I haven't played any of the games since MGS2, but yeah, it's pretty shitty if they just quietly made the game without him and never addressed the fact that he wasn't going to voice Snake/Big Boss anymore.

I don't understand how it's shitty not to ask a VA to voice a character that logically would be voiced by the VA that already voiced the older version of.

Older Big Boss has a different VA already. They shouldn't ask Hayter to do it if it doesn't fit the game.

Yeah but Hayter has voiced Big Boss in 3 games and this is the 4th game where you play as Big Boss. The only instance where he was voiced by someone else was in a game where Hayter was already voicing the protagonist Snake, and where he was considerably older (MGS5 logically has to take place in the 80s to early 90s at the latest).

By the way, for those keeping count at home:
Number of canonical Metal Gear games where you have played as each of those characters:
Solid Snake: 5
Big Boss: 4
Raiden: 2

One more Big Boss game and he'll tie Original Recipe Snake in number of playable appearances (and that's generously counting the original two MSX titles).

But he is older in this game than in the other BB games. So maybe they wanted to switch over to the older voice.

Like I get wanting to hear Hayter in the role guys but not bringing him in isn't some automatic dick move slight against him.

We've known about a new Metal Gear game with Big Boss for a long time now.

This shouldn't exactly be new information for him seeing as how he hadn't been brought in for that.

A tweet after that tweet, he replied to somebody who asked if they even asked him to do a voice for the game, simply with "Nope."

Plus months ago he asked how fans would feel if he wasn't doing a voice in the next MGS game. This wasn't exactly a shocking development, sadly.
