probably then, I just saw the spot on top of the door and then one next to it and slightly to the right so I assumed one of those was just a power generator (mostly because I assumed a door couldn't produce a current)
Remove the backwalls from behind him. Beam up is disabled by having something behind you on the backwall rather than by having something above you, so I imagine this uses the same criteria.

for the purposes of boss spawning there's a different set of criteria (I tried exactly this)
if the game thinks they're enclosed it won't let you activate them
on an unrelated note, I have now captured two monsters that were extremely powerful fighting against me but do literally nothing when called out, regardless of if I've aggro'd things or not
also they get one-shot by basically everything on the same planet I found them
Huh, so in my little mountain peak farm I set up I spawned a human villager and he promptly walked out the door to die. I guess they have a mind of their own and don't stay in a building?

Yeah, it was just too close to the walls. Sorted now. I don't know what all the fuss was about, the robot is a lot more balanced now and I could definitely have beaten it without cheesing. Someone said he'd two-shot me even with the best gear, but he was only taking off about 10-20% of my health per hit while wearing full scout armor.
I also found a doctor spawner, so now I have a ship's doctor who I'm going to call Bones. He's a Floran, and is wearing a doctor's jacket and glasses, but also a druid's hat with antlers on, and a sickle. I just hope his knowledge of human physiology is better than Zoidberg's.

things that are fun: taking an assault rifle with the slow bullets (they move at less than walking speed for a few seconds then fly extra fast) and set up a barrier of constantly firing bullets that enemies can jump into (and if they do take far more damage than the individual firing ones deal)

Procedural guns are fun. A sniper rifle with 72 damage a shot for 1 energy, AND it sets things on fire? Sounds awesome!
Then you fire it, and oh wait that's not a bullet, that's a flame puff. And it still fires at sniper rifle speeds.
Still using it, because it's better than any of the other guns I've found so far.

So, what does one need to do to get into the server? I'm enjoying playing this enough as is I don't mind looming impending wipes, it'd be nice for the stars to not be so lonely. It won't make them any less terrifying, for certain.
Butterfly Boost is SO good. It's my go-to tech right now. You jump normally, then jump again while moving in any direction, and you just ZOOM in that direction. You cover distances faster than Energy Dash (no terrain to slow you down), move farther than Double Jump or Rocket Jump, and navigate any jumping puzzle with repeated boosts in any direction. I've yet to get Targeted Blink, though.

Is there any way to switch techs without pulling up the inventory menu? I like double jump and the high jump, but I hate having to use the inventory to swap them.

I love how just about every issue that exists with the game right now is actively being worked on by the devs.
Also, if we're comparing Pirate metal, may I present Alestorm and "Keelhauled", the video that taught me that "pirate metal" is in fact a thing:
