look. But oldtimey, swordswinging robot. Glitch also have nicer spacevessels.
Of course, one race is still kind of a blank.
Edit: Oh, just read on Starbounder that you can get another race's ship. So an Apex with great sideburns could just Grand Theft Glitch for maximal style.

Aye.
So much left undone in that game. For some reason I just couldn't play it anymore after I found out about Starbound. Kept getting building ideas I wanted to save for that special planet.

I'm very interested to get the opinions of PA dudes about this game. No doubt I will get it at some point, I played the hell out of Terraria so this seems like it will be so much more than that. Some time when I can afford to buy games again.
I don't see how it could disappoint though, it just has so much potential.

Sadly, that feature won't be in at beta launch.
That's alright. I'm sure I'll have lots to do with bug reports and trying to crash the game without making baby monsters love me.

A lot of people on the forum have started linking to it.

I'm quite excited.
I want to fly around a pretty place in my pretty spaceship building pretty things.
I like the IDEA of being a robot, but I feel like I want to try one of those other, less traditional races
I am going to be a penguin man.

The guys playing a bit dumb, but to be fair, we'll all start out as noobs on Wednesday.
