It actually just requires 1000 dirt blocks per piece.

So when are we getting ship expansions? It's getting a bit crowded in here.

You know, with how every single metal in the game gets a version where you improve it by mixing it with coal, the top tier of gear should just be "fuck it, make that shit out of pure coal"
The coal is used to remove impurities, it doesn't actually get mixed into the finished product. Coal armor isn't really good at anything besides giving you black lung.

Considering that you make the stuff on a high-tech anvil rather than a furnace, I'm pretty sure you're mixing the two together.

Don't interrupt me when I'm setting up.
So NEO, how do you power your spaceship again?

Currently, a blend of uranium, plutonium, and solarium.
If you're just starting out, you probably only have access to coal.

You can install the ship customization mod now if you want, that lets you make your ship any size you'd like.
I agree though, official customizable ships would be a boon for this game. IMO making cities in Terraria = customizing your ship in Starbound. It's hard to have an attachment to any one planet, especially as there are 10 different sectors, and the resources in early sectors become less important later on (except coal of course). But we will always have our ships, and those are the only things you can't fully customize right now.

Decided I wanted to make a burger so I claimed a planet to make a farm out of since I don't believe in half-assing anything. I can't remember the co-ords but there's a giant "Claimed by Kanden" sign at the spawn, so don't break the surface if you go. Trying to get everything flat.

negative. Heat is used to remove impurities from the material you are working with because you are exciting the molecules and atoms enough to break away from each other and you simply pound out or strain the impurities away. and in fact steel is iron with the introduction of carbon molecules into its molecular makeup.
and with the invention of the carbon fibre nanotube, it's actually interesting that for the same amount of weight or volume of material, carbon fibre is hands down stronger and lighter than steel or aluminum, and it can be weaved in such a way as to be a plate or cloth.

You can actually make multi-level farms as long as there's no backwall. Just make sure to space it at least 4 blocks high so you can go in and harvest.
I didn't see the point in making burgers until I realized that unlike steak, they actually heal you as well as reducing hunger. Now I'm on an all-burger diet.
Update time! Don't know when, but soon of course.
Changelog for v. Offended Koala 15/12/2013
There are a whole bunch of improvements to balance here, particularly in the early game.
We aren't wiping characters or worlds, but if you want to experience the proper balance
you should make a new character/worlds to play it on!
Also..
- Experimental gun rebalance
- Experimental biome settings
- Streamlined mod support, more details here
- Unique monster changes
- Enable plasma guns
- Fix naked NPC merchants
- new portable pixel printer item (you must unlock tier 2 for it to show up in crafting).
- Tons of new blocks and items to craft
- New random encounters with unique items to find
- Lots of work in progress server changes
- Pets only attack npcs that are attacking the owner
- New songs to play on instruments including christmas carols
- New novelty hats
- Pets now level up
- you can no longer warp to gas giants
- Lots more fixes and small additions
Also made this dragon head entrance idea. I think it needs refinement or to possibly be made out of castle bricks.
And the server's already up to date (which is an impressive response time, server duder), so you can go ahead and let it patch.
*edit* Oh my god. The gun rebalance worked guys. SMGs don't drain energy super fast anymore, so Twin SMGs are now viable! I'm now gunning down all the wildlife with twin "Storminator"s and grinning like an idiot.
*edit2* Correction, I went back to the vendor to see if the guns they sell had changed, and their damage seems to be up a bit too so I've upgraded to two "Deathmaker"s. They make death.

Hm, I made a new character and started on a world that said it was forest but when I transported down it was desert. So I explored around a little and found that it WAS a forest world, it just has a desert in it. I'm not sure if that's been in the game or is the result of the experimental biome stuff it mentioned, but I've visited a lot of planets and never seen a desert on a forest planet. In any case, I really like it.

I found a misshapen naked ape in a cage with a hay pile next to him. He was hostile when I opened the cage so I sadly had to put him down. I used my apex ingenuity to study the effects of bullets on his glitch captors. Results aren't worth expanding upon

I recently just skimmed a desert world with large stretches of ice and snow. Pleasant change-up
Guns feel much better now, which is nice because at least so far the x sector mobs hit like absolute trucks and the further I can be from them the better.
I had a desert world that had a layer of ice beneath the sand... Beneath that.. FLESH?! As if the planet were some terrible living organism that had been frozen and then covered by time... Then I found magma. Always... Magma.

Id love a planet sized boss requiring you to dodge creatures and natural hazards like moving spikes and such while you dig to the bottom and set off some weapon to destroy it

What changed? all my guns still do crap damage compared to melee weapons.

You'd probably need to buy new ones, they seem more energy efficient but I don't think the exact details of the rebalance were posted.
I was going to start building baseworld since I have full T10 armor now ... but I think capturing a bubble breath or fire breath monster and levelling it up (preferably one that looks like a tiny bunny) might be my new thing to do.

At some point I just gave up on ship organization and just decided to fill every possible space with junk
Some friends and I played on the PA server today and had lots of fun!
We made a tower (it even has a bell!)
Not pictured here: the bell
We explored some caves!
I played my trumpet the whole time. Didn't strike the earth even once.
We dug deep.
Well, I didn't.
Then we did some other things!
wait whered the other guy go
And before we all logged for the night, we flew off into the stars!
We don't actually recommend this method of travel. You'll be leaving the other player's ships behind!
We will never again see that beautiful tower, or that weird tree, or the obsidian bunker, or the pufflerms (don't ask). But tomorrow we will strike out again into the unknown.
